Four years ago, Wen Shu was set up and spent a wild night with a man.
Four years later, the man appeared... "You stole my treasure, and you still want to leave?"
Wen Shu glanced at Aunt Zhang, her face full of wariness.
After all, Aunt Zhang was best at making veiled criticisms, and sometimes when she went too far, Wen Shu would retort.
If it's not too overtly warm and welcoming, just pretend you didn't hear it; after all, the two families aren't exactly on good terms.
As Wen Shu was about to leave, Aunt Zhang suddenly greeted her, "Wen Shu, are you going out?"
Wen Shu's eyes widened instantly, as if she had seen a ghost. Had Aunt Zhang taken the wrong medicine?
Why are you suddenly speaking to her so gently? What does it mean? Are you about to unleash another powerful move?
It wasn't that Wen Shu was speaking ill of Aunt Zhang, but Aunt Zhang's previous behavior made it impossible for anyone to believe that she had anything good on her mind and was thinking of Wen Shu.
"Really? Is something wrong?" Wen Shu asked warily.
Aunt Zhang chuckled awkwardly, "It's nothing much, I just wanted to ask you something... what's your relationship with that Mr. Lin?"
Wen Shu was taken aback. This wasn't the first time Aunt Zhang had inquired about Lin Han; she had done so once before.
It seems that Aunt Zhang really has her eye on Lin Han and is determined to find a boyfriend for her daughter!
Wen Shu said, "It's nothing, I'm not familiar with him. If you want to find a partner for your daughter, you should talk to him directly. It's no use coming to me."
Wen Shu took two steps, then turned back again and solemnly reminded him: "But I have to tell you, Mr. Lin's child is already ten years old."
Aunt Zhang hurriedly shook her head and said, "No, that's not what I'm asking. I'm just curious. That Mr. Lin has been coming over a lot lately. Sometimes when I see you're not home, he'll come over and check on you."
Wen Shu was even more puzzled. "Really? Thank you for reminding me."
After a few seconds of pause, Wen Shu said again, "Really? You seem to be very interested in Mr. Lin."
Aunt Zhang's gaze lingered on Wen Shu's face for a few moments before she said, "I'm not paying attention, I just see him often, so I'm just reminding you."
Wen Shu responded and was about to walk outside when Aunt Zhang suddenly asked again, "Wen Shu, did you go out for breakfast early this morning?"
Wen Shu: "???"
She looked at Aunt Zhang with some fear. What was Aunt Zhang doing, asking her all sorts of questions so early in the morning, and even starting to chat with her?
Seeing Wen Shu's expression, Aunt Zhang suddenly said, "I told you to wait for me."
After saying that, he turned around and ran into the house.
Wen Shu was completely bewildered, having no idea what Aunt Zhang was planning.
Before long, Aunt Zhang came running up to Wen Shu with a small plastic bag in her hand and shoved it into her hand. "I knew you didn't eat breakfast this morning. This is an extra portion of mine. You can have it."
Wen Shu: "!!!"
She looked at Aunt Zhang in horror. She dared not eat it. What if Aunt Zhang had put rat poison in it and wanted to kill her?
She had heard her grandmother mention that Aunt Zhang had been a nurse when she was young, and that she might really be ruthless.
Wen Shu certainly didn't dare to eat it, and instead stuffed it into Aunt Zhang's hand, saying, "Aunt Zhang, you eat it. I'll buy something to eat on the way. I have an appointment with a friend to discuss some things. Sorry to bother you!"
After saying that, Wen Shu shoved the bag into Aunt Zhang's hand and ran away in a flash.
Aunt Zhang stood there with a bag in her hand, sighing deeply. Why not eat it?
In the days that followed, Wen Shu discovered that Aunt Zhang seemed to have truly changed her ways.
She would stand at her door every few days, as if she were guarding her, sometimes with a few apples, sometimes with a few bananas, and at worst with roasted sweet potatoes.
Every day, Aunt Zhang would bring different foods, try different methods and different excuses, just to get Wen Shu to eat them. The more enthusiastic Aunt Zhang was, the less Wen Shu dared to eat.
In the past, when Aunt Zhang saw Wen Shu, she wished she could blow Wen Shu away a thousand miles away with her nostrils.
Because Aunt Zhang felt that Wen Shu had taken all the good matchmaking opportunities in the neighborhood, and when it came to her daughter's turn, all the men were unsuitable.
Aunt Zhang felt resentful.
Why are you suddenly being so nice to her now?
After thinking it over and over, Wen Shu became even more convinced that Aunt Zhang had ulterior motives. She must have tampered with the food. Why would she force her to eat something for no reason?
Do you feel like you can't afford apples, or you can't afford bananas?
Wen Shu herself didn't eat, and then specifically reminded her grandmother, "Grandma, Aunt Zhang next door has been trying to force-feed me these past few days, but we don't need her food. You shouldn't eat it either, and don't let Rou Rou eat it. I'm afraid she'll poison me!"
Grandma looked up in surprise and said, "It shouldn't be enough to poison someone to death, right?"
Upon hearing this, Wen Shu immediately asked, "Grandma, you didn't eat the food she gave you, did you?"
Grandma nodded and said, "She said a couple of days ago that her daughter's workplace gave out apples, a whole box of them. There were too many, and she couldn't finish them all at home. She was afraid they would rot, so she picked out six and brought them over. I thought that Rou Rou should eat fruit every day, so I accepted them since they were delivered to her door."
Wen Shu: "..."
Grandma said, "The main problem is that we live too close to her, we're practically next door. There's no need to make things too awkward. It's rare for her to take the initiative to come over and be nice to us, so we can't be too aloof."
Wen Shu: "I just think Aunt Zhang is acting strangely. Her attitude used to be like that, but suddenly it changed to this. It's just inexplicable."
Grandma laughed and said, "Who cares about the reason? Her intention to make amends means she's willing to humble herself and ease the tension. Aunt Zhang even said that she had offended her before, and she admitted that she was upset at the time and apologized."
Wen Shu frowned. "Aunt Zhang actually came to our house to apologize. What's going on?"
No sooner had she finished speaking than Aunt Zhang's voice rang out from outside the gate, "Auntie, I just stewed some pork ribs, but I made too many. I'll share some with your Wenshu and Rourou, otherwise it'll go to waste. They won't be fresh by tonight!"
Grandma pointed to the door. "Here she comes again. What are you going to do, lock her out, or kick her out?"
Wen Shu: "..."
She pursed her lips, stood up, and opened the door.
"Wen Shu is home today too? Then you can try the ribs I made. I made too many. I went early this morning, and the ribs were fresh and inexpensive, so I bought a little extra and accidentally made too many."
Aunt Zhang enthusiastically placed the bowl on the table. "Meat, eat more meat, grow tall, strong, fat, and beautiful!"
Wen Rourou's small, chubby hands gripped the large chopsticks. "Thank you, Grandma Zhang!"
After putting the meat down, Aunt Zhang smiled and quickly left, without saying a word or leaving any unpleasant traces.
Wen Shu: "..."
Grandma: "Alright, stop staring blankly and sit down to eat. If he really wanted to poison us, would he keep sending us so much delicious food?"
"Later, give one of the pineapples I bought this morning to Aunt Zhang."
It's all about reciprocity between neighbors; there's no reason for Aunt Zhang to always be the one making the payments.
Grandma understood this simple principle. Whenever Aunt Zhang brought something over, Grandma would try her best to return something to her.
