Courtyard: Selling the Iron Rice Bowl at the Start

Transmigrated to the Courtyard in 1962, I sold my iron rice bowl at the start.

I will study hard, get into a technical secondary school, and become a technician. When the trend rises, I will ...

Chapter 10 The Two Fools in the Courtyard

Wang Shouren let out a soft sigh.

In fact, he had sensed something was wrong long before.

When the results were released, his homeroom teacher called him in to ask about them. He honestly admitted that he had mastered a new method. At that moment, the homeroom teacher patted him on the shoulder meaningfully, signaling him to keep up the good work.

He didn't think much of it at the time.

But as time went on, things started to go wrong.

He has lived in this world for thirty days.

He prompted the system that it was time to give him the item.

But the system told him that his mission was not yet complete, and he had not truly survived.

Once he arrived in this world, he truly understood that something seemed to be happening around him. Initially, he wouldn't have been able to detect anything with his current level of intelligence, but later, Lou Xiao'e secretly told him that someone seemed to be investigating him.

This left him completely stunned. He searched through his memories but couldn't find out who was causing him trouble.

Hiding in his room, he meticulously reviewed his recent actions. The most unacceptable thing was that he had sold his job, and through an old man's connections no less. Because of this, he was called "the idiot" by the people in the courtyard, and he and "Silly Pillar" were known as the "Two Idiots of the Compound." Silly Pillar, who had been gossiping behind his back, nearly bit his own tongue off.

But he ignored it, and the matter passed in a few days. Who has nothing better to do than keep an eye on a silent guy all day?

The third uncle, however, would occasionally chat with him, cheerfully responding to his greetings, and even privately giving him books to encourage him to study hard so he could have a bright future.

Apart from that, there was nothing strange about it.

If I had to say something, it would be that my grades have improved by leaps and bounds.

He thought to himself, "Isn't this a good thing?"

But clearly, he underestimated this era, an era where the word "spy" is very common. When someone suddenly changes drastically, it's possible they've been turned.

The position of the steward was created from the very beginning for the purpose of catching spies.

However, by the 1960s, it had become very rare.

But why investigate himself? Wang Shouren couldn't figure it out.

Inside the principal's office,

A man in military uniform walked in through the back door of the principal's office.

Principal Li said somewhat angrily, "What exactly is the situation now? Do you have to investigate every single detail about a child trying to fulfill his father's last wish?"

The man said somewhat awkwardly, "Old Li, don't worry, there's nothing I can do. You know what happened last time..."

"Don't bring up what happened last time, just tell me how the investigation went this time."

"There shouldn't be any problems," the man said after a moment's hesitation.

"Then please leave!"

The man glanced at Principal Li, then hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but couldn't.

"Don't give me that ridiculous sixth sense, sixth sense, sixth sense. If everything has to be based on sixth sense, then all your investigation these past few days has been for nothing?! This..." Principal Li slammed the drawing Wang Shouren made onto the table: "If it were a spy, would you take it out?"

The man was initially dismissive, but after several days of investigation, he found Wang Shouren to be genuinely without fault. However, he still didn't believe the young man could produce anything extraordinary. He glanced at it, his expression hardening, and picked up the paper, examining it closely. He wasn't looking at the knowledge Wang Shouren had drawn; rather, he was looking at a summary of the knowledge he had gathered in his mind.

In that instant, it was as if he had received some kind of enlightenment; things he couldn't understand before suddenly became clear. He stared blankly at the piece of paper.

It wasn't until Principal Li gave a cold snort that he was jolted awake.

The man's eyes lit up as he looked at the paper and said to Principal Li, "I want to take it back."

"Heh, you think I'd show it to you if I didn't let you take it back?" Principal Li sneered. "It's all thanks to this little guy."

The man hesitated for a moment, then said, "There's no way to give it to him right now. You know things haven't been peaceful lately. Let's wait until things calm down."

"Good that you remember. Now get out of here." Principal Li waved his hand.

The man took the paper as if it were a priceless treasure and left.

"Hey, Shouren, you're back! How are you? It's almost New Year's, how about coming over to our house for some fun?" The third uncle's eyes lit up when he saw Wang Shouren carrying a paper package, and he said with a smile.

"No, no, Uncle, I won't go. I'm planning to spend this year alone," Wang Shouren replied cheerfully.

The things he was carrying were face cream and half a piece of pork that he had bought at the department store. He did this not for any other reason than to thank Lou Xiao'e for reminding him. If it weren't for Lou Xiao'e's reminder, Wang Shouren probably wouldn't have acted like this. In fact, he was not like the original owner of this body at all. He just always hid in his room studying and didn't interact with anyone.

This results in him appearing much like everyone else in everyday life.

Besides thanking Lou Xiao'e today, he also wanted to collect the reward from his system, which he had been looking forward to for a long time.

As they passed the Central Courtyard, Qin Huairu was diligently washing clothes. Seemingly noticing Wang Shouren's arrival, she looked up, brushed her bangs aside, and smiled at him: "Shouren, you're back."

Wang Shouren glanced at the beautiful woman and suddenly had a bold idea.

He walked over, looked around, and said to Qin Huairu with a smile, "Sister Qin, if you have time later, come to my room."

"Hmm, ah?" Qin Huairu was stunned for a moment, never expecting Wang Shouren to say such a thing, and didn't know how to respond.

But Wang Shouren gave her no chance at all; after saying that, he turned and left.

Another fat, big-eared head popped out of the room, its triangular eyes glaring fiercely at Qin Huairu: "You slut, trying to seduce someone again? Should I shout louder so everyone can see what you're like?!"

To be fair, Qin Huairu's dazed look at this moment had a unique charm of being a silly beauty.

Upon hearing what Jia Zhangshi said, Qin Huairu remained silent, lowered her head, and continued washing clothes.

Jia Zhangshi's words didn't attract any attention from the neighbors, mainly because they were all used to it. Besides, what was wrong with an honest child talking to Qin Huairu? In fact, Qin Huairu had watched this child grow up, so they hadn't thought anything of it, only privately lamenting Qin Huairu's bad luck.

No sooner had Wang Shouren left than Sha Zhu returned. Upon seeing Qin Huairu, he couldn't help but swallow hard and handed her the boxed lunch he was holding...
