As the greatest magician of this century, Veili has captured a new pet—a little thing that calls itself a system and can transport people across worlds. Recalling the men who chased him nonstop, ...
"Let go of my wife first, and I don't care how long I want to talk to you."
Chu Lai didn't want to provoke Castin, but his words still unconsciously revealed a hint of anxiety; he didn't seem to be good at negotiating with people.
The detective is his opposite.
"That's exactly what I want to talk to you about."
Castin's hand holding the gun was steady. He even had the leisure to casually lower his head and bury his nose in the hair of the person in his arms, taking a light sniff.
His embrace wasn't as elusive as the man himself; instead, it was burning hot. Vili could feel the man's full chest muscles behind him, almost making him sink into them.
It seems he does indeed have the "qualifications" to be a policeman.
"You keep claiming that Willie is your wife...do you have any proof?"
"I don't know much about your country's marriage system, but I imagine you can't produce anything like a marriage certificate, right? Or are you going to use that fictitious self-proclaimed title you have as proof?"
Castin's words were not harsh, but they were full of provocation.
Before Chu could reply, he continued:
"But I'm different."
"Oh, right, speaking of which, I don't think I've ever introduced myself yet."
“My name is Castin, and I’m a detective. Willie is my assistant.”
“He told me this himself just now.”
“He wants to ‘follow me’.”
He chewed over the last three words, his voice soft yet resounding.
"..."
What a brilliant distortion of the truth! Vili was utterly astonished.
But he did not refute it, after all, what Castin said was indeed true.
"If I am Sherlock Holmes, then Willy is my Watson... So who are you?"
"The one who claims to be Mary?"
The detective chuckled.
Just when it seemed the situation was about to tilt entirely in Casting's favor, an unexpected event occurred.
A black figure slowly walked out from behind Chu Lai.
He was in a much worse state than Chu Lai. One of his arms was bent unnaturally, and blood dripped onto the white tiles. His legs had several knife-like cuts, and even his brow bone had a slight abrasion.
However, at this moment, he did not look at the culprit who caused all this, but instead focused his gaze on the face of the person holding Vili hostage.
“...Castin.”
His voice wasn't loud, but it drew everyone's attention.
The detective raised an eyebrow slightly.
"And who are you?"
"Inspector Lestrade, here to uphold justice?"
Even now, he hasn't forgotten his sense of humor.
"..."
It seemed that getting here had exhausted all of Xie Liqi's strength. He leaned against the door frame, adjusting his breathing.
"I may not be as good as you, able to infiltrate the NPC's police station and become a detective."
"But you're not Sherlock Holmes, you're—"
"Moriarty."
"What do you think? Number one on the global wanted list, a fugitive who escaped from prison ten years ago, the most notorious criminal in the world..."
"Castin Rewell?"
"..."
If Castin weren't too busy, he would have applauded the scene before him.
What a wonderful performance!
However, Xie Liqi had not yet finished speaking.
"Most of the players in the first round died because of you, right?"
"They see you as their savior who can help them escape the game, and they come to you for advice no matter what happens. But you tamper with their weapons, making them watch helplessly as they are torn apart by monsters that are actually NPCs."
"Under the cover of your police identity, you also arrested some players and put them in jail, ostensibly for protection, but in reality, you were forcing them to have nowhere to escape."
"How dare someone like you call yourself Sherlock Holmes?"
"That's just your side of the story."
Despite the surprise, Castin remained unmoved, and the smile on his lips never faded from the beginning.
"Like I said... you need evidence to do things."
Xie Liqi, however, had anticipated this and confronted him head-on.
"The tattoo on your wrist is proof."
"Chu Lai should know that each criminal on the global wanted list has letters and numbers engraved on their wrists according to their level of danger."
"And you are S-001 among them."
"So, would you like to unbutton your sleeves and let us see?"
"ah."
Although Castin was unable to move freely, Willie's hands were unrestrained, and he clapped his hands.
"I've seen it!"
“Castin does indeed have such a string of numbers on his wrist.”
Castin was surprised when his assistant suddenly betrayed him, but then he burst into a muffled laugh.
"Okay, okay."
He lazily tilted his head, rubbed his cheek against the top of Willy's head, and held him tightly without loosening his grip.
You're absolutely right.
"But what's the use of that?"
“Vili is in my hands now, how are you going to take him away?”
For the first time, he removed all his masks, his smile carrying an inescapable malice and darkness.
The hostage, who was being held in his arms, suddenly became lost in thought, muttering to himself in his mind about the system.
"Why haven't I seen this scene in the original work?"
It's obvious that Willy was the one who read the script, but now it seems like anyone else knows more than him!
Even the death certificate that I saw on the computer earlier was probably retrieved by Chu.
However, judging from his behavior, he might just be trying to gather as much information about Vili as possible while he's in the game...
The system had started frantically searching, but no matter how many times it went through the search, it couldn't find any information about Castin.
