Episode 68 (Final Chapter)

Time flies. More than half a year has passed since Zhou Yun became Fang Chengjin's graduate student. February 14th is approaching, and Lunar New Year's Eve is just around the corner.

Hong Kong Island was also celebrating the Lunar New Year, with red lanterns hanging everywhere in the streets, making red the dominant color. The winter break had already begun on campus, but the library was still packed with people reading and doing homework, including Zhou Yun.

Zhou Yun, with her hair in a bun, stared at the annotations on her computer screen with a troubled expression: "Logical inconsistencies, revise again."

Zhou Yun clenched her fist, an unspeakable displeasure about to burst forth.

Her phone vibrated; it was her beloved teacher, Professor Fang.

Zhou Yun suppressed her temper and answered the call.

What are the plans for tonight?

Fang Chengjin's voice sounded cheerful, and there were sounds of car horns in it, making it sound like he was on the street.

Zhou Yun said, word by word: "Revise, the, essay!"

The tone was so forceful it was as if to say, "If you had approved my application, I wouldn't be stuck here in this miserable state."

A helpless sigh came from the other end of the phone.

Come to my house tonight.

Before he could finish speaking, Fang Chengjin called from the other end.

"I'll teach you how to correct it tonight."

Zhou Yun retracted her previous statement, "I don't want to spend the night so boringly, of course I still hope to be with my lovely and respectable mentor!"

After hanging up the phone, Zhou Yun quickly packed up her computer and then left the library.

Other people seem to have special privileges when dating their mentors, but why does she seem to be taking this relationship so seriously?

Can't Fang Chengjin be a little more reasonable?

Zhou Yun felt a dull ache in her heart.

Zhou Yun bought some fruit, then went to the clothing store to pick up the New Year's gift she had ordered long ago, and then took a taxi to the villa area.

As soon as the car arrived at the door, the driver said, "Happy New Year!"

Zhou Yun replied, then closed the car door, looked at the open villa gate, and went inside.

When Zhou Yun reached the third floor, she saw Fang Chengjin busy in the kitchen. Her eyes lit up when she saw that Fang Chengjin was wearing a soft home dress and a cute pink apron.

"Rest and have some fruit first. I'm frying steak; it'll be ready soon," Fang Chengjin said, glancing at her.

Zhou Yun said curiously, "Your apron is quite cute."

Fang Cheng remained expressionless: "Lin Long sent it. I wasn't planning to accept it, but he insisted it was a New Year's gift. In return, I gave him a lovely gift in return."

At this point, Fang Chengjin seemed to be deliberately keeping everyone in suspense and stopped talking.

Zhou Yun leaned closer, "What is it?"

Fang Cheng gave an irrelevant answer: "How well-done do you like your steak?"

Zhou Yun raised an eyebrow: "About 70%."

"Go back to the sofa and wait."

Zhou Yun had no choice but to leave the kitchen. She went to the desk by the window and found some blueprints on the table. She picked one up and saw that it turned out to be an opened envelope.

This is not an ordinary envelope; there is a "+" sign in the icon at the top left of the letter.

Zhou Yun frowned; she seemed to have seen this mark somewhere before.

Before she could think it through, Fang Chengjin took the envelope from behind her.

"Don't look around."

Silence fell upon Fang Cheng, who carefully placed the envelope under the books.

Zhou Yun looked up, her eyes filled with worry: "I remember now, the chef's uniform that the housekeeper at the guesthouse wore had this mark on it. I only glanced at it at the time and thought it was their brand logo. Have they come looking for you again?"

Fang Chengjin hugged Zhou Yun tightly and gently patted her back. "It's alright. They didn't come. They just sent a letter."

After a long pause, he didn't continue.

Zhou Yun asked, "What did the letter say?"

Fang Chengjin spoke up: "The provocation against me is basically that I failed to detect the two of them in this case, allowing them to escape, so they wrote a letter to swagger at me."

"So what are you going to do next?"

Fang Cheng touched Zhou Yun's cheeks with both hands and said with pity, "Because of you, you have now become my weakness. I will be afraid, but I will not back down."

Zhou Yun grasped his hand. "Fang Chengjin, I'm not afraid either. I will fight alongside you against criminals until the very end."

In the years since her sister was murdered and she became a detective, she has come to see life and death in a new light. Fighting against the forces of darkness has become a habit for her, so they are kindred spirits.

The equation is approached cautiously, head bowed and back bent.

A kiss gently landed on her fair forehead.

Happy New Year, Zhou Yun.

Happy New Year, Fang Chengjin.

Three hours ago.

Fang Chengjin was reading a book on the sofa when the doorbell rang downstairs. He closed his book and glanced at the time.

At this hour, Zhou Yun is still reading in the library, so it couldn't be her. Who could it be?

Fang Chengjin got up, walked to the window, opened it, and peered down.

Standing outside the villa was a courier named Lao Zhao. Lao Zhao was over fifty years old and was the courier who delivered packages in this area.

"Mr. Fang, there's an urgent letter for you!" Old Zhao waved to Fang Chengjin.

Fang Chengjin picked up the remote control and opened the door. Old Zhao came upstairs from downstairs, then went to the second floor and handed the letter to Fang Chengjin.

Upon seeing the familiar logo, Fang Chengjin's right eye twitched. "Who sent you this letter?"

Old Zhao scratched his head: "This address is from overseas. We are just here to receive it; the sender hasn't come over."

Fang Chengjin didn't say anything and let Lao Zhao leave.

Turning around, Fang Cheng carefully placed the envelope on the table.

The scent of photinia flowers was faint, along with a slight burnt smell.

Fang Cheng knew that this was Ah K's way of putting him in a difficult position.

Fang Chengjin, with a cold face, lit a lighter and burned the card directly. The ashes fell into the ashtray, and Fang Chengjin held the envelope under his nose and sniffed it.

After a while, he placed the envelope on the table, tapped the surface with his fingers, and seemed to be deep in thought.

At the international airport, tourists came and went, their faces and skin tones varied. A black van pulled up at the airport entrance. A tall, handsome young man got out first, followed by a middle-aged man with slightly graying hair.

The young man walked ahead, dressed in a bespoke suit, a far cry from his casual demeanor at the guesthouse. This was Ah K. Beside him was the butler, whose face always wore a friendly, welcoming smile; a plus sign still adorned his sleeve.

The butler announced, "The letter has been delivered to Professor Fang's home." His gaze swept over the passing tourists, observing the surroundings.

Ah K chuckled, "He's been a pawn that the higher-ups have been planning for over a decade. This is the first time I've met him since I came back, and I'm very satisfied. His compatibility with our drugs is excellent, and even without his sense of smell, his individual abilities are outstanding."

The two walked briskly and easily, looking like they were discussing business to anyone who didn't know them.

The two arrived at the waiting room and, without waiting, were directly led through the VIP lane by the ground staff.
