After the death of her husband and father-in-law, Ye Yunniang’s mother-in-law made a decisive move—selling their house and land before taking her daughter-in-law and grandson to seek refuge with he...
Cai Damei overheard Bao Min and Tong Mo's conversation on the boat that day. She found Bao Min's behavior disgusting.
"I mean it." Bao Min wasn't embarrassed after being exposed, and continued to look at Cai Damei with the same affectionate gaze one would give a dog.
"If you were truly sincere, you wouldn't have laid a hand on me so easily, and you wouldn't have been so eager to possess me."
I, Cai Damei, am an illiterate peasant woman, and I don't understand those official rules. But I, Cai Damei, have always been an honest and upright person. The man I married was formally proposed to by a matchmaker, and both sets of parents agreed. I, Cai Damei, would never do anything without a matchmaker." After saying this, Cai Damei turned to leave.
Bao Min grabbed Cai Damei's hand, "I do not accept the accusations made by the madam."
Bao Min pulled Cai Damei into his arms and hugged her waist.
"Madam said that your daughter-in-law had no choice in the matter. So you encouraged her to give in to Jiang Mingzhe half-heartedly."
Now I, Bao Min, the Prefect of Jiangcheng, the magistrate of this entire city, extend my hand to you. Why don't you half-heartedly submit to me?
If you come with me, you and your mother-in-law, while not necessarily able to walk sideways in Jiangcheng, will at least be safe from all bullying.
That's the Jiang family, once the richest family in China. Even they would treat you with utmost respect.
Bao Min's voice was all seductive.
Cai Damei struggled, "Let me go."
Bao Min hugged her even tighter, their chests pressed together.
"Madam, do you agree with Ye Yunniang because you feel sorry for her being a young widow without a man to love her?"
Madam, you are also a widow. You also need a man's comfort. I, Bao Min, am willing to be your intimate companion, your devoted subject. Why don't you agree?
You claim to be innocent and incorruptible, and that you would never engage in illicit relations. I am willing to marry you properly, with a grand procession carried in a sedan chair.
Why do you disagree?
Or perhaps, Madam wants to maintain her reputation as a chaste and virtuous woman. Madam knows Ye Yunniang is young and will definitely remarry. So you're telling her to use her body to earn money before she remarries, so that you and your granddaughter can live a good life,”
*Thud!* Huff, huff... Cai Damei gasped for breath.
"Shut up."
Bao Min didn't care about being hit and laughed, "I've hit the nail on the head."
“Nonsense, I didn’t,” Cai Damei retorted loudly.
"Madam, are you sure you don't have it?" Bao Min didn't believe it.
Cai Damei stared at Bao Min and said, word by word, "My feelings for Yunniang are genuine. I have a clear conscience."
What does it prove that Cai Damei doesn't want to argue with Bao Min?
She knew she truly cared for Ye Yunniang and wanted what was best for her.
Cai Damei pushed Bao Min away forcefully, turned around, and limped down the mountain.
"Madam, do you no longer want the wolf fang?" Bao Min's words made Cai Damei stop in her tracks.
"Give it to me." Cai Damei reached out her hand; she wanted to take back her son's belongings.
“Madam, let’s make a deal,” Bao Min suggested.
“I refuse.” Cai Damei refused without even thinking.
Cai Damei couldn't see through Bao Min and didn't want to have much contact with him. She always felt she would be persuaded by him.
"Your wife doesn't really care about your daughter-in-law."
"What do you mean?"
"Ye Yunniang is almost four months pregnant. Her belly is about to become obvious. Have you thought about how to explain the father of the child in her belly to the public?" Bao Min asked a very practical question.
Cai Damei had considered this issue before. She originally planned to stay in Lincheng with her family of four after dealing with Li Min and Li Jun's graves, until Ye Yunniang gave birth, and then return to Jiangcheng.
They told the public that the child was adopted and that they wanted to find a younger brother for Pan'er.
That was Ang Lee's original statement, and the neighbors all accepted it. Having one more child shouldn't be a problem.
Bao Min nodded after listening. "Madam's idea is quite good. However," Bao Min paused, then said nothing more.
"But what?" Cai Damei couldn't help but ask.
"The child's appearance." Jiang Tingjun doesn't resemble Ye Yunniang, so this is acceptable. But the child in Ye Yunniang's belly is another matter entirely.
It can be explained that the child wanted is related to Ye Yunniang.
What if it's like Jiang Mingzhe?
Jiang Mingzhe is a household name in Jiangcheng.
If a child is like Jiang Mingzhe, others will definitely investigate.
They found out the child was Jiang Mingzhe's.
Jiang Mingzhe's mortal enemies will surely crush Cai Damei and her mother-in-law as easily as crushing ants.
"You're lying." Cai Damei said she didn't believe her, but the anxiety in her eyes couldn't be hidden.
"Madam, if you marry me, none of this will be a problem." Bao Min's words were all aimed at getting Cai Damei to agree to marry him.
"Sir, would you like to see a doctor?" Cai Damei felt that Bao Min couldn't understand human language at all.
“Madam, only you can cure my illness.” Bao Min’s words gave Cai Damei goosebumps, and she shuddered.
Can't you speak properly?
"Madam, don't you like it?" Bao Min asked, watching his brother speak to his sister-in-law like that. His sister-in-law loved hearing it and listened to everything his brother said.
"I don't like it. Adults should talk like normal people." Cai Damei felt like she was going to throw up if she listened to Bao Min say anything more.
“Alright, I’ll do whatever you say, Madam.” Bao Min resumed his serious demeanor.
“Even if I marry you, the matter of Yunniang’s child is still uncertain.” Cai Damei thought about it for a while, following Bao Min’s words, and decided that it wouldn’t work.
Bao Min's identity is destined to attract more attention.
Yunniang and her unborn child are more likely to be exposed.
Cai Damei felt that her original idea was still the best.
“They wouldn’t dare,” Bao Min said confidently. After much effort, Jiangcheng was now under Bao Min’s control.
Even the Lin family, the prime ministers, had to show him some respect.
His current sister-in-law's brother is a great general.
