Welcome to read Gu Zi's other works on Tomato Novel.
Yu Rujia goes to the Shangfen Brigade. Although conditions are limited, she has both the software and hardware.
Huddling in her ...
Captain Huang asked in bewilderment, "College students are so good, why did you stop?"
Gao Shujing did not elaborate: "Naturally, there are other concerns."
Captain Huang understood there must be a reason, so he didn't ask any further: "So, in the future, it will only be college students like you?"
Gao Shujing: "That should be the case, unless there are new changes in the future, but there definitely won't be any in the next few years."
Captain Huang thought he knew why various organizations were so fond of college students. There were only a handful of them, and he had never met many college students in his decades of life. How could he not be fond of them?
Considering Gao Shujing's abilities, Captain Huang couldn't understand why the college entrance examination had been suspended, but since things had come to this point, he could only devise a new plan for his own "big egg" (a metaphor for a potential future success).
Captain Huang: "Shujing, what do you think of my Dadan? He'll be fourteen soon, in the first year of junior high, can read, and is quite clever. How about I be your apprentice?"
I've met Gao Shujing, the big egg from Captain Huang's family, a few times. He's an honest man, completely unlike Captain Huang and Erdan, who are so lively. Plus, Captain Huang is a good person, so deepening our relationship with him would be beneficial for my family.
Gao Shujing: "He is a bit young, but he still has to go to junior high school. Does he have time to learn these things?"
Captain Huang affirmed, "He comes back around 4 PM every day, plus weekends and winter and summer vacations, so he has plenty of time. If he doesn't have enough time, he shouldn't go to middle school. His grades are average, and he might not even get into high school. His skills are more important."
It has to work out, even if it's not feasible. Now that the college entrance exam is over, the best path for graduates is to find a job in the city.
But jobs are hard to find. Huang Jingbei almost became someone's son-in-law just to get a job, and he only managed to get a temporary one. In order to get a permanent position, he almost sold his niece.
Even though he was the captain, he didn't think he had the ability to find a job for Da Dan.
Gao Shujing: "He still needs to go to school. If he has both a degree and a skill, it will be much easier for him to find a job after graduation than for someone without a skill."
"The power supply station is short-staffed. If Da Dan has this skill, when they recruit people there, let Da Dan give it a try. He has a high chance of being hired."
The power supply station is a state-owned enterprise. If my son gets a job there, he'll be walking on air.
They had visited the power supply station once, and Shen Yan, the head of the security department, had even made plans with him to go hunting together. If they made plans a few more times, their relationship would be considered official.
If my son can learn a few skills from Gao Shujing, he'll have a great chance of getting a job at the power supply station, which is much more reliable than finding a job right after graduating from high school.
Thinking of this, Captain Huang couldn't help but chuckle: "That's great, I'll have to trouble you with Da Dan. When we get back, I'll have him perform the apprenticeship ceremony for you. Feel free to assign him any tasks you need in the future."
Gao Shujing: "There's no rush for him to become my apprentice. I only know a little bit about it and can't teach him much. Let him learn from me first. We're going to connect electricity to other brigades soon, so we can take him with us and see if he can learn it."
Captain Huang: "If you can learn it, you definitely can." The job opportunity is right in front of you, so you have to learn it even if you can't.
Yu Rujia led a string of children into the vegetable garden and found that a lot of goosegrass was growing in the field. With the spirit-gathering array in place, the vegetables were growing exceptionally well and the grass was also growing vigorously.
Gao Shujing mostly took care of the vegetable garden. Although he often weeded, the weeds grew incredibly fast, even faster than the vegetables, and were impossible to eradicate. The goosegrass, in particular, changed drastically every night.
Looking at the lush green vegetables covering the ground, everyone wanted to eat them, but Duofu, unable to make up his mind, asked, "Auntie, what vegetables are we picking today?"
The vegetables, nourished by spiritual energy, were tender and delicious. Although the children loved meat, they ate plenty of vegetables as well.
Yu Rujia squatted down, picked up a few strands of goose intestine grass, and broke them off easily: "Auntie is going to make you a new dish. See this? This is called goose intestine grass. We're going to eat it today."
"You pick them like this, focusing on the tender parts at the top, discarding the ones touching the ground, understand?"
Goosegrass, also known as goose intestine vegetable, can be made into a cold dish by blanching it in boiling water, adding some cooked oil and seasonings. It is even more tender than pea shoots.
Duofu squatted down and broke off a few strands like Yu Rujia, then handed her the goose intestines: "Auntie, is this right?"
Yu Rujia: "Yes, Duofu is amazing. He learns it after just one lesson."
After teaching a few children, Yu Rujia was about to get up and move to another place when she saw Duoxi struggling with a small cabbage. Just as he was about to pull it down, Yu Rujia quickly spoke up to stop him.
Yu Rujia: "Duoxi, don't pull up the vegetables, or we won't have any to eat."
Upon hearing his name, Duoxi stopped what she was doing and said softly, "Help, Aunt."
Yu Rujia walked over and pulled him a few steps away from the vegetable garden: "Auntie thanks Duoxi, but Duoxi is still too young. How about he helps Auntie when he's a little older?"
He glanced at the children picking goosegrass and said, "Duolu, come and play with Duoxi, okay?"
Duolu is very active. After squatting down and pulling at the goose intestines for a few times, he lost interest in them because they were not yet edible. At nearly two years old, he no longer wanted to put new things in his mouth to taste them as he used to.
Moreover, knowing that vegetables need to be cooked before eating, he would never put them in his mouth.
Hearing Yu Rujia's call, the little guy stood up from the pile of dolls and walked towards her with his short legs: "Okay."
After handing Duoxi over to Duolu, Yu Rujia returned to the vegetable garden and joined Duofu and Duoshou in preparing goose intestine vegetables.
This looks like a lot, but once it comes into contact with boiling water, it loses much of its weight. Yu Rujia and her two children spent more than ten minutes picking a large basket full of goose intestines, along with a handful of freshly picked bok choy and celery. Yu Rujia then led the group of children back to the hand pump well.
Yu Rujia took a wooden bucket from the side, filled it with some water, washed the children's hands, and instructed them, "Duofu, you take your younger brothers inside to play. Auntie will wash the vegetables before we go back."
Duofu wanted to stay and help wash the vegetables, but when he caught sight of Duoxi making a mess in the vegetable basket, he gave up on washing the vegetables and grabbed Duoxi's chubby little hand that was causing trouble.
Duofu: "Duoxi, come on, your big brother will take you to play somewhere else."
Duolu was delighted to hear that they were having fun and wanted to join them. The group of children playfully walked towards the courtyard.
Without the mischievous kids around, Yu Rujia didn't have to worry about the little ones and quickly got to work.
When Rujia returned to the kitchen after washing the vegetables, Gao Guojing had already chopped more than half of the meat. Seeing that she had brought back goose intestines, she asked curiously, "Sister Rujia, what kind of dish is this? I don't think I've ever eaten it before."
Yu Rujia: "This is goose intestine vegetable. It's normal that you haven't eaten it before. Many people treat it as pig feed and feed it to chickens, ducks and pigs."
