Lu Linchuan looked at him, his eyes devoid of their former respect, filled only with cold disappointment: "Brigadier Zheng, you should ask your good daughter what she did to my pregnant wife. She almost killed my wife and my unborn child!"

Commander Zheng was struck dumb, looking at Zheng Nana in disbelief.

"Dad! Help me! I didn't! Su Wantang fell down by accident, it has nothing to do with me! Lu Linchuan is making false accusations!" Zheng Nana cried out for help.

"Whether it's slander or not, let the military security department handle it." Lu Linchuan finished speaking, then turned and left without another glance at the father and daughter. His voice was icy cold, devoid of any warmth. "I'm making this clear today: I will not let this go. No amount of pleading will help!"

Zheng Nana was taken away. Looking at Lu Linchuan's resolute back, Commander Zheng seemed to age ten years in an instant.

The smell of disinfectant permeated the air, cold and pungent, like an invisible needle piercing deep into Su Wantang's memory.

The door to the ward was gently pushed open.

Zhao Jing, Sun Xiulian, and Zheng Juan carefully walked in, carrying net bags of apples and a can of malted milk powder.

"Wantang, you're finally awake!" Zhao Jing rushed to the bedside, her eyes instantly reddening. "You scared us to death!"

Sun Xiulian put the things on the bedside table and sighed, "Yes, what a mess! Thank goodness you're alright."

Su Wantang tried to smile, but the movement aggravated her wounds, causing her to gasp in pain. Her face was as pale as paper, her lips bloodless, only her eyes remained bright, though veiled by a layer of mist.

"I'm fine, I'm sorry to have worried you." Her voice was soft and a little hoarse.

Zheng Juan lagged behind, head down, hands twisting the hem of her clothes, not daring to look at Su Wantang.

"Sister Wantang..." she finally mustered her courage, her voice barely audible, "I'm sorry... If you hadn't stood up for me last time, Zheng Nana wouldn't have held a grudge and hurt you... It's all my fault..."

Upon hearing this name, the ward fell silent instantly.

Su Wantang's expression was cold.

It turns out that Zheng Nana was behind this.

Su Wantang shook her head and said to Zheng Juan, "Xiao Juan, this has nothing to do with you, you don't need to apologize. Before you came to the island, Zheng Nana and I had a grudge. Even if it wasn't you, Zheng Nana would have attacked me."

"This person is absolutely wicked!" Sun Xiulian exclaimed angrily. "How can there be such a vicious person in this world! He should be locked up for life, so he won't go out and harm others in the future!"

Zhao Jing sighed: "Commander Lu has been keeping watch outside these past two days without closing his eyes. When we arrived, we saw him going to get you some hot water; he'll probably be back soon."

The door was pushed open again.

A tall figure stood against the light at the doorway, blocking out half the light in the ward.
