Eighty's Military Marriage: The Disliked Me Became the Richest Man in the City

Originally the female CEO of a high-end catering brand, Xia Enruo drowned while vacationing in Hainan to watch the underwater starry sky and transmigrated to the 1980s. Her past life was full of gl...

Chapter 170 Xia Enruo Needs Help Again

After showing Xia Enruo the armored vehicle, Gu Shaoxuan took her to the military canteen.

Before I even reached the door, I could hear each class lined up and singing a song before meals.

"Shaoxuan, do they do this every day? Do they sing before every meal?"

"Yes, we call it a song before meals, which is also a tradition in the army."

Xia Enruo found it very novel. Although the songs were all military songs, and some were even off-key, the momentum was something that could not be seen on stage.

The two entered the mess hall, and the officers and soldiers watched as Chief of Staff Gu walked in with his sister-in-law.

Xia Enru greeted everyone with a smile as her gaze fell upon them.

The uniform green military uniforms were truly dazzling.

"Enruo, what would you like to eat? Pork buns again?"

Because it was Chinese New Year, the food in the military canteen was much better than usual.

There are also many more varieties of steamed buns and meat and vegetable dishes than usual.

"I'd like two steamed buns. I'm getting fat from eating meat buns every day."

Xia Enruo has noticed that she has gained a lot of weight in the past two days.

Although she didn't have a scale, her intuition told her that she had definitely gained weight.

Because of so many things to do during the Chinese New Year, my daily exercise and yoga practice were temporarily suspended for a few days. I need to make up for it after the New Year, otherwise all the progress I've made in improving my physical fitness will be wasted.

I love you no matter what you are like.

"Keep your voice down, don't let your comrades hear you."

Xia Enruo felt that Gu Shaoxuan's words had become increasingly sweet lately, as if they were coated with honey. He would say endless nice things and seize every opportunity to praise her, regardless of the time.

The two found an empty seat and sat down. Gu Shaoxuan got up and made her a bowl of ginger soup.

Drinking ginger soup in winter can warm the stomach.

"Enruo, drink some ginger soup first. You must have been freezing. Although we're all in Yongning, the military base is not like the city. There are only mountains and grasslands all around, and the wind blows much stronger than in the city."

Xia Enruo picked up the bowl and took a small sip. The ginger soup was very weak; it would be better if a little brown sugar were added.

However, when eating in the army, you can't be picky and make others think you're difficult to serve.

"It tastes pretty good, you should try some. You talk a lot outside, and you've been drinking a lot of cold air. You should drink more."

The head cook saw Xia Enruo in the shop window and hurriedly came out.

He was truly amazed by the dishes Xia Enruo made last time. He never expected that the chief of staff's wife, who was rumored to be sloppy and lazy throughout the army, would actually have such good cooking skills.

The cooks were amazed by Xia Enruo's cooking skills, especially Xiao Wu. Ever since then, he has praised Xia Enruo to everyone he meets, saying how amazing her skills are.

He's practically a culinary genius.

"Good morning, Chief of Staff!"

The head cook saluted.

"Enruo, this is Wu Daqiang, the head of the cooking squad."

"Sister-in-law, it's been a long time! Happy New Year! I heard yesterday that you sang a wonderful song in the auditorium, and I'm so glad to see you again today."

Wu Daqiang greeted Xia Enruo with a smile.

"You two know each other?"

Gu Shaoxuan was somewhat surprised; he felt as if he and Enruo were old acquaintances.

"Happy New Year, Squad Leader Wu! It's been a long time. Shao Xuan, I helped out in the mess hall when I last visited the troops, and that's when I met you, Squad Leader Wu."

Xia Enruo stood up, shook hands with Wu Daqiang, and then turned to explain to Gu Shaoxuan.

"Oh, I see."

When Xia Enruo came last time, he was furious and avoided her like the plague. Little did he know what his wife had been doing in the army.

Even when eating, they keep a great distance apart.

In the end, he sulked and got drunk, but Yuan Qiang still helped him back to the guesthouse.

"Chief of Staff, your wife's cooking is absolutely amazing. We were all stunned by what she did last time. That spicy mixed salad was simply divine; even Regiment Commander Lu praised it highly."

The last time our leader visited the troops, he specifically requested this dish, but the result was never quite the same as what we made, and the regiment was rather disappointed.

Sister-in-law, there's something I'm not sure if I should say, but could you teach the soldiers in our mess hall how to make that spicy mixed salad?

Wu Daqiang knew he was somewhat embarrassed to say those words.

Because cooking is a highly specialized skill, chefs generally won't easily teach their techniques to outsiders without apprenticing under a master.

However, when Commander Lu specifically requested spicy mixed noodles last time, he was reprimanded by the battalion commander because the taste wasn't right for him.

The entire cook squad tried to make it several times, but they always felt that the flavor was lacking and it was far less delicious than Xia Enruo's.

If Sister-in-law Enruo were to agree, it would truly be a lifesaver for the entire cooking crew. Who knows if Lu Tuan would order the spicy mixed noodles again next time?

"Wu Daqiang, you've got a real scheme up your sleeve. Your sister-in-law's only been in the army for a couple of days, and now she's teaching singing and cooking too. Can she handle it?"

When Gu Shaoxuan heard Wu Daqiang's words, that his wife was going to be the one to teach, he thought, "How can that be allowed?"

In the next unit, I became a teacher. The Lunar New Year is supposed to be a time for rest, but this is a hundred times more tiring than staying at home.

He cherishes his own wife.

"Chief of Staff, you are right, but I really have no other choice, so I came to ask for your opinion."

"Last time I got a real scolding from the battalion commander because I didn't make this spicy mixed salad properly. I was so worried I couldn't sleep all night."

Xia Enruo saw that Wu Daqiang was indeed looking distressed. His energy and spirits were not as radiant as when she last met him, so he might really be very worried.

"Squad Leader Wu, I can help you with this little thing. But it will have to wait until tonight, there's really no extra time during the day teaching the female soldiers to sing."

Upon hearing this, Wu Daqiang's eyes welled up with tears of excitement. The problem that had troubled him for so long could finally be solved.
