Dreaming Back to the 70s: Divine Beasts at Home

A TV drama from the 90s was once the origin of Yu Yin's nightmares, and its ending theme song deeply influenced her.

Yu Yin's childhood was filled with the sounds of her parents argui...

Chapter 260 The Story of Zhong Ling

"Sister Yu Yin, when luck comes, you can't stop it! What a good omen!"

“I feel this is a good omen. Let’s not worry about the policy for now. You start preparing for the demolition of the old factory tomorrow. Transport the old bricks to the farm to build the fence. This time we’ve decided to focus on the pigs, so the fence has to be built. Let Brother Liang organize the construction.”

"I wonder how the pigsty is coming along. Let's go check on it together tomorrow."

After giving her instructions, Yu Yin was about to get on the bus again, and her buttocks started to hurt.

"Yinyin is back, why does she look so pale?"

Grandma saw Yu Yin's pale face and asked anxiously.

"Grandma, it's okay. I'm just a little carsick. We went to Pudong, which is quite far, and the roads are rough."

After taking the hot water from Aunt Hu, Yu Yin sat down to calm down.

Where is Grandpa?

"Your dad is here, and the two of them are tending to the flowers in the greenhouse."

"Dad and the others have been living there for a while now. How are they doing?"

When Lu Shukang and his family moved, Yu Yin didn't go; Lu Shurui went by himself, with his second brother-in-law driving and helping to move their belongings. Apparently, the house is quite nice, with a bathroom that flushes. Lu's mother should be happy now; she's been longing for it for so long.

"It's not bad. The two children are in a new environment, and without all the gossip, things are much better."

"That's good. The child is innocent. I hope things will get better in the future."

Yu Yin thought that it would be a blessing to meet a good stepmother in the future, although the chances of that are not high.

"Yinyin is back. Do you see? My orchid has sprouted new growth again."

"Congratulations, Grandpa!"

Congratulations to you!

The old man looked genuinely happy; he couldn't stop smiling.

"I heard you've taken unpaid leave?"

"Yeah, I want to do something. I won't be able to manage if I'm at work."

“Just think it through. Shurui said you’re going to build a new factory. I’ve contacted a friend who’s away on a business trip but will be back next week. I’ll take you to meet him then; he’s an architect.”

Mr. Lu was also a college student and had many classmates and friends. When Shu Rui asked him about it, he called a friend who worked at the Construction Bureau. However, the friend was away on a business trip and could only wait until he returned next week.

"Thank you, Dad. Otherwise, I really wouldn't know where to find an expert in this field. I need professional design."

"That shouldn't be a problem. He studied abroad and has very advanced ideas, which may be exactly what you need."

Yu Yin truly felt that God was blessing her; everything was going so smoothly that she could hardly believe it.

"Today is a wonderful day, Aunt Hu. Let's cook something nice tonight to celebrate. Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, is there anything you'd like to eat?"

"I don't want to eat anything else, but I suddenly crave mackerel dumplings."

Grandma Lu suddenly remembered when she was young, when she was a girl at home, and her grandmother made mackerel dumplings.

"Okay, I'll go to the grocery store and see if they have any fresh mackerel. I'll buy some and add some pork belly."

"Buy some peanuts."

Grandpa Lu may be over eighty years old, but he has good teeth and occasionally wants to eat some peanuts.

"Okay, Grandpa, we'll buy from Old Lü's again."

"Yes, her food is delicious."

Mr. Lu felt that as a son, he had not fulfilled his obligation to support his parents. On the contrary, his son and daughter-in-law had done a very good job and genuinely enjoyed living with the two elderly people. They got along very harmoniously, naturally, and happily.

They ate quite a lot in the evening, and afterwards Yu Yin brewed hawthorn tea. They drank a little bit every now and then. The children accompanied their great-grandparents in the yard to digest their food, and bursts of laughter could be heard from time to time.

"Alright, I'm going back now. I'll contact you again when your Uncle Jiang returns."

"It's getting late, why don't you stay here for the night and go back tomorrow?"

Looking at his father, whose hair was turning gray, Lu Shurui felt a pang of sadness.

"No need. Your mother is already working hard taking care of two children by herself. If I go back, I can help her a little."

Lu Shurui didn't know what to say. His parents had made their own choices, and he had no right to question them.

After seeing Mr. Lu off, Yu Yin began writing her business plan.

"Sister Yu Yin, could you come out for a moment? I have something to tell you."

Yu Yin hadn't written more than a few words when she heard Zhong Ling calling her from the doorway.

"You read your book yourself. I'm going out to see what Zhong Ling wants from me."

"Put on a coat, it's a bit chilly at night."

Yu Yin picked up her coat, put it on, and went out the door.

"Sister Yu Yin, I'm sorry to bother you."

"It's okay, let's go outside and talk."

The two went downstairs and sat under the grape trellis.

"What's wrong? Is there something you can't figure out?"

Yu Yin saw hesitation on Zhong Ling's face; something must have happened.

"Sister Yu Yin, do you know about what happened to me?"

"I'm not really sure, but I know that I encountered some bad things when I went to the countryside."

Zhong Ling clenched her fists, pursed her lips, and struggled internally. Should she tell him the truth? If she didn't, would she live like this for the rest of her life? Her brother would definitely worry and wouldn't start his own life.

“The place where I went to work was quite remote. Most of the villagers shared the same surname and were very xenophobic. I found it very difficult to adapt when I first arrived. I didn’t know how to do farm work. Back home, no matter how much my stepmother made me do chores, it was just housework. I really didn’t know how to do farm work.”

Zhong Ling took a deep breath, then exhaled before continuing.

“There weren’t many people in our educated youth settlement, only five or six, and they all had their own agendas. When I first arrived, I was young, and they were quite nice to me and didn’t bully me. Later, the village secretary’s son had an accident, broke his head, and became mentally disabled.”

Yu Yin held Zhong Ling's hand; the child was trembling all over, and sweat was pouring down her face.
