Shang Wu was known in circles for having a great life.
When she was down and out, the Cheng Zhou Crown Prince pulled her out of the abyss, doting on and protecting her, unwilling to let her s...
Hospital.
Yan Yue stood behind Shang Wu and sent a message on his phone.
[Lu Rang is allergic to alcohol; please come to the Third Hospital immediately.]
After he finished distributing the water, he handed it over.
"Miss Shang, would you like a drink?"
Shang Wu snapped out of her daze, took a sip of water, her throat dry.
She had also drunk some alcohol, less than two ounces. Normally, this would have made her dizzy, but upon hearing that Lu Rang might be in trouble, she became more sober than if she had slept all night.
Shang Wu unscrewed the bottle cap, then screwed it back on. "Is Lu Rang's condition very serious?"
Yan Yue's usual carefree attitude was gone.
His eyes flickered, and he touched his nose. "I don't know about that. I only know that on his first day at Dingfeng, the old director told him that he couldn't drink alcohol. As for the allergic reaction and the rash, that's what he said himself. I've never seen it."
Shang Wu gripped the water bottle tightly, sat down, and stared at the closed door of the emergency room.
She was really bad at understanding people's hearts; her inability to judge people was arguably the most fatal flaw in her life.
But everything that happened tonight led Shang Wu to a firm and unquestionable judgment—Lu Rang is a good person, and Lu Rang cares about her.
Soon, the medical staff came out.
Shang Wu and Yan Yue went to greet them.
The doctor removed his mask, his expression grave: "Mr. Lu is not in mortal danger, but his allergy symptoms are too severe. Ordinary anti-allergy medications are no longer effective; he needs a blocking agent."
Shang Wu's heart tightened: "Then..."
The doctor interrupted her: "But, the Lincheng medical system does not have this kind of blocking drug. If the blocking drug cannot be found within three hours, Mr. Lu's red rash will turn into erythema that will never go away."
Shang Wu squeezed the water bottle until it was deformed: "Where can I find the blocking medication? I'll figure something out."
"Currently, there is a type of blocking drug called coral alcohol, which is stored at minus 80 degrees Celsius and is only available in some medical laboratories."
This stuff isn't available in Lincheng, and we need to find a medical lab. It also needs to be stored below freezing, so there's no way we can get it in three hours.
Shang Wu was extremely anxious: "Doctor, please think again, is there any other way?"
The doctor pondered for a moment: "There is also the Jiuyang Dan of traditional Chinese medicine, which is said to cure all poisons. It was very famous in the 1980s and was more valuable than gold at the time. Now it is only treasured by some large families."
Shang Wu pursed her red lips, her eyes flashing with a complex expression: "Yan Yue, you stay here and guard this place. I'll get it back within two hours, no, within one hour."
She glanced at the emergency room.
Lu Rang lay on the emergency table, his face flushed an unnatural red.
She owes him; she is saved.
Yan Yue's expression changed, and he quickly stopped her: "Miss Shang, actually..."
Shang Wu frowned: "What?"
Yan Yue hesitated for a moment, scratched his head, and simply gave up: "Don't worry too much, Lu Rang's condition might improve later, and he might not even need to take medicine."
Shang Wu nodded, taking it as a consolation.
Just as she reached the elevator, a man in black suddenly emerged from it, his expression cold and stern, carrying an antique-looking black wooden box in his hand.
Shang Wu almost bumped into him, and stepped back to avoid him.
Upon seeing her, the man gave her a sinister look, his gaze filled with undisguised hostility.
Shang Wu felt completely bewildered and hurriedly left after entering the elevator.
The man arrived at the emergency room door and handed the box to Yan Yue.
Yan Yue quickly took the box into the house, fed Lu Rang the medicine, and then came out.
He smiled ingratiatingly: "Less than fifteen minutes, that's incredibly fast!"
The man, expressionless, questioned, "The master asked you to look after things at the law firm, and this is how you've done it?"
Yan Yue shrank back slightly after being scolded by him: "How was I supposed to know he could drink?"
The man then asked, "Is it because of that woman from earlier, the fallen heiress of the Zhou family after the business went bankrupt?"
Yan Yue's expression changed slightly, and he quickly waved his hand: "No, no, no! It has nothing to do with her. They are just business partners. Lu Rang wouldn't drink for anyone easily. This was just an accident!"
He spoke quickly and urgently, afraid that the other party would misunderstand: "Besides, you always keep medicine on hand. If there were no PEP medication, how could Lu Rang dare to touch alcohol?"
The man stared intently at Yan Yue, his eyes dark and deep, carrying an unspoken sense of oppression.
A few seconds later, he spoke: "He abandoned his family's tradition to pursue law, and you let him go. You just wanted him to have a different way of life, but that doesn't mean you can take any case."
"There won't be a next time we drink together."
Yan Yue swallowed hard, his whole body tense: "Understood..."
The man turned and left before he could finish speaking.
Yan Yue watched his back as he walked into the elevator before his legs went weak and he collapsed to the ground.
After a while, he finally got up and went into the ward, shaking the unconscious Lu Rang awake.
"Your manager is terrifying! Lu let you be the hero and have your fun! You're going to get me killed!"
Lu Rang frowned slightly and slowly opened his eyes.
He glanced at Yan Yue, then looked outside the door.
"And her?"
Yan Yue breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that he was awake: "I'm going to try to get you some medicine. Big brother, can we not play like this in the future? Do you know that Qian Jue came in person just now!"
"It happened so suddenly." Lu Rang reached out and pressed Yan Yue down, using the support to sit up. The red rash on his body was slowly fading.
He closed his eyes to ease his discomfort and, unusually patiently explained, "I thought things would go smoothly, but I didn't expect to have to drink alcohol."
Yan Yue laughed angrily: "Didn't expect that? Miss Shang told me that you were helping her fend off the drinks. What could happen to her if she drank a pound of liquor? At most, she'd get drunk, vomit, and have an upset stomach. But what about you? How could you be so carefree? Why are you so concerned about her?"
He spoke with resentment, still lingering fear from Qianjue's warning.
Lu Rang looked at him without saying a word.
Yan Yue knew he didn't like hearing this, so he got up and poured him a glass of water.
