Today, with immense joy, we gather on this land brimming with vitality and hope to witness a momentous occasion—the official launch of the unveiling ceremony for the Happiness River monument in Meilin Village!

First of all, please allow me, on behalf of the Party Committee and Government of Zhongxin Town, to extend my warmest welcome and heartfelt thanks to County Head Yun and all the leaders who have taken time out of their busy schedules to come to the site to provide guidance!

We extend our sincerest respect and heartfelt gratitude to all levels of government departments and construction units that have long cared for and supported the development of Meilin Village, to the builders who have worked tirelessly on the Heishui River dredging project, and to all the villagers who actively cooperated and participated in the project!

Li Xiuyuan continued, “Speaking of this river, I believe the villagers of Meilin Village are all familiar with it. This river was originally called Baishijian, named for its cold and clear water. However, due to coal mine pollution and silt accumulation, the river water turned black and smelled bad, and the flow rate continued to decline. Our Meilin Village also suffered greatly from this. In the summer, you can smell the pungent stench without even going to the riverbank.”

This not only affected the village's appearance but also hindered farmland irrigation, causing numerous inconveniences to everyone's production and daily life. Improving the river environment and restoring the river's clarity has been the long-cherished wish of the entire village and a key livelihood issue for our central town.

Li Xiuyuan took a deep breath, his voice suddenly rising a few decibels, and began to change direction: "What the people hope for is what the government strives for. Under the guidance of national policies, and after research and decision by the county party committee and county government, Meilin Village was designated as a model village for rural revitalization and new rural construction. Following planning, the dredging project of the Heishui River in Meilin Village became the first phase of the new rural demonstration village construction project."

Under the careful planning and meticulous deployment of the county government, the entire town and village worked together to overcome difficulties such as tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and challenging operations. Over two months, they invested manpower and resources to construct supporting facilities such as ecological riverbank protection and garbage collection points.

Today, the former "Black Water River" has been transformed: the water is crystal clear, and the banks are lush with vegetation..."

"In order to commemorate this benefit to the people and to express the villagers' aspirations for a better life, the villagers' representative assembly proposed and the county government decided to officially rename this reborn river as the Happiness River."

The word "happiness" embodies the deep care of the county party committee and government for the grassroots people, the original aspiration and mission of the town party committee and government to do practical things for the people, and is a vivid portrayal of how our Meilin Village has achieved ecological improvement and improved quality of life through the construction of a new rural area.

It is not only an ecological river and an irrigation river, but also a river of happiness and hope that connects the hearts of the Party and the people!
