Lin Yue never imagined she'd randomly marry a man she met less than a day before after graduating college.
Ever since she turned 18, her mother went all out introducing her to different m...
“Yunxi…”
A flicker of panic crossed Xu Muyao's eyes. Just as he was hesitating whether to get out of the car, Yunxi impatiently knocked on the car window.
Xu Muyao calmed his restless heart, his breathing became slightly heavy, and he didn't dare to delay for a moment before quickly opening the door and getting out of the car.
He looked somewhat haggard because of his illness.
He scratched his head awkwardly, burying it in his arms, the bones in his wrists protruding too noticeably, and said softly, "Long time no see."
This is the first time I've seen him since that incident with Hailan Mingxuan, and he looks incredibly thin.
Yunxi felt a sudden pang of pain in her heart, her bright pupils contracted sharply, but she quickly regained her composure.
“Your wife came to see me last time.”
The word "wife" made Xu Muyao pause for a moment. After he came to his senses, he frowned and asked in a deep voice, "What does she want with you?"
Yunxi chuckled and shook her head. "She probably came specifically to tell me that you're sick. But I've already told her that I'll cover all your medical expenses. If you encounter any difficulties in your life in the future, you can come to me for help. It's my honor to be able to do something within my power for the people's hero."
The resentment in her heart was acting up again, making her restless and forcing her to say these barbed words to provoke him.
After she finished speaking, she stared intently at him, not missing a single emotion on his face.
However, Xu Muyao's expression remained calm, his eyes lowered, seemingly lost in thought. He didn't speak, his index finger constantly rubbing the thick calluses on the web of his hand.
Seeing that he remained silent, Yunxi felt an inexplicable annoyance. She gave a self-deprecating smile, reached into her bag, pulled out a bank card, and handed it to him.
"Here you go. I didn't get her contact information last time, but I happened to run into you today, so I'll just give it to you."
Xu Muyao's fingertips trembled suddenly. After a long while, he slowly raised his head, stared at her for two seconds, and then quickly turned his head away. "No need, I have money."
Yunxi pulled her arm back from mid-air, her mocking smile growing even stronger.
"That's true. Officer Xu is never short of money; he only earns and never spends."
She's never been one to be dramatic. If you refuse, she won't force you. Just like with relationships, if you're the one who lets go first, no matter the reason, there's no going back.
"What are you doing here? Don't tell me you waited for me here on purpose?"
Yunxi didn't know why she asked the question, and there was a hint of expectation in her words that she herself didn't realize.
Xu Muyao paused for a moment, then shook his head. "No, I just happened to be passing by."
Yunxi smiled with relief, her fingers clenched into fists, her nails digging deep into the tender flesh of her palms, yet she felt nothing.
Her breathing became slightly heavy, and she raised her head, flashing a standard professional smile.
"Okay, I'll be going now if there's nothing else. You... take care of yourself."
After saying that, she turned around and left, her hair flying in the wind, and walked into Chengye Building without looking back.
Back in the office, I looked up and saw crescent-shaped marks all over my palms; if I pressed any harder, they would bleed.
She moved to the French windows and looked down; that gradually unfamiliar figure was still standing there...
In a flash, it was as if I were seeing him back in high school, always standing downstairs at her house every day, waiting for her...
With my eyes closed, I can vaguely recall his cheerful laughter from that year, and how she sat behind him on his bicycle, her long hair flowing and her skirt billowing in the wind.
He said: Yunxi, I'll take you to eat something delicious.
She said: Okay.
He said: After we finish eating, I'll take you to a nice place.
She said: Okay.
He said: You didn't even ask where you're going, aren't you afraid I'll sell you?
She laughed and said, "Don't worry, I can even help you count the money."
That year, they were seventeen; now, they are thirty…
"Tap tap tap..."
A crisp knock on the door pulled her back from her reverie.
She wiped her eyes, turned around, and said, "Come in."
As I turned around, my peripheral vision involuntarily fell upon the empty street below...
"Boss, these documents need your signature." Zheng Yu placed the documents on his desk.
"Okay, put it here for now, I'll call you in after I've looked at it."
Zheng Yu glanced at his boss's reddened eyes, hesitated for a moment, opened his mouth as if to say something, then said "okay" and left the office.
Yunxi turned on her phone screen and looked at the lock screen picture. Her chaotic thoughts seemed to clear up instantly. She took a deep breath, her brows and eyes gradually relaxed, and she picked up the documents to start working.
...
The gloomy weather that started early in the morning has finally turned to rain. The drizzle gently caresses the willows, and the tender green leaves dance merrily in the rain, adding a touch of brightness to spring.
In the misty rain, the lights on the threshold of Yunfang Tavern are blurred, and pushing open the door reveals another world.
Rong Youze pushed a glass of juice in front of Xu Muyao and asked, "Can you drink this?"
He originally intended to go to Chengye to find Yunxi, but as soon as he got out of the car, he saw Xu Muyao. Between men, there is no need for many words; a single glance is enough for them to understand each other.
Xu Muyao reached out and touched the rim of the glass, nodded and smiled, "Thank you, you're still as meticulous as ever."
"Why did you lie to her?" Rong Youze asked bluntly, getting straight to the point.
The tavern has a quiet and elegant atmosphere, with a subtle aroma of alcohol and smoky wood filling the air, making people feel relaxed.
Xu Muyao leaned back in his sofa chair, his sharp, hawk-like eyes seemingly glancing around casually. Due to his profession, he subconsciously scrutinized everyone who entered the bar.
After a long silence, he slowly spoke: "I am a dying man, I should not waste her time any longer. I have wasted too much of her time."
