Well-known educators don't need to introduce themselves in detail; their names alone carry significant weight. More time is devoted to rising stars in the field of education.
After Alina's presentation, it was Shen Tinghe's turn. She simplified the presentation, showcasing an experimental study she had personally participated in, which is also a well-known theory in child psychology.
In Piaget's four stages of cognitive development, children in the preoperational stage often experience difficulties with conservation. Their thinking is directly influenced by the salient features of perceived objects.
This was Shen Tinghe's first experiment. Before, she had only studied theory. After the experiment, she gained a deeper understanding of the cuteness and innocence of children in this age group.
The video shows a children's table with a cute little girl sitting beside her, and Shen Tinghe sitting opposite her. Before the formal experiment began, Shen Tinghe had already established a relatively close relationship with the little girl.
On the table were two rows of equal numbers of toy building blocks, all of uniform shape and neatly aligned. Then, Shen Tinghe gently asked, "Which row has more blocks?"
The little girl raised her chubby little hand and counted them one by one, pointing to the blocks one by one. "These two have the same number, five of each."
Then Shen Tinghe moved one of the rows of blocks to increase the spacing between them, and asked again, "Which one has more this time?"
The little girl hesitated for a moment, staring at Shen Tinghe. Shen Tinghe encouraged her with her eyes, signaling her to speak up. She pointed to the row of blocks whose distance had been increased.
When Shen Tinghe asked her why, she explained in a childish voice, gesturing with her hands to create a distance between the two ends of the outermost blocks, "This one needs to be bigger than this one." As she spoke, she gradually reduced the distance between her hands.
Perhaps the charm of experiments lies in allowing children to easily articulate answers that adults find perplexing, and in resolving the confusion in theoretical learning through their explanations.
This is the simplest experiment, takes very little time, and requires no prior preparation, yet it can directly reveal certain phenomena that exist not only in children.
The presentations flowed quickly. Shen Tinghe stepped off the stage, walked lightly, and bent over as she returned to her seat. When she looked up again, she saw Chen Rancheng standing on the periphery, watching her tap her ear before his gaze fell on the headset on the table.
She had taken off the headset she was wearing when she went on stage to present, but put it back on after seeing Chen Rancheng's gesture. In her mind, she kept asking him questions.
When did he arrive?
What is he doing here?
Chen Rancheng, who was in sight, opened his mouth, but the distant voice came through the electrical current in his earpiece, "Call me when it's time to eat."
Shen Tinghe's pupils widened in shock. Had he gone mad? Her ears instantly burned, and she removed the headset as if afraid of being burned, as if afraid that others would know that the words were spoken to her. She turned her head to look at the stage, not at him, and slowly moved her hand to her cheek to cover it.
The phone was placed face down on the table on silent mode. Shen Tinghe disliked vibration and had turned off the phone's built-in vibration. When the phone was on silent, she wouldn't hear any messages unless she picked it up to check.
The phone screen, which was lying face down on the table, lit up and then lit up again, but Shen Tinghe was completely unaware.
As the meeting drew to a close around noon, everyone moved to a room next to the reception room where a buffet was prepared. Only then did Shen Tinghe have a chance to glance at her phone.
Three missed calls, all from the same place: the police station.
Shen Tinghe quickly called back. The person on the other end said that the thief who stole her wallet had been caught red-handed after committing the crime again, and her ID documents had been found. She thanked him and said she could come and pick them up in the afternoon if she had time.
"Your documents have just been taken away."
"Took it?"
Then she remembered Chen Rancheng's strange behavior. She had filled in his phone number, but she couldn't get through to him. She probably called him instead, which meant she knew about it.
Chen Rancheng never answered unfamiliar numbers on his private phone. When he saw the police station's number, a possibility flashed through his mind, and he answered it. Sure enough, it was just as he had thought.
He asked Shi Yu to go to the police station to pick up her identification documents, and then he called her. But then he thought, if she could get through on her phone, why would the police station call him?
Thinking of the earpiece she was wearing, he found the staff member in charge of planning and coordination and asked if they had any earpieces that could be used to contact people individually. The coordinator looked bewildered, not knowing why this diplomat was asking her this, but still, feeling pressured, he found him a switchboard.
Chen Rancheng looked at the headset in his hand, at a loss for what to do; he didn't know how to use it.
The young woman in charge noticed his embarrassment and asked him who he wanted to talk to so she could help him adjust the device. When she heard him mention the name of the pretty international student from earlier, a surprised and gossipy feeling crept into her heart, but she calmly helped him adjust the device.
I glanced at him a few times out of the corner of my eye and saw that he looked completely at ease. Perhaps I was wrong.
Shen Tinghe had absolutely no intention of contacting Chen Rancheng during dinner; it would be too obvious. As for her wallet, she didn't believe that a respectable diplomat would refuse to give it to her when he had her identification.
Perhaps because the exchange meeting had ended successfully and she felt relaxed, Shen Tinghe was extremely hungry. She got up early in the morning and took the bread she had bought earlier with her when she went out. After taking a bite, she found that it had been sitting out for too long and the taste had gone bad.
The buffet had a good selection of dishes, including Chinese food that is ridiculously expensive in Paris. Shen Tinghe ordered a bowl of noodles with soybean paste, chicken soup, salt and pepper shrimp, and steamed egg custard, which filled half the table.
She highly recommended picking up a piece of noodles with her chopsticks and gesturing to Alina, "It's delicious, you should try it." Alina took the empty plate, but since she didn't know how to use chopsticks, she took a bite with her fork instead.
"How is it?" She carefully tasted it, and an approving expression gradually appeared on her face. These dark noodles were actually quite delicious.
Shen Tinghe also took a bite, and shook her head at the aroma, saying it would be even better with another clove of garlic.
