Chapter 7: Pursuers are coming!! (Playing my wife!!)

Startled by this sudden turn of events, Su Yue froze and looked up. She saw a tall, slender figure standing against the dim light from outside the door, tightly gripping a dark gun barrel pointed directly at her forehead.

The man was tall and muscular, his military uniform stained with large patches of blood that were slowly spreading from his shoulders, clearly indicating he was seriously injured. His face was indistinct in the shadows, but the chilling aura emanating from him was enough to freeze the air.

Her heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively wanted to retaliate, but the man was faster than her.

He practically rushed over, grabbing her wrist with such force that she stumbled before she could even struggle.

"Help me!" His voice was low and hoarse, with a hint of urgency. "There are pursuers outside. Pretend to be my wife!"

Before he finished speaking, he had already half-dragged, half-pulled Su Yue to the bedside, and then quickly pounced on her. He yanked the large blanket up, covering their figures.

Caught off guard, Su Yue felt a soft blanket tightly envelop her, and her nostrils were immediately filled with a strong smell of blood and the masculine scent of a man, a mixture of gunpowder and sweat. In the darkness, she could feel the man's heavy breathing right next to her ear, hot and rapid.

Footsteps and noisy voices could be faintly heard outside the door, as if someone was rapidly approaching.

"Hurry!" The man abruptly sat up, placing one hand on Su Yue's side. Despite trembling from his injuries, he maintained a bent-over position, enveloping her beneath him. Fine beads of sweat glistened on his forehead, his face appearing even paler in the dim light, his lips tightly pressed together, thin and sharp as a knife. He urged with his eyes, his voice extremely low, as if he might breathe his last at any moment: "Make a sound!"

Make a sound?

Su Yue was stunned for a moment, then realized what he meant. This man wanted her to "fake"!

The people outside sounded like they were there to search the room. If a "good show" was actually taking place inside, those self-proclaimed upright soldiers or revolutionary masses probably wouldn't even give it a second glance.

She felt a little embarrassed, but the situation was beyond her control. This was a living, breathing life, and... her unmarried husband whom she had never even met.

Suppressing the strange feeling in her heart, she held her breath and quietly raised her hand to wrap around his lean waist. His waist was very strong, seemingly containing boundless power, yet it was trembling slightly. Su Yue understood; the injuries were much more serious than she had imagined.

She gently pinched his waist with her fingertips, and the man groaned and stiffened.

"Mmm...uh..."

Su Yue let out a low moan, her voice soft and delicate, yet carrying a perfectly balanced sense of suppressed desire and unbearable unease. To make it more realistic, she even turned her head slightly, burying her face in the blanket, making her voice sound even more indistinct and suggestive.

The man's breathing became heavier, seemingly surprised by Su Yue's cooperation. His body tensed, almost instinctively wanting to respond, but he knew he couldn't show any weakness at this moment.

The footsteps outside the door grew closer, and the sound of leather shoes creaking on the floor stopped right outside her door.

"Old Wang, is someone inside?" a rough voice rang out.

"It sounds like..." another voice hesitated, "This...this voice..."

An eerie silence fell outside the door.

Su Yue buried her head even deeper and pinched the man's side again, this time with a little more force.

The man couldn't help but let out a low growl, his voice sounding strained and strained, as if he had suppressed it to the extreme. He pressed down heavily, as if he would flatten Su Yue in the next second.

"Oh dear!" The rough voice suddenly rose in pitch, "Get out of here! This is truly... indecent!"

"Exactly! They don't even know how to be discreet in broad daylight!"

"Alright, let's get going! Let's not get involved in this mess, it's embarrassing!"

A series of hurried footsteps sounded, growing fainter and fainter until they disappeared completely.

Su Yue felt the heavy pressure on her body finally ease. The man suddenly propped himself up, staggering as he tried to steady himself, but he lost his balance and swayed.

"The crisis is over." Su Yue peeked out from under the covers, her voice slightly hoarse from just waking up. She looked at the man's swaying figure, her brows furrowing slightly. "You're badly injured, get up and treat your wounds."

The man slowly turned around, moonlight streaming through the window outlining his cold, handsome profile. He stared intently at her, his eyes deep and seemingly churning with a complex mix of emotions. It was a strange sense of trust, and a hint of intense attraction that even he himself didn't realize.

He didn't speak, just stood there, his gaze fixed on her, as if trying to etch her into his very bones. He had never seen a woman like this before; despite her delicate appearance, she remained calm and composed in the face of such a crisis, even cooperating flawlessly.

"You..." He was about to speak when everything suddenly went black before his eyes. All the strength in his body seemed to be drained away instantly. His tall body swayed and fell straight towards Su Yue.

Su Yue reacted quickly, reaching out to support him, but she couldn't catch him at all, and the two of them fell to the ground. The man's heavy body pressed completely on top of her, and hot blood soaked through her military uniform, filling her nostrils with a strong smell of rust.

"Hey! Hey!" Su Yue patted his face, only to find he had lost consciousness. She struggled to push him away, and seeing his shoulder completely stained with blood, and blood gushing from the wound, her heart skipped a beat. The bullet was still inside! It had to be removed immediately!

"I'm a doctor!" she murmured to herself. This was the first time since her transmigration that she had faced such a severe injury so directly. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down, her eyes instantly becoming focused and sharp. "You won't die!"

She quickly looked around, making sure the doors and windows were tightly closed, and then, with a thought, she entered the space. She retrieved a bottle of spiritual spring water, a complete set of surgical instruments, disinfectant alcohol, sterile cotton swabs, and sutures from the laboratory's medicine area. She then moved an operating table from the space, setting up a makeshift operating room in the room.

She carefully lifted the man onto the operating table and laid him flat. Su Yue tore open his blood-stained military uniform, revealing his strong forearms and shoulders. At the wound on his shoulder, the skin was turned inside out, and blood was gushing from a clear bullet hole.

She picked up the scissors and deftly cut open his clothes at the shoulder, revealing the complete wound. She washed the wound with the spiritual spring water; the cool stream caressed the wound, and the man groaned softly, seemingly feeling a slight chill. Su Yue knew he wasn't completely unconscious, but rather suffering from excessive blood loss and blurred consciousness.

"Bear with it, it'll be over soon," she reassured him softly, her hands moving without hesitation. She disinfected the wound with iodine and then picked up the scalpel. Without anesthesia, this meant he would endure excruciating pain throughout the procedure.
