Chapter 28
Yokohama's Guidance
After a pleasant walk along the river, Fuyuki bid farewell to Dazai Osamu and then went to explore other places. The world was progressing well, and the mission was nearing completion.
She is now carefully observing the Yokohama sunshine, the Yokohama streets, and the Yokohama houses.
Having been in this world for so long, Fuyuki has only been active in a small area, and she's always busy taking the lives of her mission targets at various times, so she hasn't had the time to observe them closely.
Yokohama is beautiful in many ways. It is a city that many people are determined to protect, racking their brains for it, and setting aside their differences for it. All conflicts can be temporarily set aside in the face of Yokohama.
"Yokohama is beautiful."
A gentle breeze caressed the winter tree's cheek, and I felt happy because of this sentence.
Winter Tree stretched out its arms and felt the warm embrace that was riddled with holes.
Her dark eyes narrowed happily, her small body completely enveloped in his embrace. The wind that occasionally swept past her lifted her long hair and gently brushed against her cheek.
Dongshu blinked. A leaf moved purposefully forward, driven by the wind. She followed and took a few steps. It was a narrow passageway where she could see dappled light coming through from the opposite side.
Turning to the side and straightening himself up, Dongshu cautiously followed the fluttering leaves with a tense expression.
After passing through the corridor, the path suddenly opened up into a bright and clear one. Ye Zi stopped at a spot, curiously stepped forward, held onto the wall in front of her, leaned out, and cautiously opened her big, dark eyes to examine the area.
The silver-haired samurai tentatively reached out a small dried fish towards the cat in front of him, his solemn expression revealing a hint of trepidation.
The kitten looked to be a few months old; it was trembling all over, as if it were about to run away at any moment.
Fuyuki glanced at the samurai, and a name suddenly popped into his mind.
—President.
She tilted her head, puzzled. "President, what club?"
"Meow—!" While lost in thought, the cat meowed and suddenly ran away. Its short legs darted about, almost leaving a blur as it fled from the human who exuded a sharp aura.
"Meow..." Looking down at the little guy who had bumped into his leg and wouldn't get up, Dongshu bent down and picked it up, gently using his spiritual power to soothe the cat's frightened emotions.
Stroking its fur and scratching its chin, the cat purred contentedly with its eyes narrowed. When Fuyuki looked up, she saw Fukuzawa Yukichi with an expressionless face. Strangely, she saw envy in this man with his sharp aura.
Fuyuki walked up to him carrying the cat, tiptoed and handed the quiet little creature to him: "Hold it."
Fukuzawa Yukichi hesitated before gently taking the fish. After noticing that the cat did not suddenly attack when it approached him, he tentatively offered the dried fish to its mouth again.
Seeing the cat hesitate for a moment before opening its mouth and biting down, Fuyuki seemed to see a moment of bright sunshine in him. She blinked, and all she could see was the man gently holding the cat she was touching for the first time.
"It likes you very much." Fuyuki smiled sweetly. Was this the cat-loving person Yokohama wanted to introduce her to?
Fukuzawa Yukichi knew that it must have been something this suddenly appeared child did that made the cat stay obediently in his arms. In the past, whether it was a kitten or an adult cat, it would run away quickly when he approached.
From this perspective, the kitten only hissed at him when he was so close, which means it wasn't afraid of him.
Facing the little girl who had fulfilled his obsession with cats, his blue eyes revealed gentleness, though his expression remained largely unchanged as usual: "Thank you."
Seeing that he had noticed, Dongshu blinked and gave a shy smile: "You're welcome."
Fukuzawa Yukichi gently stroked the cat in his arms and instructed, "Are you an ability user? Don't show your special abilities to strangers."
He saw the short knife under the girl's oversized coat, but her fair, calloused hands clearly indicated that she had never practiced with a knife.
Perhaps realizing that his words had a didactic tone, he added, "Children need to protect themselves."
Fukuzawa Yukichi paused after speaking.
Sensing the almost unequivocal concern, Fuyuki nodded: "I will, thank you."
She introduced herself: "My name is Fuyuki."
Fukuzawa Yukichi nodded and replied, "Fukuzawa Yukichi."
“Fukuzawa…” Fuyuki murmured, her eyes momentarily lost in thought, a wave of familiarity washing over her as the images flashed before her eyes, too fast to capture.
After saying goodbye to Fukuzawa Yukichi, Fuyuki took a few steps and saw the familiar leaf again. The leaf swayed left and right and circled around her twice before continuing to move forward with a purpose.
Catching the falling leaves with both hands, Dongshu looked around in confusion.
It's a park, but there aren't many people here.
"I'm here!" The boy bent down and brought his face close to Fuyuki's, his bright green eyes sparkling behind his glasses. "I'm Edogawa Ranpo, hello there!"
Fuyuki looked at him in surprise: "Hello."
She compared their ages and pronounced the boy's name in a clear, crisp voice: "Edogawa-kun."
"I am Fuyuki."
"Yes, yes." Edogawa Ranpo nodded heavily, straightened up, and coolly pushed up his black half-rimmed glasses: "You came to see me, huh? Okay, whatever you want to ask, I can answer you now."
Dongshu blinked and gathered the leaves in her hands: "Question? I don't have any questions."
His eyes narrowed: "Huh? You're kidding! There are obvious signs of doubt everywhere!"
"I'm a famous detective! There's nothing I can't see through."
Upon hearing this, Fuyuki's eyes lit up, revealing a look of admiration: "A detective? That's amazing!"
"Not a detective! A famous detective! You're so stupid!" Edogawa Ranpo suddenly puffed out his cheeks in anger.
“Yes, a famous detective!” Fuyuki nodded, mimicking his earlier action.
That's such a wonderful personality.
After chatting for a long time with the famous detective who wanted to answer questions that even Fuyuki himself didn't know the answers to, Fuyuki's mood became cheerful again.
Their relationship quickly grew closer, and she stood on tiptoe to wave, "Goodbye! Ranpo-san!"
"Ah, goodbye, you idiot."
Hearing the strange address, Fuyuki wasn't angry; instead, she smiled with narrowed eyes.
At this moment, the leaf that had been placed in the pocket struggled to fly out and began its guiding action again.
Fuyuki skipped and hopped all the way, and now she's starting to wonder who will be next.
As I turned the corner, I saw the familiar blonde girl standing there with her hands behind her back, her red dress swaying in the wind. She was enough to attract attention just by standing there.
"Alice-chan?" Fuyuki exclaimed in surprise, as she hadn't seen Alice in a long time.
Alice turned around at the sound of the voice, and the moment she saw Fuyuki, she was filled with joy: "Fuyuki-chan! I'm so glad to see you!"
She nestled into Dongshu's arms like a joyful little bird, lowering her head slightly to press her face against his, her azure eyes filled with happiness.
Alice took Fuyuki's hand, and their two small hands clasped together, looking exceptionally intimate.
Alice's smile was as sweet as honey: "Fuyuki-chan, would you like to come to my house to play?"
