Jiang Jin continued explaining, "There's nothing between her and me, why can't you understand?"

Chen Shengnan felt that she had made her meaning very clear, so when he said he didn't understand, it meant that he didn't want to understand at all.

She turned to leave when she heard Ye He's tearful voice from the ward, "Go and chase after Sheng Nan right now. It's my fault for causing this misunderstanding. I'm sorry, if I had known it would turn out like this, you shouldn't have saved me in the first place. I deserve to die! If you won't go after her, I will."

As she spoke, she started to roll off the bed, shouting as she did so, "Sister Shengnan, don't be angry, Brother Jiang and I really have nothing going on."

Chen Shengnan didn't stay to listen to what she had to say; instead, Jiang Jin felt that Chen Shengnan was being somewhat unreasonable today.

Ye He was injured because of him, so isn't it only right that he takes care of her here?

Why is she so intolerant of others?

"Ye He, don't worry about her. You're probably hungry by now. I'll go get you some food."

Ye He nodded, "Thank you, Brother Jiang, you're so kind to me."

Chen Shengnan had already left the hospital, and Jiang Jin didn't come back to chase after her. In the past, whenever she was angry, he had never abandoned her or let her walk alone.

Chen Shengnan was genuinely saddened; she had never loved a man the way she loved Jiang Jin.

They were so close before, how come things changed after they got engaged?

Chen Shengnan returned home alone, dejected and heartbroken.

Seeing her like this, and noticing the bandage on her hand, Chen's mother asked anxiously, "Shengnan, what happened to your hand? Didn't you go to town with Jiang Jin? How come your hand is injured? Where is Jiang Jin?"

Chen Shengnan didn't want to say anything at that moment. She forced a smile, not wanting her mother to worry.

"I'm fine, I just got a little hurt when I went out just now."

Without waiting for Chen's mother's reply, he went straight back to his room.

Her mind was filled with memories of her childhood, of him helping her fight back when she was bullied, and of meeting her at the state-run restaurant when he started school, and the joy in his eyes.

The way he worried and felt sorry for her when she was sick.

And the way he wanted to give her the whole world before they got engaged.

The turning point seemed to be the appearance of Ye He.

He knew perfectly well that she was a very straightforward person, and she had already expressed that she didn't like him taking care of Ye He, so why did he still insist on doing so?

Are they really nothing? If they're nothing, why is he so concerned about her?

Her mind was filled with these messy thoughts, driving her crazy.

Jin went to the cafeteria and got Ye He some light porridge. She had just had surgery and couldn't eat anything too greasy yet.

He placed the porridge on the table next to the hospital bed, opened the lunchbox, and said to Ye He, "It's time to eat. Let me help you sit up."

"Thank you, Brother Jiang."

After helping her sit up, he handed her the lunchbox and said, "Eat slowly."

Ye He smiled and said, "Okay."

She had only taken two bites when she started to feel pain all over her body and lost her grip on the lunchbox, spilling it all over the bed.

Like a child who has done something wrong, she was at a loss, tears welling up in her eyes: "Brother Jiang, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I'm so stupid, I can't even do something this simple right."

Seeing her like this, Jiang Jin didn't blame her anymore. He just took a towel and wiped the bed.

Then he looked at Ye He and said, "I'll get you another bowl; you barely ate two bites of the last one."

Ye He said sadly, "But I'm worried that I won't be able to bear the pain and will spill the porridge again. Maybe I should just forget it; I'm not that hungry."

"It's okay, I'll get another bowl and feed you in a bit."

Ye He said somewhat embarrassedly, "That would be too much trouble for you. What if Sister Shengnan sees this and misunderstands again? I think I'd better not eat it."

"Don't worry about her. You're a patient right now, don't think about anything else, just focus on getting better. I can only take care of you here this afternoon; I have to go back to my unit tomorrow. I'll find you a caregiver then. Also, here's two hundred yuan; take it. When you're better, come find me, and I'll help you find a school."

Ye He took only one bill from the money, pushing the rest back, saying, "I only need ten yuan. You can keep the rest for yourself. I know it's not easy for you in the army. Your family must be struggling to support you, and I can't take so much money from you."

He forcefully stuffed the money into her hand, saying, "Take it. It's safer for you to have more money on you. I'll go get you some porridge."

He quickly made another bowl of porridge and on his way back to the ward, he saw Chen Shengnan in the corridor.

Chen Shengnan stayed at home for half an hour, knowing that he would be returning to his unit the next day.

I thought I'd better come and see him anyway.

Jiang Jin noticed that Chen Shengnan's eyes were red and swollen, clearly indicating that she had been crying.

He suddenly softened, strode over to Chen Shengnan, and hugged her tightly. "Shengnan, there's really nothing between us. I only see her as a younger sister, and she was only hurt because of me. Please don't be angry, okay? Once this is over, you can punish me however you want."

"You really only see her as a younger sister, and have no other feelings for her?"

He shook his head vigorously: "No, the only one I have feelings for is you. She's just a benefactor, a younger sister. Don't overthink it, okay?"

Chen Shengnan nodded. Although she had just said she would reconsider their relationship, she still couldn't let go.

She couldn't let it go: 'Okay, then you have to promise me you'll keep your distance from her.'
