Originally the female CEO of a high-end catering brand, Xia Enruo drowned while vacationing in Hainan to watch the underwater starry sky and transmigrated to the 1980s. Her past life was full of gl...
Xia Enruo had a lot of anger inside her with nowhere to vent it, so she spoke a little harshly. She snatched the pillow from Ge Qiuqin's hand, threw it aside, and continued talking.
"Sister-in-law, you should take a rest. I've never seen you idle since you came in. You're always working non-stop. Aren't you afraid of working yourself to death?"
Ge Qiuqin had never seen Xia Enruo lose her temper in front of her.
"Xia, what's wrong today? Did something upset you? If you're feeling down, talk to your sister-in-law."
Ge Qiuqin pulled Xia Enruo to sit down.
“Sister-in-law, I... I just feel that you don’t need to work so hard. Who says that women have to stay at home like maids to take care of their husbands and children every day? You can have your own job too.”
Xia Enruo felt extremely uncomfortable and dared not tell the truth, but seeing Ge Qiuqin like this made her very unhappy.
"Xia, you don't have children yet, you don't know this is life, this is the life of us women. Taking care of the family's daily needs, being filial to your parents-in-law, this is the virtue of women passed down for thousands of years. If you have an affair after marriage, you will be boiled in oil and climbed on a mountain of knives after you die, and your skin will be peeled off alive, and you will be reincarnated as an animal."
Ge Qiuqin's words left Xia Enruo speechless. "Women's virtues? Your thinking could be made into a tragic drama in your past life, titled 'My Mother Ge Qiuqin'!"
“Sister-in-law, this is a new society now. Do you still think you are living in a feudal society? After the founding of New China, we were told that men and women are equal and that women can hold up half the sky. The stories you told about being boiled in oil or climbing mountains of knives... these are all superstitious stories made up to oppress women in feudal society.”
Xia Enruo thought Ge Qiuqin was really dull-witted; no wonder she endured Zhang Xin's bullying in silence.
"Xia, what's wrong with you today? You're so irritable."
Ge Qiuqin felt that Xia Enruo was different from usual today; her expression and tone made it seem as if she had been bullied outside.
"I'm just feeling aggrieved. Seeing how hard you're working, I wanted to stand up for you. Has Brother Zhang come back recently?"
Xia Enru asked.
“My husband came back last week and said his mother was coming to Yongning to stay for a few days, and asked me to tidy up the house. He said he was too busy with work lately and wouldn't be coming home, and he hasn't come back since.”
Ge Qiuqin has gotten used to it after so many years of marriage. Zhang Xin rarely came home before, and even less so this year. However, with the children by her side, she doesn't feel lonely. She is busy from morning till night, and time flies by.
Xia Enru thought to herself, "Work my ass! She's still hanging out with that vixen all day. If I hadn't seen that scene today, I might have actually believed what Ge Qiuqin said. She's really treating her like a free babysitter, calling her around all day."
Xia Enruo chatted with Ge Qiuqin for a long time. Before going back to her room, she repeatedly told her, "Taking care of your health is the most important thing. Don't overwork yourself."
Back in my room, it was almost dinnertime, and I hadn't cooked anything yet.
She hurriedly washed the millet, poured it into the pot, and turned up the fire on the stove.
While the millet porridge was cooking, Xia Enruo rinsed the pork chops in cold water and cleaned the carp, then set it aside to prepare for cooking.
But images of Zhang Xin and the other person would occasionally pop into her mind.
Xia Enru shook her head and muttered to herself:
"What are you doing! It's like the emperor isn't worried but the eunuch is. Sister Qiuqin is still singing the praises of womanly virtues, and you're here getting so angry. Forget about it, forget about it."
She simply washed her face with cold water to clear her head.
Zhang Xin, if you continue to be so arrogant, you'll eventually suffer the consequences and end up making a mess of things.
Xia Enru cleared the jumbled thoughts from her mind. Cooking was the priority, otherwise she would miss the bus.
She sprinkled some salt into the oil pan, then put the whole carp in to deep-fry until both sides were golden brown, then took it out.
Start the pot again, stir-fry the scallions, ginger, garlic and a little chili until fragrant, then put the carp into the pot, add soy sauce and other seasonings, then pour in half a spoonful of broad bean paste and a ladle of water to steam, finally reduce the broth until thick, and sprinkle with cilantro.
It smells absolutely wonderful.
While the pork ribs were stewing, Xia Enruo washed the spinach and almonds, rinsed them with boiling water, and made a cold dish.
I also added a piece of brown sugar and half a spoonful of butter to the millet porridge.
She used almost all the seasonings and ingredients she bought from the market over the past two days for this meal.
After packing her lunchbox, Xia Enruo hurriedly rushed to catch the bus to the hospital. She happened to run into Qiao Huizhen, who was also on the bus.
"My sister-in-law is back to cook for Brother Ding too."
Xia Enruo, sitting in the seat in front of Qiao Huizhen, turned around and greeted her.
“I’m at work, I don’t have time for that. Unlike you, who just wanders around aimlessly all day. I came back to get a pair of pants for my son, Xiaohuzi. He doesn’t have any pants to wear at my mom’s place.”
Qiao Huizhen replied to Xia Enruo without even looking up.
Xia Enru thought to herself, "What do you have to be so arrogant about? Would it kill you to say something normal? You have to be sarcastic and make people happy."
“Brother Ding eats hospital cafeteria food every day, can he stand it? Anyone would want a change of pace. Sister-in-law, you are his wife, you can’t mistreat her.”
Xia Enruo knew that Qiao Huizhen got her meals from the cafeteria every day. She went to the cafeteria herself and saw that the dishes were all bland and watery, which made her lose her appetite. She felt sorry for Ding Haotian, who had been eating the same thing for more than half a month.
Qiao Huizhen dismissed Xia Enruo's words, thinking that Xia Enruo was just jealous of her because her family couldn't afford to eat at the cafeteria and was making sarcastic remarks.
