Days as a Wet Nurse in the Jiang Mansion

After the death of her husband and father-in-law, Ye Yunniang’s mother-in-law made a decisive move—selling their house and land before taking her daughter-in-law and grandson to seek refuge wit...

Chapter 28 Questioning

The food Ye Yunniang picked up with her chopsticks fell onto the table.

She didn't care at all; she only had one thought in her mind.

He's back!

The second master of the Jiang family is back!!

What should she do?

"Sister, are you full?" Li'er asked when she saw Ye Yunniang stop eating.

"Oh, I'm full." Ye Yunniang had no appetite left and put down her chopsticks.

Pear got up to tidy up and took the food box to the main kitchen.

Ye Yunniang was digesting her food in the courtyard and thinking about what to do next.

After thinking it over and over, I still couldn't come up with a good idea.

Aunt Jinlan entered the courtyard through the gate and saw Ye Yunniang wandering around inside. She frowned.

“It’s late, why isn’t Nurse Ye going back to her room to rest?”

"Let's go back to the room." Ye Yunniang was puzzled as to why Aunt Jinlan disliked her. She didn't have the mind to talk to her any further at the moment.

Ye Yunniang turned around, went back into the house, and closed the door.

Aunt Jinlan looked at the closed door, a hint of disdain in her eyes.

That night, Ye Yunniang didn't sleep well; her dreams were filled with Jiang Mingzhe's face, which seemed to be relentlessly pursuing her.

She woke up feeling dizzy and disoriented, so she washed her face with cold water. Ye Yunniang cleared her head and then sat in the sun to bask in its warmth.

The sun was shining, it felt so warm, and I felt drowsy.

A burst of noise interrupted Ye Yunniang's sleep.

Curiosity took hold, and Ye Yunniang got up and walked towards the bustling area.

Beside the Wangfeng Pavilion, two young maids were fighting.

"You little slut, a whore born of a mother but raised without one. A prostitute who gave birth to a son without an anus..." A variety of offensive words were uttered from the mouth of a beautiful woman.

Another person, less attractive, couldn't utter those words, so he became violent, scratching, pinching, and clawing...

The two rolled onto the ground and continued fighting.

A crowd gathered around, watching, pointing, laughing, and joking.

Pear was also among the crowd watching the excitement.

Ye Yunniang walked over to her side, "Li'er, what's going on?"

"This is a good spot," Li'er said, making room for Ye Yunniang. "You can see very clearly."

Ye Yunniang had just stood still when she heard someone shout, "The men in black are here! Run!"

Pear pulled Ye Yunniang along a side path, circled around a few bends, looked back to see if anyone was there, and then stopped.

"Luckily, I wasn't caught. If I had, I would have worked for nothing this month." Pear patted her chest and gasped for breath.

Ye Yunniang, panting, asked in confusion, "What are the black-clad people? Why is everyone so afraid of them?"

"The men in black are the patrol team of the Jiang family."

The patrol team of the Jiang family usually appeared at night and always wore all black clothes, which led other servants in the Jiang family to jokingly call them "Black Clothes".

If the patrol team catches any servants of the Jiang family who violate the rules, they will send them to Zhuyunxuan and hand them over to Granny Kong for judgment and punishment.

The lightest punishment is a monthly fine.

The more severe punishments were slapping the hands and spanking the buttocks.

Even worse, they could be kicked out of the mansion.

The servants in the manor were all afraid of the man in black; none of them who were caught could leave Zhuyun Pavilion unharmed.

"I don't know, why did they appear in broad daylight?" Pear wondered, as they were rarely seen during the day.

"Who cares how they show up? Let's go back to Zhiyu Pavilion first." Looking around, she realized she didn't recognize the place. Ye Yunniang's heart sank; she was afraid she might encounter/hear something bad again.

Pear was very familiar with the backyard of the Jiang residence, and led Ye Yunniang through a maze of winding paths back to Zhiyu Pavilion.

A maidservant stood guard at the entrance of Zhiyu Pavilion.

"Nanny Ye, the madam requests your presence."

Ye Yunniang checked herself and found that her clothes were not dirty and her hair was not messy.

Ye Yunniang followed her maid to Fanghua Courtyard.

Madam Jiang Si sat at the head of the table with a bad expression.

"You really didn't tell anyone about Jiang Mingyue's matter?" Madam Jiang questioned Ye Yunniang.

Ye Yunniang thought of Jiang Tingjun, "I,"

"Tell the truth." Madam Jiang slammed her hand on the table, her voice filled with undisguised anger.

Ye Yunniang dared not hide anything this time and told the whole story.

“This is a huge matter. I’m panicking and don’t dare tell anyone. But since the young master is asleep and there’s no one else in the room, I just said a few words to him.”

"Who else but Jun'er?"

“That’s all. I swear to Buddha. I only told you and the young master. If I told anyone else, may I die a horrible death.” Ye Yunniang raised her hand to swear.

"Ye Yunniang, for Jun'er's sake, I'll trust you one more time. But if there's a next time, I won't let you off easily." Madam Jiang's tone was icy, carrying a hint of murderous intent.

"There won't be a next time," Ye Yunniang assured her repeatedly.

"Get out." Madam Jiang Si had no desire to see Ye Yunniang at this moment.

Ye Yunniang stepped back and left.

Back at Zhiyu Pavilion, Ye Yunniang couldn't help but slap her mouth twice. Why couldn't she control herself? This matter shouldn't have been told to outsiders; it should have been kept to herself.

Remembering what Cai Damei had taught her: talk less and do more.

Ye Yunniang reflected on her recent reckless behavior and admonished herself to be careful with her words and actions.

Pear rushed in, "Sister, something's happened!"

Ye Yunniang helped Li'er, who was running unsteadily, and asked, "What happened?"

Li'er calmed her breathing and said, "Sister, Miss Ziyuan has been driven away by the Madam."

"Why?" Ye Yunniang asked in surprise. Ziyuan was the most capable maidservant by Madam Jiang's side. She was specially assigned to manage Jiang Tingjun's affairs.

"I don't know." Pear was also unsure. When she returned, she saw a distracted Ziyuan being pulled away by a woman.

Pear made way and bowed, "Greetings, Sister Purple Iris."

Zi Yuan didn't answer, but the woman beside her retorted, "She's not Zi Yuan anymore." She then turned and shouted at Zi Yuan, "Zhang Daya, get out of here! You shameful thing!"

"I won't leave. Sanlang wouldn't treat me like this. I won't leave." Ziyuan realized what was happening and struggled, trying to run south.
