Chapter 23 Huang Sisters 02

Captain Huang: "Shut up! You're so harsh on your granddaughter, refusing to help someone in distress. Who gave you the audacity to disregard human life?"

Upon hearing this, the old woman immediately lay down on the ground and rolled around, cursing loudly, "Huang Dawei, you good-for-nothing! I've been married to you for decades and have had four sons with you, and I've never had a single good day."

"You're old and you still have to risk your life for a worthless piece of trash? Are you even human?"

The old woman's unreasonable behavior infuriated Captain Huang: "Laidi has become like this, someone is trying to murder her for money. I'll send someone to town to ask the police to come and investigate. Let's see how long you can hold out."

After saying that, he turned to leave, but a well-dressed middle-aged man quickly stopped him: "Captain, let's talk this out. It's just giving Lai Di eggs, we'll give them to her, please don't be angry."

Captain Huang pointed at his nose and cursed, "Huang Jingbei, you're no better! If your daughter hadn't pushed Lai Di down, would any of this have happened?"

"Instead of trying to solve the problem, you push your mother out to shield you, preventing people from going to find Yu Zhiqing to rescue her, hoping that Lai Di will just die like this."

"You've been able to read so many books and still be able to work in the city, thanks in no small part to your second brother. How can you treat his daughter like this? Are you even human?"

Captain Huang's scathing rebuke turned Huang Jingbei's face a deep purplish-red.

Huang Dawei's wife, Li Cuiniang, the triangular-eyed old woman who was lying on the ground throwing a tantrum, got up angrily when she saw her precious son being scolded.

Li Cuiniang: "That good-for-nothing girl is the one who's looking for trouble. If she had just stayed put, none of this would have happened. She's just asking for trouble because she's worthless. You can't blame Lao Si."

Li Cuiniang's overbearing behavior even made the usually unassuming Party Secretary Li unable to stand it: "Hongbing, you should go to the town's police station. Someone's going to die, so the police should come and see how to handle this."

Hongbing is the name of Captain Huang; his full name is Huang Hongbing.

Neither of the two team leaders wanted to let the matter rest. Li Cuiniang glanced at Huang Jingnan, who was standing silently to the side, and her triangular eyes darted around.

Li Cuiniang: "Second son, what do you mean? Are you really going to make your old mother pay with her life for that good-for-nothing of yours?"

Huang Daidi, the girl who had just gone to call Yu Rujia, looked angrily at her biological father, Huang Jingnan. If it weren't for his incompetence and blind filial piety, and his disregard for human beings, they wouldn't have been treated like cattle and horses by the Huang family.

Huang Jingnan grumbled a few times, and finally said, "Secretary, Captain, it was Lai Di's own fault for not standing properly, it has nothing to do with anyone else."

These words infuriated Secretary Li and Captain Huang. They were arguing for their daughter, but her own father was dragging them down. They had never seen such a spineless coward.

They wouldn't have come if Huang Daidi hadn't run over to beg them to come and save Laidi.

Yu Rujia watched the whole thing unfold, wasting a lot of energy and medicine, but didn't get anything in return. She then left Huang Dawei's house with Secretary Li and Captain Huang, both seething with anger.

Captain Huang cursed and said, "I've never seen such a useless father. Lai Di and the others are really unlucky to have such a father."

Party Secretary Li sighed, "Jingnan has no son, so he's always been unable to stand up straight, which is why he's like this."

Captain Huang: "This has nothing to do with whether he has a son or not. Before he got married, he was a coward who wouldn't utter a word. He listened to his mother in everything. He was a good-for-nothing."

Party Secretary Li exhaled a smoke ring and said, "Alright, let's not talk about them anymore, it's bad for my mood."

Captain Huang took a deep breath, suppressing his anger, and turned to look at Yu Rujia: "Yu Zhiqing, Dawei's wife is just that kind of person. Don't take her words to heart."

Yu Rujia: "If I took the words of such a shrew to heart, I would be furious sooner or later. But Laidi's condition is really bad; she could die if she's not careful."

She genuinely didn't take Li Cuiniang's words seriously. If you really offended her, she would dare to kill. In all her lifetimes, countless people had died at her hands.

Even if she doesn't kill anyone, she has plenty of ways to teach a shrew a lesson, and no one can find out.

Captain Huang: "What can we do? Apart from her and her children, no one else cares whether she lives or dies. It's no use for us to do evil in there."

Yu Rujia: "How did things turn out like this?"

Party Secretary Li said, "When Lai Di came to us, she only said that Huang Xiangxiang, the daughter of Huang Jingbei, the fourth son of the Huang family, pushed Lai Di to the ground and broke her head. She begged us to come quickly to save her, otherwise Lai Di would die."

“We were worried about Lai Di, so we didn’t have time to ask her in detail before we came with her. When we asked her again later, everyone in her family was as tight-lipped as if their mouths were sealed shut.”

"So we don't know what the purpose of this is, but it must be something shady."

Yu Rujia: "So we're just going to leave it like this?"

Captain Huang: "Huang Jingnan is a good-for-nothing who doesn't do anything. His wife is a coward. In the more than ten years since she married into the family, the most daring thing she did was to stop Dawei's wife from throwing away their daughter after she was born.

"It's probably difficult to get her to stand up against the Huang family. No one is coming forward to testify, and they insist that Lai Di fell on her own and are unwilling to spend money on her medical treatment. We don't know where to start if we want to help."

Captain Huang is right. If no one testifies against them, it will be useless even if the police are called. Yu Rujia is not a saint. If they don't stand up for themselves, she won't give up her own resources to support Lai Di just because a life is involved.

Yu Rujia is willing to help people, but only if they have the courage to fight for their own lives.

When she got home, the children were already asleep, and Gao Shujing sat under the eaves waiting for her.

Seeing the person come in, Gao Shujing got up, took the medicine box, carried it inside, put it where he usually kept it, and then came out and asked, "Rujia, what happened?"

Yu Rujia told him about the Huang family's affairs. Gao Shujing had grown up in a privileged environment and had never seen anything like this before, so he couldn't comment on it and didn't have the heart of a saint, so he changed the subject.

Gao Shujing: "Go take a nap. You'll be busy all afternoon. If you're sleepy, sleep a little longer. When someone comes, I'll have Duofu go and wake you up."

Yu Rujia takes a nap every noon, which lasts for two hours.

Sometimes, when Yu Rujia was still asleep, Duofu and the others would get up and go play somewhere else or go over to Gao Shujing's side to play.

Gao Shujing understood all of this, which is why he said those things.

Yu Rujia: "Okay, you go to sleep too."

It's become a habit; if she doesn't sleep at noon, she'll be listless all afternoon. If it weren't for the sudden incident at the Huang family's home, she would usually be asleep by now.
