【Not a purely satisfying story...
Zhang Qiang had just finished his wrestling match and returned to the tent to change clothes, covered in sweat.
He sat down to rest, turned around to look at his clothes, and the next second, his expression changed drastically.
Before setting off, he deliberately placed a hair he had pulled from his head at the collar of his neatly folded Zhongshan suit. This was a little trick he used to test whether anyone had touched his things.
Now, the collar of the Zhongshan suit has been moved, and that strand of hair has disappeared!
The tent was airtight, with no wind blowing in at all. No one but himself would ever come in and touch his clothes!
A bad feeling instantly welled up in my heart.
Ignoring the need to rest, Zhang Qiang hurriedly found the pipe hidden in the corner.
He immediately noticed a rough mark; it was a new scratch, one that hadn't been there before!
Zhang Qiang's heart skipped a beat, and his hands began to tremble. He quickly pressed down on the end of the pipe and pulled hard, causing the pipe head to fall off.
He looked down and found the room empty; the rolls of paper he had hidden there were all gone!
"It's over..." Zhang Qiang felt a sudden darkness before his eyes, his head spin, and he almost collapsed to the ground.
He staggered and grabbed the wooden crate beside him, panting heavily, a layer of cold sweat instantly appearing on his forehead.
Those rolls of paper are of great importance; if they fall into the wrong hands, he's finished!
Not only will he lose his position as battalion commander, he might even lose his life!
Even their own families... will be implicated!
It took Zhang Qiang a while to calm himself down.
He stumbled onto the wooden bench, haphazardly took off his wrestling clothes, and put on his own Zhongshan suit, even buttoning two buttons incorrectly.
He took a deep breath, stood up abruptly, pulled open the tent flap, and rushed out.
"Hey! Did you just go into my tent?" He grabbed a herdsman who had just come out of a nearby tent, his tone urgent and his eyes full of panic.
The herdsman was startled and shook his head repeatedly, "No, Captain Zhang, I've been changing clothes in my own tent the whole time, I haven't been to your tent!"
Zhang Qiang then grabbed another passing commune cadre, "Did you see someone go into my little tent? The second one!"
"I didn't see it. Everyone went to watch the wrestling match; there wasn't much of a person around the tents." The cadre looked puzzled. "Captain Zhang, what's wrong? Did something go missing?"
Zhang Qiang didn't answer, and asked several more people, whether they were herdsmen or educated youth, they all said they had never been inside his tent, nor had they seen anyone go in.
He panicked even more.
He clearly remembered that he only temporarily left his pipe in the tent during wrestling matches; at other times, he always carried it with him. Someone must have sneaked into the tent and taken it while he was competing!
"Captain Zhang, what did you lose? You look so pale, did you lose something valuable?" An old herdsman who knew him came over, patted him on the shoulder, and asked with concern.
Zhang Qiang gritted his teeth, not daring to say what he had lost, and could only make up an excuse, "I lost money. I had a lot of money with me. I was planning to buy things for my daughter, but now it's all gone!"
"What? Money's gone?" The old herdsman's eyes widened, and he immediately shouted to those around him, "Everyone, ask around! Has anyone seen anyone take Captain Zhang's money? This is no small matter!"
People around asked each other, but after asking around, no one said they had seen it.
The old herdsman frowned, leaned close to Zhang Qiang's ear, and whispered, "Captain Zhang, think about it, who knows you brought money? None of us herdsmen knew you brought money, only the people in your forest farm knew, right? I think maybe someone in your forest farm stole it from you. Why don't you go and ask the people in your forest farm first!"
Upon hearing this, Zhang Qiang also felt that it made a lot of sense.
His sixth sense told him that it must be someone from the forest farm!
But who could it be?
Who would have known there was something in his pipe?
He strode quickly toward the direction where the people from the forest farm had gathered.
At this moment, Xu Xinghe, Zhang Qianqian, Jiang Linchuan, and several other female educated youths were standing on the edge of the wrestling arena watching the match.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Zhang Qiang walking towards her, his face gloomy, his steps hurried, and his eyes full of anger. Instantly, she understood.
He must have discovered that the contents of the pipe were missing.
Xu Xinghe remained calm and composed, watching the competition with composure, and even clapped lightly along with the crowd.
Jiang Linchuan, who was standing next to Zhang Qiang, also noticed him. He calmly continued watching the game, without any panic on his face, as if nothing had happened.
Zhang Qianqian, unaware that something was amiss, grabbed Xu Xinghe's arm and said, "Sister Li Juan, look at that wrestler, he seems even stronger than Brother Guowei!"
Xu Xinghe nodded with a smile, "Yes, it's really impressive."
Zhang Qiang rushed to the group and shouted, "Everyone from the forest farm, come back to our tents with me! Let's go now!"
His voice suddenly rang out, and the lively discussion around him instantly stopped.
Several villagers who were engrossed in watching the game paused, and one of the middle-aged men couldn't help but speak up, "Captain Zhang, the competition is so exciting, can't we wait until it's over before going back?"
"What are you looking at!" Zhang Qiang, who was already holding back his anger, couldn't control it any longer and shouted, "This is not the time to watch the game! Everyone get back! Anyone who stays will face the consequences!"
His roar startled everyone around him. Zhang Qianqian, in particular, shrank back in fear, tugging at Xu Xinghe's sleeve and whispering, "What's wrong with my dad? Why is he so angry?"
Xu Xinghe patted her hand, signaling her not to worry.
Zhang Qiang was getting anxious, fearing that things might get complicated if he delayed, and wanted to quickly return to the tent to find out who had taken the items.
After he finished shouting, seeing that no one moved, he raised his voice, "What are you all standing there for? Get together immediately! Men, walk in front, women, follow behind. No one is allowed to fall behind, and no one is allowed to act alone!"
Jiang Linchuan glanced at Xu Xinghe and took the lead in walking out of the crowd. "Everyone, don't just stand there. Since Captain Zhang said he has something to do, let's go back first. We can watch the competition again later."
Once the first person took action, the other male educated youth and male villagers followed suit.
After all, Zhang Qiang is the captain, and now that he's so angry, no one dares to disobey him.
The female educated youth and female villagers quickly followed the main group toward the tents where they were stationed.
Along the way, everyone was still discussing the wrestling match they had just watched.
Zhang Qiang walked at the front of the group, his steps quick, glancing back every now and then, afraid that someone might sneak away.
His mind raced. He remembered everyone who came from the forest farm. As long as he brought everyone back to the tent and questioned and searched them one by one, he would surely be able to find out who had taken his things.
The group quickly arrived at the tent area where the forest farm was resting. Zhang Qiang stopped and turned to the group, saying, "Men and women, go back to your tents where you rested last night. No one is allowed to come out without my permission! I'll check everyone in a bit, and if anyone dares to run away, don't blame me for being ruthless!"
