Oda was still investigating the suspicious activity on the small kayak and didn't understand the meaning behind Fujino's question. Moreover, Fujino's face was always turned towards the kayak, and he didn't even glance at him.
Oda was displeased; Fujino clearly didn't take him seriously. Before he could reply, the kayak had already sped away.
It drifted away in an unpredictable direction.
Oda gave a mocking laugh. "Fujino-kun, aren't you being too tense? Don't worry, the Chinese warships are now a certain distance away from us. Their cannons can barely reach our fishing boats. What are you still so nervous about?"
Fujino stared blankly. Could that kayak have drifted that fast without anyone controlling it? That speed was simply impossible!
Just as Fujino was about to explain to Oda what he had just seen, a Japanese man ran over excitedly, "Reporting, sir, there appear to be three American warships heading this way."
The sea breeze howled, and the waves gently lapped against the hull, making a rhythmic sound. Upon hearing the report, Fujino and Oda immediately ran to the bow. Standing on the deck, they looked at the distant black dot, their eyes shining with excitement.
With American aid on the horizon, their fear instantly turned into joy.
"They've finally arrived!" Oda's voice trembled slightly, and a smug smile appeared on his face. "This time, we're going to teach those Chinese a lesson!"
Fujino frowned, a hint of disapproval in his eyes. "Oda-kun, our mission is to safely transport the treasure back to the country. We shouldn't cause any unforeseen complications right now."
Oda glanced at Fujino disdainfully. "Fujino-kun, you're too cowardly. How can we let those Chinese people get away with provoking us like this?"
Don't worry, we just saw it, didn't we? They only had one fishing boat. The American warship was very fast. We caught up with them and fired two shots, and the Chinese warship sank.
Haha, let's see how arrogant those Chinese people will be then.
Fujino's expression was grim. "Oda-kun, our primary mission is to protect the treasure, not to clash with Chinese warships." If anything unexpected happens along the way, Oda-kun, can you bear the responsibility? Fujino's question carried a hint of aggressiveness.
The two men disagreed, and the atmosphere on the ship instantly became tense. Just then, the silhouettes of the American warships grew larger and larger, moving at an incredible speed, like cheetahs in the sea, rapidly approaching them.
"Hmph! Fujino-kun, I think the United States will support my actions!" Oda-kun was no longer concerned with opposing Fujino-kun at this point; his eyes were filled with the excitement of battle.
Fujino's expression grew even more grim. When he saw Oda take charge of the mission, he had a premonition that the operation might not go so smoothly.
Unexpectedly, their fishing boat had already been stopped by Chinese warships, yet this guy showed absolutely no sense of danger. It's truly baffling why the Empire would send such a brainless idiot.
As the US warship approached, the Japanese side raised their flag. Both sides quickly exchanged signals on the deck, confirming each other's identities. The commander of the US warship was a burly man in his twenties, with a cunning glint in his eyes.
"Hey, our orders are to cross the border as soon as possible. Are you ready? Or do you have any unfulfilled wishes?" Albert, the head of the US naval vessel, spoke with a hint of amusement, his eyes filled with disdain as he looked at Fujino and Oda.
If it weren't for the treasures the Japanese found, why would a dignified U.S. colonel come to rescue such weaklings?
And as the officer had predicted, they had indeed fallen into a Chinese ambush, and their three fishing boats ran aground at sea.
“Ah, I really feel like I’ve become a savior of suffering. I’m proud of what I’ve done.” Albert’s heartfelt monologue made Oda and Fujino extremely uncomfortable.
However, since they were partners and needed Albert's help at the moment, they wisely refrained from saying anything that would displease Albert.
Oda nodded somewhat obsequiously, "Mr. Albert, we are ready and can depart at any time."
Albert's gaze swept over the three fishing boats, a greedy glint in his eyes. "Very well, since your fishing boats are immobile, we will tow these three fishing boats across the Chinese border quickly."
Please don't be angry; after all, you all know how troublesome Chinese warships are. For the sake of…”
A sinister smile crept across Oda's face. "Albert, I think we need to teach those Chinese warships a lesson before we leave. There's a lone Chinese warship at sea not far from our fishing boat; they just damaged ours."
They must have known you were coming, which is why they ran away.
I think they are now less than ten nautical miles away from us.
A hint of amusement flashed in Albert's eyes. "Oh? What's Oda-kun's plan?"
A sly glint flashed in Oda's eyes. "Our US warships can catch up with them instantly and then give them a lesson they'll never forget."
"No, Oda-kun, don't forget our mission."
Oda gave Fujino a persistent shove, saying, "Fujino-kun, you're such a coward. I'm ashamed to have a teammate like you."
Fujino wanted to say something more, but Albert smirked and clapped his hands happily. "Alright, Oda-kun, I think your suggestion is good. I plan to support your plan. So, please show us the way."
