Chapter 585 The Legend of Sword and Fairy Sets Sail (9,000-word update!)
Whether Yan Lingyu can play the role of Ling'er in "Chinese Paladin" is secondary. What Lu Yanhe wants to know more is what happened to Yan Lingyu that made her suddenly want to give up her acting career.
In fact, since the release of "Late Spring," Lu Yanhe hasn't had much contact with the film's actors. Apart from Wang Jing, who acted in "Squid Game" and was later chosen by Lu Yanhe to act alongside Jiang Yuqian in "Telephone," the other actors only maintained contact during holidays, exchanging a few words of greeting.
On the one hand, they didn't usually interact much. On the other hand, when they were filming this movie, Lu Yanhe didn't have much personal interaction with them. At that time, Lu Yanhe was already famous and had a higher status in the crew than Liu Bige. The other actors were all newcomers, and it was already difficult for them not to be nervous or reserved in front of Lu Yanhe, let alone develop a good personal relationship with him.
From a normal interpersonal perspective, they all got to know each other because of this movie, and they had each other's contact information. Compared to ordinary friends, they were more familiar with each other.
Lu Yanhe immediately contacted Wang Jing to see if she knew anything about Yan Lingyu's situation.
Upon hearing his question, Wang Jing explained, "Ling Yu acted in two movies afterward, both of which were heavily criticized. She lost confidence in acting and refused to take on any more roles."
Lu Yanhe was unaware of the details surrounding Yan Lingyu's two subsequent films. He didn't even recall them existing. Perhaps he was too busy at the time and hadn't paid attention.
Yan Lingyu's main conflict with her agency stemmed from these two films. Both films were secured for her by her agency. After the release of "Late Spring," Yan Lingyu was already established and receiving considerable attention within the industry. Newcomers are particularly reliant on their starting point, and Yan Lingyu's starting point can be described as one of the highest in Chinese film history, to the point that even slightly less impressive acting skills weren't criticized.
No one has high expectations for a newcomer's acting skills. Being able to stay focused and having such a captivating face is enough for the industry to allow her to hone her skills and grow gradually.
It was under these circumstances that Yan Lingyu was cast in her next two films by her agency. Neither film was a serious production; one was a brutal coming-of-age love story, and the other was a big-budget fantasy production. Both films flopped at the box office and were met with fierce criticism from audiences. As the female lead, Yan Lingyu naturally became the target of all the criticism.
The criticism lasted for almost half a year, and then Yan Lingyu became withdrawn and refused to act anymore.
"About six months ago, I heard that she was going to terminate her contract with her agency, but I don't know how it went, and there hasn't been any new news since," Wang Jing said. "Should I go and ask her about it?"
Lu Yanhe thought for a moment and said, "Could you ask for me?"
“Okay,” Wang Jing agreed, then added, “Actually, she called me before and asked for my opinion.”
"What opinion?" Lu Yanhe asked, somewhat puzzled.
"Could I ask you for help?" Wang Jing said. "She probably didn't go to you in the end, right?"
"No, after the movie promotion ended, we just liked each other's posts on WeChat Moments and exchanged a few greetings during holidays."
"Sure enough, she was afraid of bothering you or causing you trouble," Wang Jing said. "At that time, she wanted to terminate her contract with the company. I told her that when I signed with the company, I listened to your advice, so I waited a year before signing with Aurora Video after the release of 'Late Spring.' I guess she still felt that her matter was too troublesome, so she was too embarrassed to ask you."
"So, it's possible that she doesn't want to act anymore, but her current contract restricts her from taking on roles?" Lu Yanhe asked.
"Maybe so. But it's possible that Lingyu really didn't want to act anymore. During the time when she was being criticized by a lot of people, she was really devastated. Qingqing and I both went to be with her. She was in a bad mood, and I was afraid she would become depressed."
Wang Jing sighed.
"Most importantly, I heard from Kong Fan that she was quite envied and ostracized at school. The competition at Beijing Art Academy is already very fierce, and the relationships between girls are even more delicate. If it weren't for the incident with those two movies, she might have had a group of people flattering her with the halo of being the female lead in 'Late Spring.' But after she was scolded, she was basically shunned. Kong Fan is a boy and has a girlfriend, so it wasn't convenient for him to help her. So Qingqing and I would go to Beijing Art Academy to see her from time to time, or ask her out."
Lu Yanhe really knew nothing about these things.
This made him inexplicably feel down.
Although Lu Yanhe and Yan Lingyu didn't have any personal relationship after filming, they were still actors who had worked together and got along quite well during filming. However, he didn't even hear about what happened to Yan Lingyu afterwards.
Lu Yanhe told Wang Biao about this matter and asked Wang Biao to help him investigate Yan Lingyu and her current agency to find out what was going on.
Wang Biao has quite a wide network of connections in the entertainment industry, and he quickly found out some basic information. After "Late Spring," Yan Lingyu signed with Fengxiangbiao. Fengxiangbiao is also a large and powerful company, and they even released a press release when they signed Yan Lingyu.
“Yan Lingyu’s agent is Du Weixian. There are indeed rumors that Yan Lingyu and Du Weixian had a bad falling out last year. There was a program that was originally scheduled for Yan Lingyu to appear on, but at the last minute, someone else was replaced, supposedly because Yan Lingyu refused to come,” Wang Biao said. “It is said that Du Weixian accepted the program without Yan Lingyu’s consent, and at that time, she had already broken up with Du Weixian.”
Lu Yanhe sighed.
"Yan Lingyu hasn't taken on any work for over a year, and many people in the industry think she's been sidelined by the industry's political climate."
"How long was her contract with the trendsetter?"
"Eight years, there are still five years left."
Lu Yanhe: "..."
-
Lu Yanhe told Luo Yuzhong everything.
"Yan Lingyu may not be able to act in 'Chinese Paladin' for the time being."
Upon hearing this, Luo Yuzhong frowned deeply.
He's a veteran in the industry, and he knows a lot more about these things than Lu Yanhe does.
Over the years, I've witnessed countless similar incidents.
He asked, "Have you spoken with Yan Lingyu?"
"Not yet," Lu Yanhe said. "I'm planning to go see her directly. Last time I called her, she didn't say anything, only that she didn't want to act anymore. If I don't talk to her in person, she probably won't tell me the truth—Wang Jing has already looked into the situation for me. In any case, her first drama was filmed with me, so I'll see how I can help her. But this matter involves her conflict with her agency, and our drama is about to start filming, so I guess I won't be able to make it."
Luo Yuzhong noticed the genuine concern on Lu Yanhe's face, nodded, and said, "I'll go and talk to Fengxiangbiao Company. As for Yan Lingyu, you talk to her and see what she really thinks. With such good looks and acting experience, it's a real pity that she gave up acting so early."
Lu Yanhe was surprised that Luo Yuzhong would take the initiative to communicate with Fengxiangbiao Company. Did he really admire Yan Lingyu that much?
However, to be fair, Yan Lingyu's looks are indeed top-tier even within the entertainment industry. She's not just an ordinary beauty; her features are incredibly expressive and tell a story, coupled with her naturally aloof and reserved demeanor, making her unforgettable in "Late Spring." While she may not be a carbon copy of Liu Yifei, her overall aura is truly unique.
Perhaps the more actors a director like Luo Yuzhong has seen, the more he understands what kind of face is precious.
-
"The director may have decided that Yan Lingyu should play the role of Ling'er."
When asked about this, Chen Siqi shared her guess.
“In the story of ‘Chinese Paladin,’ the character Ling’er is quite important. You could say she is the foundation of the story. Although you wrote the story entirely according to Li Xiaoyao’s growth trajectory, Ling’er occupies the most crucial position in Li Xiaoyao’s growth trajectory,” Chen Siqi said. “Li Xiaoyao is the real part, while Ling’er is the illusory part, more spiritual, pure, like a beautiful being that could not truly exist in the world. If this character cannot stand up, the whole story will be compromised.”
Chen Siqi's words shocked Lu Yanhe.
Of course he knew how important the character Ling'er was to "Chinese Paladin". When the show became popular, it was a male-centric drama, but the character Ling'er almost rivaled Li Xiaoyao. This was because the character's design was too perfect. It was almost the most perfect character design ever seen in film and television. Both boys and girls liked it.
Before the drama was released, Chen Siqi clearly understood the importance of the character Ling'er to "Chinese Paladin" just by reading the script. It was not just about her importance as a female lead. Lu Yanhe increasingly felt how accurate Chen Siqi's judgment and vision were in judging a drama.
No wonder Chen Siqi can always find the most suitable publicity and marketing methods for a drama. Someone who doesn't truly understand dramas can't figure out what the most appropriate method is.
Lu Yanhe said, "I still haven't figured out how to tell Yan Lingyu about this."
Chen Siqi thought for a moment and said, "I think you should first find out if she is still willing to act. That's the most important thing. If she has no desire at all, even if you solve the problem with her agency, it won't help. You need to find other actors as soon as possible."
"Okay." Lu Yanhe nodded. "I've already made plans with her to have lunch together near her house tomorrow. Why don't you come with me? I'm not very familiar with her, and it would be a bit awkward if it were just the two of us."
Chen Siqi said, "I have no problem going with you, but I don't know her. It might make it harder for her to express her thoughts. Didn't Wang Jing say that she wanted to ask you for help before, but she didn't in the end because she was afraid of troubling you?"
"Too."
Chen Siqi: "You should just talk to her frankly. First, the role in 'Chinese Paladin' is indeed suitable for her. Second, putting 'Chinese Paladin' aside, you two have worked together before and have that kind of connection. It wouldn't be right to turn a blind eye to helping her in this way. Tell her not to be so closed off. Put yourself in her shoes. Actually, if I were her, I would definitely need your help right now, but I would be too embarrassed to ask. Her time in the entertainment industry is limited, and you are probably the most capable person she knows who can help her solve this problem."
Lu Yanhe nodded.
-
Yan Lingyu still looks the same as when she was filming before, as if nothing has changed.
She came alone, without bodyguards or assistants, and wore only light makeup. She didn't look like a female celebrity; she looked more like a college student.
Lu Yanhe praised, "Still so beautiful."
Yan Lingyu smiled, lowered her head, waved her hand, and said, "I'm so sorry, Yan He, thank you for remembering me in your drama, but I may really not be suited to be an actor."
Lu Yanhe was taken aback.
Before they even started exchanging pleasantries, Yan Lingyu immediately got straight to the point.
This left him somewhat bewildered.
“It’s alright, let’s sit down,” Lu Yanhe said. “I was shocked when I suddenly heard you say you didn’t want to act anymore. I asked Wang Jing and that’s how I found out what happened to you after you filmed ‘Late Spring’.”
Yan Lingyu's smile had a hint of desolation in it.
"It's very embarrassing."
“How could that be? It doesn’t really have much to do with you,” Lu Yanhe said firmly. “It’s because the director didn’t find your strengths and film them. Look at how well you performed in ‘Late Spring,’ you amazed everyone.”
The light in Yan Lingyu's eyes was dim, and even these words did not seem to move her much.
"Besides, I've also heard about what's going on between you and your company." Lu Yanhe changed the subject, saying, "Lingyu, you said you don't want to act anymore. Is it because you really don't want to act anymore, or is it because of your agency?"
Yan Lingyu stared blankly at Lu Yanhe.
“Although we don’t contact each other often, you can come to us if you need any help, even if I can’t always be there to help,” Lu Yanhe said very seriously. “Besides wanting to understand your thoughts on acting, I also want to ask you in person what your current situation is with your agency, and what I can do to help you.”
Yan Lingyu's eyes reddened instantly.
It's no exaggeration.
Even movie special effects might not be as fast as her speed in that instant.
Human emotions can sometimes arrive suddenly, like thunder or a downpour, without warning.
-
After Yan Lingyu calmed down, Lu Yanhe began to recount what had happened between her and her agency. He breathed a sigh of relief when he heard the end of the story.
The conflict between Yan Lingyu and her agency is neither a major issue nor a minor one.
To put it bluntly, it's simply that the two movies Yan Lingyu took on according to the company's requirements received very negative feedback, which severely impacted her. As a result, she began to question the roles the company assigned to her and refused to cooperate with the work the company arranged for her anymore.
The weather vane didn't realize that Yan Lingyu was actually just hurt by the previous outcome, and that if they comforted and persuaded her, she would be fine.
They saw Yan Lingyu as a disobedient actor and were determined to teach him a lesson.
As a result, Yan Lingyu, who was already being criticized for his performance in the film, was surrounded by negative comments almost constantly due to the online attacks arranged by the company.
The company even instructed everyone, from top to bottom, to ignore Yan Lingyu and give her the cold shoulder.
Yan Lingyu's mood and state of mind completely collapsed under these circumstances. By the time she realized that the company was behind all of this, she had already mentally broken down countless times. Even if she understood the reason for the coldness and hostility from her surroundings, she had no power to fight against the company.
Yan Lingyu was left feeling powerless and disheartened after being "taught a lesson." She considered asking Lu Yanhe and Liu Bige for help, but she knew that even they couldn't do much to help with her agency contract. She requested to terminate her contract with the company, which immediately demanded a termination fee of 30 million.
Since she entered this industry, she has never seen even three million, let alone thirty million.
A huge mountain was pressing down on her, and she had no way to get over it.
So, in a fit of despair, she decided to quit being an entertainer and stop acting.
-
"Actually, it's not a big deal. If she could just soften her stance, lower her head, and tell the truth, we wouldn't have ignored her for so long. When we signed her, we invested a lot of resources in her. If she doesn't work, we're the ones who lose out. This young lady is arrogant and doesn't listen to instructions. We've already arranged shows for her, she's a regular guest on popular variety shows. We spent so much effort negotiating with her, and she just says she won't go."
Luo Yuzhong sat in the office of the owner of Fengxiangbiao Brokerage Company, listening to another man's complaints and rants.
Yan Lingyu's agent is Du Weixian.
"It's an honor for her that you chose her and cast her in a film," Du Weixian said with a smile. "However, she does have a rather stubborn temper. Director, she's not answering my calls anymore. Actually, I have a newcomer on my team, a newly signed actress. Her looks are just as good as Yan Lingyu's. Would you like to meet her?"
Luo Yuzhong: "As you can see, there are still some roles in this drama that haven't been cast yet, but my top choice for the female lead is Yan Lingyu. Mr. Chen, if you're willing to give me that favor and let her act in my drama, it shouldn't be a bad deal for you. This drama is a fantasy drama starring Lu Yanhe, Li Zhibai, and Yan Liang. I don't need to say how much attention the female lead will receive. After this drama airs, you can discuss the internal affairs between Yan Lingyu and your company yourselves. What do you think?"
Du Weixian wanted to say something more.
Mr. Chen glanced at him sideways, and Du Wei immediately shut his mouth.
Mr. Chen smiled slightly at Luo Yuzhong and said, "Director, it is an honor for Yan Lingyu that you have chosen her, and it is also an honor for us. Don't worry, we will definitely send Yan Lingyu to the crew before filming begins."
Luo Yuzhong nodded, "Then thank you very much, President Chen. It's perfectly normal for young people to have tempers and throw tantrums. I think Yan Lingyu will definitely grow from this experience. We, as elders, should be more tolerant and less resentful. When they grow up, they will naturally be able to understand our feelings."
Mr. Chen nodded.
"We'll organize another round of auditions later. There are still quite a few roles in this drama that haven't been cast yet. We'd appreciate it if Mr. Chen could send some promising actors to audition so we can have more options," Luo Yuzhong said with a smile.
"For Director Luo's films, we'll let our actors audition as long as they have the time," General Manager Chen said with a smile. "Please give us your guidance. It doesn't matter whether they get the role or not; just giving them pointers will benefit them enough."
After exchanging pleasantries, the two settled the matter. President Chen personally escorted Luo Yuzhong to the elevator. Once Luo Yuzhong was off, President Chen turned to Du Weixian and asked, "What exactly is the situation with Yan Lingyu? When was she blacklisted by us? Isn't she the female lead in 'Late Spring'?"
Du Weixian's expression changed slightly. He opened his mouth, wanting to explain, but President Chen didn't seem to want to listen to him.
"Go and invite President Wen to my office."
Mr. Wen, also known as Wen Ken, is the vice president of Fengxiangbiao Company, responsible for coordinating artist management.
This time, Du Weixian's expression didn't just change slightly, but changed completely.
-
"Buzz." The phone vibrated.
After having dinner with Lu Yanhe, Yan Lingyu returned to her apartment and picked up her phone.
The message on my phone was from Lu Yanhe: Director Luo has already talked to your company boss. They will give you a new agent and support your role in "Chinese Paladin". How well you handle your relationship with your company afterwards depends on you. But no matter how you choose to handle it, the stronger you are, the more choices you will have. I still hope you can seriously consider the drama "Chinese Paladin". If you act in it, it may completely change your current situation.
Yan Lingyu sat on the sofa, looking at the message on her phone screen. She read it countless times, remaining silent and hesitant for a long time.
At the restaurant, Lu Yanhe told her that it was common for artists to be bullied and exploited by their management companies. He understood her current lack of confidence and self-deprecation, but this was not a problem with her acting skills. It was a problem of whether she should stand up and bear the pressure when she was being suppressed in her life.
Lu Yanhe's words were like a stone mill, grinding back and forth in her heart.
Yan Lingyu still lacks confidence, partly because she hasn't worked or acted for over a year, spending almost all her time alone at home, and has lost sensitivity to the outside world.
acting?
At that moment, Yan Lingyu suddenly covered her face and couldn't help but burst into tears.
-
"Yan Lingyu is actually not a very confident person."
Wang Jing sat cross-legged in front of the coffee table, with Kong Fan beside her.
Lu Yanhe specially invited the two of them to Ziyuan Bridge for hot pot tonight—it was also because of Yan Lingyu's incident that he realized he hadn't been in touch with his friends from the "Late Spring" crew for too long.
I had also made plans with He Qingqing, but she was filming on set and had to be absent.
Lu Yanhe was surprised and asked, "With a face like that, she's still not confident?"
“She was very beautiful since she was a child, so her mother always suppressed her and said that she had no other merits besides being good-looking, and that she was useless.” Wang Jing sighed. “So she has always been quite insecure. When she was with us, she didn’t talk much. At first, I thought she was aloof and didn’t like to talk to us.”
Kong Fan: "She does give people that impression at school. Everyone says she's as proud as a swan, which is why no one dares to approach her. Girls aside, even the boys at our school think she's a high-and-mighty flower, and no one dares to get close to her."
Lu Yanhe was actually quite surprised by what Kong Fan and Wang Jing said.
This completely shattered Lu Yanhe's impression of Yan Lingyu.
However, putting what these two people said together with Yan Lingyu doesn't seem out of place. Because Yan Lingyu is indeed like that usually, just interpreted differently.
"I still hope she can resolve her conflict with the company properly," Wang Jing said, resting her chin on her hand.
At that moment, Chen Siqi returned.
Hearing the noise at the door, Lu Yanhe got up in surprise.
"Why are you back now? Didn't you say you had dinner plans with someone?"
"I had a dinner appointment with someone, so I came back to change my clothes first," Chen Siqi said. "I drank coffee during the day and accidentally spilled it on myself, and the stain is too obvious."
Lu Yanhe then noticed a darker mark on Chen Siqi's waist—but because she was wearing a dark blue shirt today, it wouldn't be noticeable unless you looked closely.
Chen Siqi first greeted Wang Jing and Kong Fan.
"Sorry, I had work scheduled in advance, so I couldn't have hot pot with you guys. Ah, I really wanted to eat hot pot—"
Her eyes lit up as she looked at the hot pot. She waved to Wang Jing and Kong Fan, "I have to go inside and change my clothes, or I'll be late. You guys enjoy your meal."
Chen Siqi changed her clothes in just five minutes, and said goodbye to Wang Jing and Kong Fan with a smile and proper demeanor before leaving.
Although the whole process was quite whirlwind, it gave people a feeling of being well taken care of.
"I'll take her downstairs for a bit. You guys eat first, I'll be right back up."
Lu Yanhe escorted Chen Siqi downstairs.
Wang Jing and Kong Fan looked at each other in bewilderment.
The hot pot was bubbling away between the two of them.
After a long pause, Wang Jing finally said, "Aren't they being a little too sweet? It makes me want to fall in love."
Kong Fan smiled.
"Then go find someone you like. Haven't you met anyone you like yet?"
"I did manage to meet someone, but I always felt that dating would affect my work. The two people I dated before both complained that I was too busy with work and didn't have time to go on dates with them, so I gave up."
"Why don't you work a little less hard? Actually, I find it strange that your ambition is the strongest I've ever seen."
"Are Lu Yanhe and Chen Siqi less ambitious? How come they can achieve such a perfect combination of success in both career and love? I want to achieve both too." Wang Jing pouted. "Sigh, if Ling Yu had half of Chen Siqi's personality, she wouldn't have been driven to such a breakdown."
Kong Fan: "She signed with the agency too early. If she had waited until 'Late Spring' was released before signing with the agency like you did, the contract terms would have been much better."
“I have to thank Lu Yanhe for this. He advised me not to rush into signing the contract. After the film was released, things were completely different,” Wang Jing said. “Even though Ling Yu was the female lead and received the most attention in ‘Late Spring,’ I was the one who benefited the most because my contract with Aurora Studios promised to give me a leading role in a film every year.”
Kong Fan: "From the very beginning, Ling Yu felt that she had been misled by the weather vane. After she realized that the contract she received was so bad, she had a falling out with her agent. As you know, the two movies that her agent arranged for her were ones she didn't want to act in from the beginning, but her agent insisted on making her act in them, and in the end, it backfired, and their relationship completely broke down."
Wang Jing: "Fortunately, Yan He helped her coordinate this time."
“Actually, Yan He is a really nice person. I regret that I didn’t keep in touch with him much before because I was afraid of bothering him.” Kong Fan suddenly thought of something, smiled, and said, “Actually, I was quite surprised when I received his call today. I wondered what had happened.”
Wang Jing: "Who told you to think so much? You've been filming with him for so long. Others may not know, but don't you know what kind of person he is in private? Anyway, I basically ask for his opinion whenever there's something. He's experienced far more than us. With his opinion, we can avoid so many detours."
“You’ve worked with him so many times, of course you can ask him.”
“Didn’t I only work with him once, just like you guys? Besides, you were the closest to him when we were filming, but you were too timid to bother him. Who’s to blame?” Wang Jing said. “Why should you be afraid of bothering him or taking advantage of him? You’ll become better and more famous, and you can help him too. When he was making his Jumping Theater, no actors were willing to act in these experimental short plays at first, so we went and acted in them.”
Kong Fan laughed, "I wish I had your mindset."
“I’d be surprised if you didn’t have that mindset,” Wang Jing said. “Do you really expect Yan He to take the initiative to care about what you need?”
“No, I never expected him to help me in any special way.” Kong Fan sighed. “Not everyone can be as casual as you.”
"Whatever?" Wang Jing immediately rolled her eyes. "Are you implying something?"
"No, that's not what I meant." Kong Fan immediately realized that he had said the wrong thing. "What I meant was that it's determined by personality. You are very generous and able to express your own thoughts, but neither I nor Yan Lingyu are actually like that. It's not that we don't want to, it's that we can't."
The two men looked at each other in bewilderment.
The hot pot was still bubbling away among them.
-
When Yan Lingyu was finally confirmed to play the role of Ling'er, Lu Yanhe thought he could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
To Lu Yanhe's surprise, besides Ling'er, Luo Yuzhong also had his eye on another very important female character, Lin Yueru.
Xiao Yun.
However, before Lu Yanhe could say anything, Luo Yuzhong rejected the idea himself.
Firstly, given Xiao Yun's current popularity and status, there's no need for her to play the second female lead in a male-centric fantasy drama. Secondly, "Chinese Paladin" doesn't have an extra budget to pay Xiao Yun's salary.
Given Xiao Yun's current market salary, even if she only asks for a "friendship price," it would still easily be close to ten million.
Luo Yuzhong then instructed the casting director to find actresses who resembled Xiao Yun.
As for the other important role, Anu, Luo Yuzhong finally had no suitable candidate and decided to find the actress through auditions.
This was the first time Lu Yanhe had seen Luo Yuzhong prepare for a drama and how he selected the actors.
For some roles, Luo Yuzhong already has a suitable actor in mind, while for others, he doesn't have a suitable actor in mind yet. For the latter, the casting director needs to search for actors who meet the basic requirements and then invite them to audition.
Back then, Luo Yuzhong organized a special audition at Star Entertainment specifically for a minor role in the drama "The Golden Era," which shows how high his standards were for actors.
Lu Yanhe also discovered that almost all good directors attach great importance to casting.
They even valued it so much that Lu Yanhe felt it was excessive.
Luo Yuzhong clearly already had a picture in his mind of what kind of actor should play each role. Many actors that Lu Yanhe thought were quite suitable after watching the videos were all marked off by Luo Yuzhong without hesitation.
He already knew exactly what kind of film "Chinese Paladin" would look like.
-
Aurora Video also showcased their latest production management system, which will be used for the filming of "Chinese Paladin".
Previously, filming a production required countless group chats, phone calls, and on-site meetings, involving the cooperation of various departments and roles. This process was time-consuming, labor-intensive, and prone to errors. The production management system developed by Aurora Video can gather real-time information on various aspects, including shooting footage, funding usage, shooting progress, crew props, and scene updates. Each department can directly view its own progress within this system.
Furthermore, for green screen scenes like those in "Chinese Paladin," which rely heavily on special effects, it provides real-time virtual scene technology. This allows the on-set footage to directly present a rough estimate of the effect combined with the special effects, thus determining whether the footage is usable. If not, it can be reshot immediately.
In the past, such problems might only be discovered in the editing room. Reshooting at that point would either be time-consuming and laborious, or simply impossible, requiring other technical solutions that would affect the final quality of the film.
Actors can also see on set how their performances, which they are acting out, are presented on screen, making it easier for directors and actors to make adjustments and avoiding the bad effect of the actors' performances not being in sync with the special effects production in post-production.
Luo Yuzhong was very interested in the production management system provided by Aurora Borealis and had been studying it, occasionally exchanging ideas with Lu Yanhe.
Lu Yanhe also learned about the most advanced system for film and television production in China.
This completely changed the way traditional film crews shoot.
He could foresee that when such a production management system was promoted throughout the industry, the entire production process would undergo a major transformation.
However, this won't happen in the short term, because this is a system developed by Aurora Video itself and is not authorized for public release.
Luo Yuzhong said, "Xiaohe, let's talk to the Northern Lights again and at least ask them to share this technology with us. How much time and resources can we save on filming with such a system?"
Lu Yanhe was both amused and exasperated.
“I’ll have to talk to them about it, but I don’t know if they’ll agree,” he said.
Luo Yuzhong said, "This thing is really good. It can even simulate the shooting effect directly through the design of the shooting scene and camera movement in the early stage. It allows me to see the basic effect of different shooting schemes in this system. On-site lighting and camera movement can all be simulated in this system to find the best options."
Luo Yuzhong became more and more excited as he spoke.
Lu Yanhe said, "Okay, teacher, let's talk to them together later and ask them to authorize us to use this production management system, even if we have to pay a usage fee."
Luo Yuzhong nodded in satisfaction.
“When you come back from the Jose Film Festival, we’ll talk to Aurora Borealis about this, and then we’ll start the auditions,” Luo Yuzhong said. “Before that, I’ll take the art team to scout out the locations and see which scenes we can film on location.”
"good."
Directors like Luo Yuzhong, while embracing current special effects technology, still prefer to shoot on location whenever possible. This is a habit formed by their generation of directors, and also their fundamental aesthetic values.
No matter how good the special effects produced by computers are, there will always be some degree of distortion.
Lu Yanhe naturally supported his teacher's idea.
The fact that his teacher was willing to direct the show means that it's already halfway to success.
