Chapter 456: Choosing "Or" Between Sweet and Salty

As the principal, he had absolutely no idea about the quality of the food in their cafeteria.

Liu Xifeng turned her head and winked at someone next to her, who quickly slipped out of the office when no one was looking.

Meanwhile, on the other side, inside the cafeteria of Makino Academy.

A man with slicked-back hair was surveying the entire cafeteria with a briefcase tucked under his arm.

The surrounding students were already used to this, and many of the cafeteria staff were constantly trying to curry favor with the man.

The man, carrying a mobile phone antenna, struck a pose befitting a leader. A moment later, his phone rang. He glanced at the number, answered, and inquired.

"What is it?"

A moment later, the man's expression turned somewhat strange.

After hanging up the phone, he rushed straight to the kitchen, shouting orders as soon as he entered.

"Master Song! Master Song!"

"A leader is coming to our cafeteria for lunch later!"

"Go and get ready quickly."

"Xiao Wang, I'll give you a hundred yuan. Go pick up some cured meat and sausages from the village."

"Chef Song, it's all up to you to take charge of the cooking this time!"

Inside the kitchen, a bald chef glared at the man, giving him no friendly look whatsoever.

Even though this master craftsman was so arrogant, the man in charge still smiled and kept giving instructions.

"Master Song, please use the best of everything later."

"Since this leader is coming to dinner, we must treat him to the best of our ability."

"Don't be stingy, use it however you need to."

Master Song snorted coldly and asked in a slightly sarcastic tone.

"Aren't we using the chicken slices and fermented soybean oil anymore?"

"Are you willing to spend money now?"

Faced with ridicule, the man could only smile bitterly and plead incessantly.

"Oh dear, Master Song, please stop making fun of me."

"Isn't this a way to save costs for our small business?"

"A leader is a leader, and a student is a student."

"You get ready first, I'll go get a few bottles of good wine."

The man then left the kitchen.

After the other person left, Master Song watched their hurried figure and only gave a cold laugh.

"Cost saving?"

"Pah!"

A short while later, when Chef Song turned up the heat and started cooking, a commotion arose at the entrance of the canteen.

Many canteen staff members also paused their work to gaze into the distance.

Surrounded by a group of people at the entrance, a young man walked into the cafeteria with his head held high, sizing up the students eating there.

The aunt behind the cafeteria counter frowned and whispered to her colleague.

"Huh?! This is the leader who came to inspect the area. He's so young?"

"Don't let his young age fool you, he's incredibly capable. My husband told me he's a big leader in charge of our university town."

An auntie gave a thumbs-up and praised her in an exaggerated tone.

"Many things here have to go through him."

"Yeah?"

"That's amazing?"

"Otherwise, who do you think he is?"

Everyone sighed in dismay.

Inside the kitchen, Chef Song glanced out the window, tossing a wok in his hand while complaining to his apprentice.

"A high-ranking leader?"

"Bullshit!"

"This place is in such a state, even if the kids dare to eat it, I wouldn't dare to cook it!"

Seeing his master's resentful expression, the apprentice could only manage a helpless, bitter smile.

They couldn't do anything about it. The higher-ups were pressuring them, and things like buying groceries, which were supposed to be handled by the chefs, were pushed onto the school's purchasing department.

What vegetables are in season, how much to buy, and where to buy them—these are no longer their responsibilities.

The chefs couldn't bear to look at the expensive dishes they had bought.

Sprouted potatoes, cabbages that are so old they can't be any older, and all sorts of other vegetables, big and small—anyone who glances at the warehouse can tell how much kickback the buyers have taken.

Among the hardest-hit items are naturally daily necessities like rice, oil, and salt. The oil is soybean oil from some unknown workshop, bought in bulk. The price reported to the authorities is the average market price, but in reality, it's much cheaper when you actually receive it.

The rice was old rice; some of it was so old that the students probably could call him "uncle."

As for the others, needless to say, there were sauces that were about to expire, and salt from who-knows-when. The food prepared in the cafeteria was something that the chefs and staff dared not eat.

Don't be fooled by the fact that these small, scattered items may not seem like much money. They are consumables in the school cafeteria, and can easily generate tens of thousands of yuan in revenue each month.

"Master, why would a leader choose to eat at our shabby canteen when he has access to fancy restaurants?"

An apprentice took the freshly stir-fried shredded potatoes from Master Song and continued to press for answers in a low voice.

"Is this leader out of his mind?"

Master Song rolled his eyes and skillfully scooped up a ladle of water to rinse the pot.

"You're asking me? Who am I supposed to ask?"

"You worry about nothing all the time."

"Deliver the vegetables."

The apprentice gave an awkward smile and walked outside.

Meanwhile, at the school cafeteria tables, many leaders were already raising their glasses and exchanging pleasantries with Lin Yifeng.

Liu Xifeng took the initiative to introduce everyone to Lin Yifeng, and Lin Yifeng kept chatting and laughing with them.

Soon all the food was served. Lin Yifeng looked at the table and asked Liu Xifeng in a low voice.

"Principal Liu, is this how the students eat too?"

Liu Xifeng was slightly taken aback, then nodded repeatedly.

"Definitely."

We eat whatever the students eat.
