Chapter 31 Going Home

"Do you have a lot of stuff? Should I help you?" Old Du took Wei Ping's things.

Song Yan had to handle things herself, so she quickly declined Lao Du's offer.

Song Yan went back and forth twice, carrying things like balls, teacups, toothbrushes, and cloths. She also brought out two baskets of eggs. A hen can lay several eggs a day, and in just a few days, she had accumulated several hundred.

It was already noon and the brigade leader still hadn't come out. Old Du took out a cornbread from his pocket. "I brought this for lunch."

"I have some good food, you can keep this!" Song Yan pulled several white steamed buns from the basket—actually, from his spatial storage. "Eat up!"

These are white steamed buns! Old Du hesitated and didn't dare to reach for them. Song Yan simply stuffed two large buns into his hands and then sat down to feed Wei Ping water.

Old Du simply started eating heartily. He'd eaten quite a bit of Song Yan's food these past few days, so one more bun wouldn't make a difference.

A moment later, Captain Wu arrived and paused, looking at the steamed buns in their hands. Old Du felt embarrassed. They were all eating buns, and it wouldn't be good to leave the captain out. But he had already taken a bite of the second bun; he couldn't give it to the captain. Old Du stammered, unsure what to say.

The captain asked Wei Ping about his illness with concern, then casually sat down and took out a flatbread from his pocket.

Song Yan thought the village head was a good person. He was doing things for the village, but he brought his own food. Song Yan took out two more steamed buns and handed them to the village head. "Our bedmate is really kind. She was worried we wouldn't have anything to eat when we got back, so she brought us a lot of food."

"White flour is rare, let's save it for the children." The brigade leader thought to himself, "Are the people in the county so rich? They can just give away white steamed buns like that."

Without saying a word, Song Yan shoved the steamed bun into the brigade leader's hand. The aroma was so enticing that the brigade leader couldn't resist taking a big bite…

After the meal, everyone enjoyed some sweet cantaloupe...

The team leader had to go to the power bureau to keep watch that afternoon. Wei Ping told Lao Du to keep an eye on things while Song Yan went to do his own thing.
