A heartwarming daily life farming novel, occasionally also a passionate epic.
Spears spread across the wilderness like a thriving forest. Glorious knights march in formation, and countless bl...
The corridor of the Yagtilin family passed through the garden in the courtyard. The stone pillars on the side of the corridor were carved with patterns of shells and mermaids, which were clearly visible in the bright moonlight.
After following the butler out of the banquet hall, the surrounding environment became quiet, and only the occasional noise and music from the banquet in the distance could be heard.
The young butler walked in front, holding a black wrought iron lantern in his hand. The orange light illuminated the road under his feet, and his face was bright and dark in the shadow of the light.
"Miss Lacey, this is your first time at the Yagtilin family, right? In fact, Lord Angus often stayed here before, so you don't have to feel too restrained."
"Well, this is my first time here. I should be familiar with it later."
The girl looked at the bright full moon in the sky, her eyes occasionally sweeping across the gradually quiet and darkening courtyard, and asked.
"Is Master Jelinek's study far from here?"
"It's just around the corner. I like to work in a quiet place. I'm sorry to invite you so late."
He explained naturally, but did not stop.
Loran Hill looked at the butler's back, sighed softly, and continued to follow.
Dongdong——
There was a knock on the dark red lacquered wooden door, and the light from the room could be seen through the crack.
"Come in."
Squeak——
As the door opened, a middle-aged man could be seen sitting at a desk. A small table and sofa had been temporarily placed in the room. On the small table sat a nightlight, snacks, and fruit. Several candles lit the walls, illuminating the room.
"Ms. Lacy, please take a seat."
Jelinek stood up from his seat and invited Loran Hill to sit on the sofa next to the small table, and then he sat on the sofa opposite.
Then the butler Owen brought two more drinks and placed them on the small table, then stepped out of the room and closed the door.
"Miss Lacey, maybe it's a little strange to call her that. I'd rather call her Niece Lacey, because Angus and I have been good friends for many years, like brothers."
"It's okay. You are father's good friend. It's okay to call me that." Loran Hill, also known as Lacey, answered while holding the drink in her hand.
"I am deeply saddened by your father's sudden passing, and I have many questions."
"I know this is very presumptuous and disrespectful, but as a close friend of his, I really want to understand the circumstances of the attack."
"You may ask."
"Where was Niece Lacey attacked?"
"It was on the road from Xifeng to Wilga..." Then Loran Hill reconstructed the process of the attack based on what he saw at the time.
"So, before your father died, he transferred all his property to you?"
"Yes."
"Was there anyone else present at the time?"
"Butler Ceres and head maid Chelsea are also here." The girl looked at the reddish wine in her hand and answered slowly.
"So, Chelsea is here too..." The middle-aged man seemed to have some sighs and lamentations on his face.
"Uncle Jelinek, you seem to have a lot of questions."
Jelinek picked up the fruit wine in front of him, drank it in one gulp, and then spoke.
"Yeah, I'm confused. Chelsea actually betrayed Angus." After saying that, the glass in his hand fell down with a bang and shattered into pieces.
The door of the room was suddenly opened, and more than a dozen guards wearing robes and mail rushed in. They were holding spears and crossbows and surrounded Loran Hill.
More than ten sharp spears were pointed at the girl in the blue dress, and the spear blades reflected bursts of cold light under the candlelight. Six crossbowmen stood behind Jelinek, raised their crossbows, and aimed them at the girl with a dreamy face. There was a faint magical power emerging from the matte black crossbows, but they were not fired.
These spearmen are all War Sequence 2·Javelin Guards, and those crossbowmen are also War Sequence 2·Black Crossbow Guards. It seems that the Yagtilin family is quite powerful and can summon more than a dozen Sequence 2 guards at once.
Loran Hill was not panicked, but looked up at the nominal uncle in front of him, as if asking, why?
"I advise you not to resist. This will save your life. Don't expect the riders outside the courtyard gate to rush in and rescue you. Someone is already dealing with it there."
Jelinek placed his hands on the armrests and stared at the blonde girl in the blue dress.
Seeing that Loran Hill remained silent, he continued speaking.
"Angus and I have known each other for over ten years. We went on adventures together on the South China Sea Islands. We narrowly escaped death several times, and he saved me many times. We consider each other brothers."
"I can't tolerate that someone would murder him and usurp his family property that he has owned for many years by pretending to be his daughter." He said word by word.
"Why do you think I'm not his daughter?"
"Indeed, Angus protected his daughter very well. She has always lived in West Wind. No one in Verga has ever seen her appearance."
"But unfortunately, I am an exception. Many years ago, when I went to Xifeng for business, I was fortunate enough to be invited to his home and meet his daughter."
"Maybe she doesn't have a face as beautiful as yours, but she's still a cute girl. She doesn't look like you."
"And Angus called her Elaine, not Lacey." There was a hint of indignation in Jelinek's voice.
"Mr. Jelinek, you and Angus are truly close friends."
"You should be well aware that many guests tonight have already seen me. If I were to be imprisoned here, the news would spread throughout Verga within three days."
"The Yagtilin family betrayed their long-time friends and murdered the orphan girl of the Carites family. This incident will soon spread to every town, guild, and people in Verga."
