Chicken feet delivery, what's not to like?
I glanced at Xiang Fei and Uncle Liu from Hunan, and neither of them said anything, so I nodded. "Alright, in that case, let's go and meet him. But if he has any ulterior motives, don't blame us for being impolite."
From what we saw at the police station, we knew that the boss behind my cousin must be someone with considerable influence and must have some ulterior motive for getting involved in this matter. Such people are the most dangerous because they operate behind the scenes, and as long as they have money, they don't have to worry about not having people willing to risk their lives for them.
Behind my cousin were three other cars, all worth hundreds of thousands of yuan. We all got in, and it was just the right size. My cousin led the way to the most luxurious hotel in the county. We went into a private room and saw several men with protruding bellies sitting inside.
One of them turned out to be our deputy county head. I didn't recognize the others, but they must be quite important. A middle-aged man wearing glasses, sitting in the center, stood up and said, "Welcome, esteemed masters. I am very honored."
As he spoke, he shook hands with us again. At this moment, the deputy county head stood up and said, "Come, let me introduce you. This is Mr. Zhang, the chairman of Sichuan Tianyu Group. He came to our county for inspection and also wanted to learn about Yin-Yang Feng Shui from some masters."
We were all quite surprised to hear the deputy county head say that; we hadn't expected him to be the chairman of Tianyu Group.
As we all know, Tianyu Group is a truly large conglomerate, ranking among the top ten in Sichuan. Their visit to our county clearly indicates their intention to invest, which is why the county attaches great importance to it. However, I suspect their purpose is not so simple; otherwise, they wouldn't have come in person for an investment project.
As the dinner began, Zhang Dongshi became very enthusiastic, toasting us and offering us cigarettes. "To be honest, a big reason for my success today is the guidance I received from a master back then. So ever since then, I have had a special belief in Yin-Yang and Feng Shui. Today, I have specially invited several masters to this banquet. Firstly, I want to express my respect for Yin-Yang and Feng Shui masters. Secondly, I want to learn from you all. In addition, I would like to ask you all for a favor."
When we heard about this offer of help, our hearts skipped a beat. "The fox's tail has been revealed."
"The story goes like this: Back in the Republic of China era, my grandfather returned from overseas and met a feng shui master. The two became old friends. By chance, my grandfather followed the feng shui master to rob a tomb. In the tomb, they saw many unbelievable and indescribable things. After my grandfather returned, he never forgot about it. Before he died, he entrusted us, his descendants, to help him fulfill a wish."
As he spoke, he stood up, took out a yellowed black-and-white photograph from his wallet, and handed it to me. "Master Liu, you should recognize that feng shui master in the picture, right?"
I took a closer look and my heart was immediately filled with emotion. "Isn't this my great-grandfather, the famous Mr. Liu from the Republic of China era, and the elder brother of my great-grandfather who passed away not long ago?"
I had a vague idea of what was going on. Chairman Zhang's grandfather was obviously the same person who knew my great-great-grandfather. I wondered which tomb they had robbed back then.
"Just tell me what kind of help you need," I said, handing the photo back to him.
"Hehe, I can't really explain it either. Anyway, my grandfather just told us to help him find a place to become an immortal, saying that one can live forever there. And this is related to the Shu Tomb. I heard about it before I came. Several masters have quite a connection with the Shu Tomb."
Xiang Fei and I exchanged glances, both of us thinking the same thing. "This matter has become even more complicated. Now even these high-ranking figures in society have gotten involved."
The deputy county head also said with a smile, "Gentlemen, you must do your best to help Chairman Zhang. Even if you don't think about yourselves, you must think about the county. With the investment from Tianyu Group, our county can truly develop."
"If you need anything, just tell the county. We will cooperate within our capabilities. And from now on, all your actions in entering the ancient tomb will be legal."
We can't refuse now. The deputy county head said that even if we don't think about ourselves, we have to think about the county. And from what he said, if we don't agree, if we go tomb raiding again and get caught, it probably won't be as simple as just a fine.
As the saying goes, "The common people can't fight with the officials." If we try to reason with them about the law, they'll act like thugs; if we act like thugs, they'll talk about the law. Either way, we can't win, so we have no choice but to agree. We're going to continue our pursuit anyway, and with official authorization, we're legal. Maybe if needed, the government can even clear the area—meaning only we're allowed to enter the Shu tomb, and anyone else who goes in gets arrested! Hehe! Why not?
Then the group of people 'happily' finished their meal, and the county's car took us back. The deputy county head even personally saw us off and sat with me.
"Teacher Liu, we're counting on you guys this time. Do you know how much Tianyu Group plans to invest in our county?"
"How much?" the old blind man next to him asked.
The deputy county head held up three fingers, his face filled with indescribable excitement.
"Three million, or thirty million?"
"No, it's 300 million! They plan to build two food production bases and help us develop tourism projects. If this goes through, our county will have no worries about development in the future. You masters must make this happen!"
I thought to myself, this might just be the beginning of a real storm. I wonder what the outcome will be?
Back in town, we heard that Zhuge Liang's tomb had been protected, archaeological experts had gone inside, and armed police were guarding it, making it very difficult for outsiders to get in. As for news of us going in first, it had been blocked.
