Chapter 197: Clues to the Desert Desolation and Mysterious Ruins

The plane plummeted rapidly amidst the raging sandstorm, and chaos erupted inside the cabin. Conan quickly regained his composure and shouted, "Everyone, don't panic! Follow the emergency escape procedures!" As he spoke, he rapidly checked that his seatbelt was fastened and made sure that Ran Mouri beside him was also properly secured.

The pilot struggled to control the plane, trying to find a relatively safe landing spot during the descent. The plane shook violently, and various equipment emitted piercing alarms. Lin Yu clung tightly to his precious high-tech equipment, Ai Haibara protected her head with her arms, and Nightshade vigilantly observed the surroundings, ready to deal with any emergencies.

Just as the plane was about to crash into the desert, the pilot found a relatively flat patch of sand. He pulled the control stick sharply, and the plane skimmed along the sand for a distance before finally coming to a stop. The fuselage was severely deformed from the impact and friction, and thick smoke billowed from every crevice.

"Is everyone alright?" Conan asked anxiously. Everyone responded, still somewhat shaken, but fortunately, no one was seriously injured.

"We need to get off the plane quickly; it could catch fire and explode at any moment," Nightshade said. Everyone quickly unbuckled their seatbelts and, led by Nightshade, struggled to squeeze out of the deformed cabin.

Shortly after they disembarked, the plane exploded, the massive shockwave sending up a cloud of dust. Conan and the others struggled to find shelter amidst the lingering dust and the impact of the explosion.

"There are some huge rocks over there, let's go hide there!" Ran Mouri shouted, pointing to a spot not far away. The group struggled forward in the fierce wind and finally found shelter behind the rocks. The sandstorm lasted for a while before gradually subsiding.

"Phew, we finally escaped a disaster," Lin Yu said, panting heavily. But they quickly realized that they were in the middle of a vast desert, facing multiple crises including lack of water, getting lost, and the ever-present threat of dark forces.

Conan quickly composed himself and began to think of a solution. "Let's take stock of our equipment and see what we still have that we can use," he said.

The group began checking their equipment. Fortunately, Lin Yu's small high-tech devices and communication equipment were mostly intact under his protection, Ai Haibara's first-aid kit was undamaged, and Conan, Ran Mouri, and Nightshade's basic survival tools were also still there.

“Although we’ve lost our plane, this equipment might help us survive in the desert and find that forgotten civilization,” Conan said, trying to encourage everyone.

"But we're in the desert now, and we have no idea which direction the ruins are in. How are we supposed to find them?" Ran asked with some concern.

Conan recalled the mysterious letter. Although it didn't explicitly point out the location of the ruins, it mentioned some vague clues. "The letter said it was a forgotten civilization. Perhaps we can look for some unusual geographical features or landmarks from ancient legends; maybe we can find some clues," Conan said.

Lin Yu activated his desert terrain detector, attempting to detect any anomalies in the terrain data. After a scan, the detector revealed a relatively complex terrain about fifty kilometers to their southeast, quite different from the surrounding flat desert landscape.

“This place looks suspicious. Maybe we can go check it out,” Lin Yu said, pointing to the detector’s screen.

The group decided to head southeast. The desert sun was scorching, its rays shining down without any obstruction, causing the ground temperature to rise rapidly. They hadn't walked long before everyone felt parched and exhausted.

"We need to conserve our energy and water. Following the desert survival skills we learned before, we should try to walk in the shade to reduce water evaporation," Conan reminded.

They moved slowly along the sand dunes, and Nightshade, with his keen observation skills, noticed some strange tracks. These tracks looked like they were left by some large creature or vehicle. "Could these tracks be related to the forces of darkness? Or clues leading to the ruins?" Nightshade asked.

Conan crouched down, carefully examining the marks. The marks were somewhat blurred, but judging from their shape and direction, they seemed to be extending in the direction they were going. "Anyway, if we follow these marks, we might find some clues," Conan said.

After trekking for several hours through the scorching desert, they finally arrived at the area indicated by Lin Yu's detector. The terrain here was indeed very peculiar, with huge rocks scattered about, some of which were carved with strange symbols and patterns.

“These symbols look ancient, unlike anything we’ve seen before,” Ai Haibara said. She took out a small analytical instrument and tried to decipher the meaning of the symbols.

Conan continued searching for clues around him when suddenly he found a tattered piece of cloth hidden in a crevice of a boulder. Embroidered on the cloth was a distinctive symbol that reminded Conan of descriptions of mysterious desert tribes he had read in ancient texts.

“I think we might have found the right place. This sign may be closely related to that forgotten civilization,” Conan said.

Just then, the roar of an engine came from afar. Conan and the others quickly hid behind the rocks and saw several SUVs driving towards them. Inside the vehicles sat a group of people dressed in black, their expressions cold and their presence exuding a dangerous aura.

"It's the forces of darkness; they've found their way here too," Conan said in a low voice.

The men in black got out of the car and began searching the surrounding area. They seemed to be looking for something as well, communicating via walkie-talkie as they searched. Conan and the others carefully hid behind the rocks, afraid to make a sound for fear of being discovered.
