A TV drama from the 90s was once the origin of Yu Yin's nightmares, and its ending theme song deeply influenced her.
Yu Yin's childhood was filled with the sounds of her parents argui...
The aroma of Yu Yin's fried matsutake mushrooms wafted far and wide, so much so that even the newly moved-in neighbors next door were drooling.
"What does my neighbor do? Their cooking is amazing! The aroma is making my mouth water."
"Mom, if we get along well with our neighbors, we might be able to get some free food and drinks."
"You brat."
The boy looked to be six or seven years old, and spoke in a cocky manner, the kind of age that everyone dislikes. After a while, he became quiet and, while still talking, ran down from the stilted house, did a couple of somersaults in the yard, and was quite agile.
"It's delicious, I want to eat it."
The boy who was speaking was three or four years old. He was chubby, with long, thick eyelashes, and his fair and tender skin made him very cute.
"You two foodies, Mom can't make you anything to eat right now."
The lady of the house was gentle and kind, with an unthreatening appearance. She looked like she had been raised in a pampered manner and had no air of worldliness about her.
"The couple living next door are a young couple. The man is a former educated youth from Shanghai, and the woman is an accountant at the county government. They also have a pair of twins, a boy and a girl, who are a little over a year old. They have a good reputation, so you can feel at ease dating them in the future, so you won't be lonely."
The man was imposing and domineering, over 1.8 meters tall, with not a trace of gentleness about him; he looked like a very domineering person. However, he unconsciously softened his tone when speaking to women.
"I understand, thank you, Brother Jianguo. You came all the way from Kyoto to this remote southwestern border region for me, and even went so far as to inquire about the neighbors' situation. I..."
"It's okay, anywhere is fine. As long as our family is together, that's more important than anything else."
"Yes, the family is together."
"Mom, I see lots of fruit."
All the warmth is gone, completely destroyed by that brat.
Where can I find fruit?
Ta-da! The quick-footed boy ran upstairs, gesturing and talking as he explained that his neighbor had lots of ripe fruit in his yard, and it looked delicious.
"Really? We're going to visit the neighbors tomorrow. Mom will get you some more then. You can't just go in and pick them yourself, okay?"
Looking at the gentle woman, her words were firm and left no room for refusal.
"Alright, listen to your mother. This place may not have much else, but there's plenty of fruit. Go wash up and go to bed. Don't kick off the mosquito net tonight, or you'll be covered in mosquito bites."
After the father summarized the situation, the boy was still scared and took his younger brother back to their room to sleep.
"Don't worry, this place is remote and there aren't many political movements. I'm also in the position of director of the Revolutionary Committee, so everything is under control."
"Yes, I know you will protect me, I'm not afraid."
Yu Yin never expected that the legendary director of the Revolutionary Committee would turn out to be her new neighbor.
On this rare sunny day, Yu Yin stretched and loosened her muscles, inwardly cursing Lu Shurui. He went crazy on his days off, exercising endlessly. She really missed the shameful person he used to be; how could he be gone forever?
"Honey, come down for dinner. I have your favorite stir-fried pork with pickled green beans. It turned out great."
"snort."
Yu Yin walked downstairs with an air of arrogance and went to wash up first.
Lu Shurui touched his nose. He had offended his wife, but there was nothing he could do. He was young and hot-tempered, and he couldn't help it.
After dinner, Yu Yin took the blankets out to air them, while Lu Shurui weeded the fruit trees in the yard and set up trellises for the vegetables—all tasks they were good at. They would have finished much faster if the two little devils hadn't been causing trouble.
"Dad, pick some fruit."
"Dad, here's a stick for you."
"Dad wants to eat."
"Daddy, the rope."
...
One had to eat, and the other had to work. Lu Shurui was busy taking care of his daughter and his son, working up a sweat.
Is anyone home?
Yu Yin opened the courtyard gate with a puzzled look. There were three people standing outside: a beautiful mother with two good-looking children.
"Who are you?"
"Hello, my name is Su Yixian, and I'm your new neighbor. These are some local specialties I brought from Kyoto. I just wanted to introduce myself to the neighborhood."
"Ah, hello, my name is Yu Yin, please come in."
"Auntie, can I come in and have a look around? Your house is so beautiful, there's so much fruit."
Su Yixian blushed. This brat, all he could think about was other people's fruit.
"Come in, your uncle is by the fruit tree. He can pick some fruit for you. Just tell your uncle what you want to eat."
"Yes, sir. I'm off."
The boy ran over excitedly, forgetting even his younger brother.
"Brother, wait for me!"
The smaller boy hurriedly followed behind his older brother, afraid of falling too far behind.
"I'm so sorry, my two kids are a bit too outgoing."
"It's alright, it's good for kids to be lively and not shy. Come in and sit for a while, we live close by, we can visit each other often."
The two walked into the yard together, and then they heard a child's exclamation.
"Sit down. Would you like tea or plain water?"
"Ah, no, I'm not thirsty. It's just that your yard is so nicely decorated; you can tell you've put a lot of thought and effort into it."
"Hey, there's nothing we can do about it. If you want to eat well, you have to find a way, and it'll happen little by little. Your yard isn't small, you can do some tinkering. Whatever seeds you need, I have them all."
"Thank you in advance. I've never done this before, and I might need your help again in the future."
"It's alright, it's easy to handle."
"Wow, it's so sweet, it's delicious!"
"It's delicious, and I can still eat it."
Eat, eat more.
"Leave one for me."
The four children, like four little animals, ran through the woods, a return to the rhythm of nature!
Yu Yin thought that it would be good to have more children to keep in touch with in the future. There weren't many residents in their area, and in the past year or so, Yu Yin hadn't really gotten close to anyone. Now that her children were older, having two older children to take care of them would make things much happier.
