34 · Chapter 34

Jason opened his eyes drowsily. Looking at Messiah sleeping beside him with rosy cheeks, he couldn't help but smile happily.

Let my brother sleep a little longer.

Jason looked at Messiah's sleeping face quietly for a while, climbed out of bed quietly, being careful not to make any noise, and ran to wash and cook by himself.

He stood on the bench and struggled to fry two eggs, barely making two crookedly stacked sandwiches, then began to wait for the Messiah to wake up.

But he waited and waited, the sandwich went from steaming hot to completely cold, the clock on the wall went round and round, but the Messiah never woke up.

Jason ran back to the bedroom and looked at Messiah lying on the bed with half of his face buried in the quilt. He worriedly touched Messiah's forehead with the back of his hand.

Did my brother have a fever after sleeping for so long? But the temperature of his forehead was normal.

Jason carefully pushed Messiah, but found that Messiah still did not respond, and he panicked instantly.

"Messiah, Messiah..." Jason shouted Messiah's name. He thought Messiah was sick and that was why he slept for so long. He couldn't wake him up no matter how hard he tried. "Wake up, are you feeling unwell?"

Messiah, who was completely disconnected, opened his eyes without warning and sat up straight, startling Jason who was leaning in to observe his situation.

Jason asked tentatively, "Messiah...?"

Messiah turned his head like a little robot and said calmly, "Good morning, Jason."

He got up quickly, ran to the sink with his short legs to wash up, then went to the kitchen to heat up the cold sandwich, and then sat down at the dining table and waited for Jason to eat.

Jason stared at Messiah in amazement. He was shocked by Messiah's smooth combo.

He sat on the dining chair in astonishment, staring at the sandwich Messiah pushed in front of him, and stammered, "Good morning?"

Messiah nodded calmly, his ahoge swaying back and forth: "Well, let's eat."

Jason nodded subconsciously, but couldn't help but take a bite of his sandwich and glance at Messiah. The confusion on his face almost made him throw it into Messiah's bowl.

Messiah pretended not to notice Jason's confusion and stared at the sandwich on the table, as if it were some kind of divine object with great appeal.

Only the toes digging the ground hard explained everything.

Messiah had not expected this to happen. This was his first time sleeping, and he did not know that normal humans had a time limit for sleeping, so he simply closed his senses and fell into a deep sleep.

If Jason hadn't tried hard to wake Messiah up, Messiah might have slept for ten years.

Therefore, after being woken up by Jason, Messiah immediately opened his ears to listen to the voices of the world, frantically reviewed the common sense related to sleeping and waking up, and tried to use a set of smooth combos to make Jason forget his small mistake.

But obviously, judging from Jason's performance, Messiah's smooth combo not only failed to make him forget Messiah's mistakes, but had the opposite effect.

After all, it was really shocking that the younger brother who had no common sense suddenly gained common sense and even took the initiative to heat up the meal.

Jason wanted to say something but stopped himself, but when he saw Messiah's ears turning red, he silently chose to shut up.

After finishing breakfast in a daze, Jason wiped his mouth, selectively forgetting what happened in the morning, and brought up business with Messiah.

"I counted my savings. If I live frugally, it should cover four years of tuition and other expenses." Jason gestured with his fork. "As for subsequent tuition, I can save slowly."

Jason deliberately omitted the personal pronouns. After careful consideration, he decided to let Messiah go to school alone.

Ten thousand dollars, if used to support both him and Messiah's education, would only last for two years. But if only Messiah was allowed to study, and he continued to "work" and save money at the same time, it should be enough to support Messiah until he graduated from elementary school.

Jason chose to hide this from Messiah because he knew that once Messiah knew about it, he would definitely do something with his power.

He knew that the two of them could live a good life if they relied on the Messiah's seemingly all-powerful ability, but that was absolutely not allowed.

Jason didn't want to become a parasite who could only rely on his younger brother, nor did he want all the pressure to fall on the little Messiah. As the older brother, he was the one who should support the family.

And if the Messiah is allowed to use his abilities recklessly, and now it's Batman and Robin who are being courted, he believes Batman and Robin will keep it a secret for them, but what if it's someone else?

Jason doesn't believe in the morals of Gotham people. Even he himself has no such thing as morals.

"That's right." Jason put down his fork and said casually, without revealing any of his worry to Messiah, "Brother, I have the school's contact information. Once I figure out how to complete the admission procedures, I can start studying."

Messiah gulped down his sandwich, breathed a sigh of relief at having successfully tricked Jason, and nodded quickly, "Yeah!"

Obviously, Messiah was completely unaware that it wasn't his poor acting that fooled Jason, but that the doting Jason had let him go.

Jason nodded in satisfaction. He was about to say something else when his attention was drawn to the sound of a sudden broadcast.

"Bruce Wayne, Chairman of the Wayne Corporation, visited Crime Alley and donated a year's worth of free lunches to the community. Meanwhile, the Martha Charitable Foundation will also provide free medical care and education funds to out-of-school children in Crime Alley..."

The loud broadcast was played over the entire Crime Alley in a loop, and Crime Alley instantly became noisy.

Messiah frowned slightly, his open hearing completely occupied by sounds related to "Bruce Wayne".

"Ha, why would rich Wayne condescend to come to our place? Isn't the Diamond District enough for him to act?"

"Tsk tsk tsk, you're asking for trouble. The old Wayne couple died in Crime Alley. Does Wayne want to die here too?"

"You said we take the opportunity to kidnap Wayne, is that okay?"

"I bet that idiot and his foundation won't last long. Crime Alley is no place for an idiot like you."

All kinds of malicious voices suddenly became louder. Messiah subconsciously pressed his temples against his temples, and a faint golden light appeared in his golden eyes.

Dirty and filthy.

Needs purification.

A strange energy, both dangerous and harmless, enveloped Crime Alley. Bruce Wayne, who was yawning and getting out of the car, paused and looked up at the dim sky, but saw nothing.

No one noticed anything was wrong except Bruce, who seemed to be aware of something.

"Bruce Wayne is here?"

Jason's eyes lit up instantly. He listened to the broadcast to confirm that he had heard correctly: "Messiah, did you hear that? Free lunch and education fund!"

The golden light that was growing brighter in Messiah's eyes died down, and Jason's exclamation drew his attention back to the human world.

"Bruce Wayne...?" Messiah tilted his head. "What a familiar name."

Jason shrugged. "After all, all of Gotham belongs to the Wayne family. Maybe I've heard of it somewhere."

He didn't take Messiah's words to heart, and rushed downstairs, pulling Messiah with him: "Come on, let's go down and take a look."

"If it's true, then our tuition fees can be saved—"

The inexplicable sense of crisis disappeared.

Bruce frowned slightly, and the sound of Jason and Messiah's conversation came from the tiny wireless headphones hidden in his ear canal, which gradually relaxed his brow.

The target took the bait.

Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, who showed up to catch the kids, stepped onto the land of Crime Alley.

This was his first time in Crime Alley as Bruce Wayne outside of Thomas and Martha's... anniversary.

"Mr. Wayne?" The head of the Martha Charitable Foundation greeted Bruce with a wry smile. "Why did you come in person? A place like Crime Alley isn't worth your attention. Put..."

After meeting Bruce's gaze, the person in charge suddenly stopped talking. He looked into Wayne's sharp steel-blue eyes and was subconsciously shocked and took a step back.

Is this the look that the legendary playboy who doesn't work properly would have?

Bruce lazily covered his mouth and yawned again. He casually put his arm around the person in charge's shoulders, letting the person support his unsteady body. He said sleepily, "What's wrong, John? I'm seriously sleep-deprived right now. We can talk later if there's anything."

"You know, last night was a great night."

The person in charge tried to support Bruce's body while secretly cursing Wayne, a idiot with fancy moves, for wanting to be so big: "I understand, I understand."

"Hmm, then, let's go check out the free lunch distribution site?" Bruce smiled ambiguously. "I'd better take a few more photos to deal with those reporters who are pestering me."

"I really don't understand those guys. I just changed my girlfriend, and they were waiting for me under Wayne Building every day."

Listening to Wayne's dissatisfied complaints, the person in charge secretly breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed that Wayne was just here for a show and he had not discovered any problems with the foundation's cash flow.

Just keep being an idiot. A fierce look flashed in the person in charge's eyes. He didn't want to take action against the big money of the foundation. Otherwise, the Wayne family would die in Crime Alley, which would be too pitiful.

Rich Idiot Bruce casually surveyed the scene in Crime Alley, occasionally exclaiming in wonder at the dilapidated buildings, the smile on the face of the person in charge growing wider and wider.

The person in charge was very satisfied with Bruce Wayne's performance of not wanting to eat meat. After all, the more Wayne, a rich man, was out of touch with the world, the better he could get away with it.

In front of them was the place where free lunch was distributed. A crowded crowd came into their sight and the noise suddenly became noisy.

Bruce casually glanced at the free lunch truck, and the smile on his face immediately faded.

For ten dollars a head, this is what they're given?

Bruce looked at the white bread and milk that could barely fill his stomach, and he didn't expect that even if he came to inspect, the people in the foundation would not be willing to give him any less.

This is just the first day of the free lunch, so do it.

"Hmm, ten dollars?" Bruce glanced at the person in charge nonchalantly. "It seems that the recent prices in Gotham are quite different from what I imagined."

The smile on the person in charge's face froze. He was certainly not so stupid as to commit a crime in front of Bruce Wayne.

But he didn't expect that his subordinates had already become so rampant that even if he had deliberately instructed them, they would only use the money after layers of exploitation for purchases, not the complete funds.

"Mr. Wayne, please listen to me." A fierce look flashed in the person in charge's eyes, but on the surface he was still trying to explain hurriedly, "I..."

"Bang--"

Two children who were running hurriedly bumped into the person in charge and Bruce. The person in charge's expression changed instantly. He lowered his head and scolded the two children harshly, and called for the bodyguards to take them away.

The little boy in the red sweatshirt tightly protected the little boy in shorts and a white shirt behind him, looking at them nervously.

"John, don't be so angry, they are just two children."

Bruce held the two children's shoulders, one on each side, and gave the person in charge his signature innocent smile: "Seeing them reminds me of Dick. They are such poor kids. Why not forgive them?"

Messiah blinked and looked up at the familiar face of Bruce Wayne.

Batman?

Messiah finally remembered why he felt the name was familiar, Bruce Wayne was Batman.

Unaware that his cover had been blown, Bruce looked down at Jason and Messiah, his steel-blue eyes as gentle as the night sea. "Kids, are you all right?"

Jason nervously shook Messiah's hand.
