Orphaned and working tirelessly for three years, I finally bought my own house only to face the apocalypse. For the second time, I must endure the same catastrophic disaster.

Chapter 124 Encountering an Acquaintance

After completing the points transaction with the potato seller, Xu Lin and Zhou Pin prepared to go back to get the grain for the old man. Smaller items could be taken out of their spatial storage using their backpacks, but the 130 jin (65 catties) of grain was a more obvious target.

The two set off on their electric scooter home. Once home, Xu Lin consciously entered her spatial dimension to search for food.

"Just mix the soaked grains we bought at the Gangcheng Shopping Mall with whole grains," Zhou Pin advised.

"Good idea."

Xu Lin found a burlap sack and mixed the soaked grains, coarse grains, and some broken rice she had bought earlier into it.

The electric scooter embarked on its journey once again. Zhou Pin, wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, and a sun-protective mask, with a silver sun-protective suit over his black thermal suit, sat in the driver's seat. Xu Lin, sitting in the truck bed, was fully armed from head to toe, with two burlap sacks under her feet.

Xu Lin felt that the old man probably had more than just this much, so she brought some extra grain, thinking that even if she didn't trade with him, she could still exchange it for other things at the free market.

A few minutes later, I arrived at the old man's building. Coincidentally, the old man also lived in Building 3.

The old man was already waiting downstairs with his bag on his back, and there was an old woman next to him, probably his wife. The two of them probably wanted to carry the grain home.

"You've arrived."

"The food has arrived. Let's check it first." Xu Lin didn't intend to deliver the food to the old man's house. She guessed the address was fake. In the apocalypse, there was basically no trust between people; it was all about taking what one needed.

The group arrived at a secluded corner of the apartment building. Zhou Pin opened his bag, and the old man grabbed a handful of rice and examined it carefully against the light to confirm that there was no problem. Then he opened the bag he was carrying and let Zhou Pin check it one by one. Both parties were quite satisfied with the goods, and then the grain was handed over to the old man.

"Grandpa, come find me again if you need any more goods." After saying that, she glanced at another sack on the truck. Sensing that the old man didn't want to continue the transaction today, Xu Lin didn't say much, but simply tried to be friendly with him.

"No problem." The old man hoped he would never have to exchange grain with them; so many antiques were really painful to part with.

After leaving the multi-story area, the two decided to try their luck at the free market, having brought all their food with them.

"Xu Lin!"

"Aunt Ning." Xu Lin looked up; it was Aunt Ning.

"It really is you! It looks like you from afar. What are you doing here?"

"Come over and take a look around. Where are you headed?"

"We're going to the service hall to exchange some things. Now that things have settled down, your Uncle Zheng and I are planning to hold a wedding for Zheng Ming and Jingjing, so that Jingjing can have a proper status."

Congratulations!

"Thank you. Since we've run into you, I won't invite you separately. Come over for dinner in three days. We've been through this together, so let's have a good time together."

“Okay, where will you stay?” Xu Lin was about to refuse, but Zhou Pin agreed immediately.

"Building 3, Unit 1, Room 401, come over early this morning."

“Okay, I’ll definitely be there,” Xu Lin said.

"We've all found jobs now, and life's not too bad. You don't need to bring anything. Let's all get together. I have to go now, your Uncle Zheng is waiting for me to go buy some things. Let's talk later!"

"Didn't we agree not to team up with them? Why are you attending the wedding again?" Xu Lin asked Zhou Pin after Aunt Ning left.

“We're isolated from the world, and I haven't found a job yet. I still have to ask them for some information, and besides…”

"And what?"

"It's nothing, let's go."
