A TV drama from the 90s was once the origin of Yu Yin's nightmares, and its ending theme song deeply influenced her.
Yu Yin's childhood was filled with the sounds of her parents argui...
With only three days left until the Lunar New Year, Yu Yin and Lu Shurui devoted all their energy to selling supplies.
The next day, disguised by Yu Yin as an ordinary middle-aged man and woman, the two went to the alleyway from the previous day, found the black market, paid their money, and went inside.
The two men placed their baskets on the ground, laid out the bananas and pineapples, and waited for the black market boss to come and negotiate.
The black market boss hadn't arrived yet, but many people who came to buy goods on the black market surrounded him, asking how much they cost.
Yu Yin and the others didn't have scales either, and were wondering how to solve the problem when a thin man came over and whispered, "This guy's taken." The others then dispersed.
“Our boss wants to make a deal with you, please.” Yu Yin didn’t ask any more questions, pulled Lu Shurui along, and the two followed him into a small courtyard.
“Friend, how much of your goods do you have? I’ll take them all. Name your price.” A man in his forties said earnestly as he sat in a grand chair.
"Bananas are 1.8 yuan per jin, and pineapples are 2.3 yuan per jin," Yu Yin replied calmly.
"It's a bit expensive. How much is it at retail now?" the gang leader said slowly and deliberately.
"That depends on what kind of goods they are. All our goods are of this quality, as you can see."
Because of the time constraints, the bananas, although they didn't look like they were just picked, didn't have any obvious spots and were still yellowish-brown.
The gang leader pondered for a moment, then said, "Let's each compromise. Bananas are 1.6 yuan per pound, and pineapples are 2.1 yuan per pound."
"Deal." Yu Yin's tone remained calm.
"When and where will the transaction take place?"
"Come pick up the goods at the courtyard near the department store tomorrow at 1 p.m., bring a scale and weigh them." Yu Yin didn't have a scale and didn't know how many kilograms her goods would weigh.
"Okay, skinny guy, weigh these two baskets and pay."
The skinny man came in, picked up two baskets, and weighed them: "55 jin of bananas and 61 jin of pineapples."
"216.1"
Yu Yin took it and left.
This was Lu Shurui's first time experiencing these things. Apart from unintentionally blocking Yu Yin's way, he did nothing and didn't say a word. It felt very mysterious.
Yu Yin knew that someone was definitely following them, so she pulled Lu Shurui to a blind spot and entered the space.
"Phew, I was so nervous!" Lu Shurui felt like she could finally breathe again.
"This is the only time. It will take several years to accumulate this much volume again, and who knows what the situation will be like then."
The two changed their clothes, removed their costumes, rested for a while, ate something, and then left the space.
As for the delivery location, the two of them had already scouted it out before. The place where Yu Yin made her transaction last time was the same, so they chose that auspicious location again this time.
With most things settled, I'm in the mood for shopping.
Having run out of tickets, the two turned to the black market.
They bought pastries, beef and mutton, ribs, White Rabbit milk candy, dried fruit... Their hands were full of purchases before they headed home.
After leaving the black market, Yu Yin found a quiet place and, with Lu Shurui as cover, put some things into her spatial storage. Otherwise, it wouldn't be good if the neighbors saw them.
As we entered the alley, the neighbors on both sides greeted us.
There are quite a few people living on both sides of Yu Yin's house.
On the left are two two-story buildings, while on the right are single-story houses, all the way to the alley entrance.
Because the people here originally came from all over the country to make a living, there are many accents from different places, from all over the country.
Yu Yin didn't say much. She opened the door, went inside, tidied up her things, and started stewing ribs again. She had bought small ribs today, so she made some sweet and sour ribs to take to her grandparents later.
The ribs were ready, and Lu Shurui, carrying the lunchbox Yu Yin had packed, went to pick up the children.
Yu Yin continued cooking, but she couldn't just make sweet and sour pork ribs; she also had to make some vegetarian dishes.
When Lu Shurui returned with the children, Yu Yin made braised shrimp, stir-fried greens, and shredded cabbage salad.
"Did Grandpa and Grandma say when they're coming?" The Lunar New Year is the day after tomorrow, it would be great if the two elders could come sooner.
"Come over tomorrow."
Before Lu Shurui could speak, An'an answered quickly.
Washing hands before eating—another clean-up operation! In a few years, we'll need a bigger pot!
The next day, after settling the children, Yu Yin and her husband changed their clothes again, walked around a few times, and finally entered the empty courtyard.
Yu Yin took out the bamboo baskets that had been packed in the space, while Lu Shurui did the final finishing touches on the outside to mislead everyone.
Yu Yin counted them: there were 70 baskets of bananas and 55 baskets of pineapples. Based on the weight they had taken on the black market, this batch of goods could probably be sold for around 15,000 yuan.
At one o'clock in the afternoon, Yu Yin heard footsteps outside and the gang leader came in.
"The goods are there, you can check them." Yu Yin said naturally, recalling the process and tone of the last transaction.
"Go." With a single glance from the gang leader, his men worked together efficiently, weighing and counting without showing any signs of panic.
"This is a veteran," Yu Yin thought to herself.
"Boss, the bananas weigh 4835 jin in total, and the pineapples weigh 3470 jin in total." It was the same skinny guy from that day who reported the numbers, without saying anything else.
The gang leader understood that there was no problem with the quality of the goods.
"total."
"The bananas cost 7736 yuan, the pineapples cost 7287 yuan, and the total cost is [amount missing] yuan."
The skinny man calculated quickly, and the total was about the same as Yu Yin's estimate.
"Here is 15,000 yuan. Please count it."
The gang leader gestured to the skinny man to open the sack, which contained stacks of ten yuan notes each, totaling 150 stacks.
Yu Yin put the money into the basket one stack at a time, until there were exactly 150 stacks, and then handed them to Lu Shurui.
