Everyone is Fleeing Famine, I Have a Granary Full of Supplies

Song Ning transmigrated and found herself in an ancient era plagued by famine. Her family couldn't get enough to eat or warm clothes, and a group of problematic relatives were waiting to mock h...

Chapter 58 Survival is Paramount

As soon as Song Ning returned to the village, he ran into Zhou Ling'an, who was about to leave, just as he entered the village.

Upon seeing them return, Zhou Ling'an politely greeted Li Daniu, then nodded to Song Ning.

Song Ning was about to nod in acknowledgment when he suddenly saw Madam Yu standing not far away. His nodding motion abruptly stopped, and the smile on his face froze.

Yu's eyes were staring straight at her, which was really creepy. In the end, she turned her head away and ignored Zhou Ling'an.

If she dares to nod in agreement today, I feel like Madam Yu would come up and tear her apart.

Forget it, saving my life is the priority.

If she can't afford to offend them, can't she at least avoid them? She certainly doesn't want to get involved with trouble like the Yu family.

Li Daniu drove the oxcart over, and only then did Madam Yu step forward to instruct her son: "Stay away from that Song Erya in the future."

Zhou Ling'an said helplessly, "Mother, I was just saying hello."

"Who does she think she is, that you need to greet her? Have you forgotten what she used to be like?" Then she pointed to her son's forehead: "You, you just never learn."

Once Song Ning got home, she forgot about what had just happened; she needed to make today's cold noodles first.

The group was having a great time.

Even after finishing his work digging the irrigation ditch, Li Daniu didn't forget what Song Ning had said the day before.

He decided to inquire anyway, but the result of his inquiry made Li Daniu's face turn sour.

Song Ning could tell that he had probably found out something.

Because there were many people in his family, Li Daniu didn't say anything and just sat alone in the yard.

Song Ning didn't point it out; it's better to know now than to lose even more money later.

Everyone was busy until the sun was almost setting before they finally left Li Daniu's house.

After Sun said the clothes were ready, Song Ning went to the Jiang family first.

As soon as she entered, Granny Jiang warmly poured her some water and asked her to sit in the main room while Sun went to get her clothes.

Sun brought over the clothes and the remaining fabric from the next room. The clothes were folded neatly and the stitches were so tight that you couldn't see any loose threads.

Song Ning smiled and said, "Sister-in-law, you have such good skills. These clothes are even better than those sold outside."

"I haven't made clothes for many years, and I've gotten rusty."

When Sun wasn't making liangpi (cold skin noodles), she was making clothes at home. Afraid that Song Ning would be anxious, she didn't dare to delay for a moment.

"Sister-in-law is too modest." After saying that, he took out ten coins and handed them to Sun.

Mrs. Sun waved her hand repeatedly: "We don't need that much, a few coins will suffice."

Song Ning smiled and said, "Sister-in-law, please take it. You've worked hard these past few days, so it's only right."

Sun was a woman who couldn't sit still and would rush to do any work. Most of Song Ning's work was done by Sun and Aunt Zhao, and neither of them cared how much they did.

Picking up the clothes, Song Ning stood up: "Leave the rest of the cloth for my sister-in-law, she can make some clothes or something else."

Before Sun and Jiang could speak, Song Ning grabbed her things and hurried out the door.

There wasn't much fabric left, probably enough to make one adult and two children's clothes.

Granny Jiang slapped her thigh with joy and instructed her daughter-in-law, "You must work hard from now on, because you won't find another employer like Er Ya."

He touched the fabrics as he spoke, clearly enamored with them.

Song Ning left the Jiang family's house and walked up the slope.

It's dinnertime now, and there aren't many people outside.

As soon as I climbed the slope, my eyes caught sight of a figure not far away.

He walked along looking around nervously, as if he was afraid of being seen.

The woman had her back to Song Ning, so Song Ning couldn't see her face clearly. She only saw her hurrying towards the east end of the village.

Not long after the woman left, another man emerged from the same spot. He calmly straightened his clothes and walked in the same direction. It was Zhao Yongfu from the village.

Song Ning was small in stature and was conveniently hidden by a large tree in front of her, so she was not discovered.

These two...

Zhao Yongfu has a bad reputation in the village. Although he has been married and has children for a long time, he is lazy, greedy and cunning, just like Song Erhai. He avoids work whenever possible and leaves all the housework to his wife.

Zhao Yongfu wasn't exactly honest in the village. It was said that he had his eye on many of the young wives in the village, but everyone was discerning and naturally looked down on him.

Song Ning ignored it; this was not something a child like her should worry about.

When Liu Yuelan got home, she saw that the new clothes were finished and asked, "They're done so quickly?"

"Once it's done, we'll have new clothes to wear from now on."

After handing Liu Yuelan and Song Dahai their new clothes, Song Ning gave the rest to Song Xiu'e.

“Aunt, this is for you and the two children. We didn’t know Uncle was coming, so we didn’t prepare anything for him.”

Song Xiu'e didn't accept it: "Er Ya, I know you're a good girl, but I can't take this dress."

No brother or sister-in-law in the world would allow their married sister-in-law to live in their home for so long.

Let alone her brother and sister-in-law, even her parents would find their daughter resentful if she stayed at home for too long.

But these days, her brother and sister-in-law haven't said a single harsh word to her, and they've even provided food and drink for the four of them. How could she possibly ask for anything more?

If I actually accepted it, would I even be human?

“Er Ya, listen to your aunt, let’s leave this dress to your mother. We really can’t accept it.”

Song Xiu'e insisted repeatedly that she would not accept the money.

Song Ning knew what she was thinking, so she didn't force it on her. However, she still gave the two smaller outfits to Xiao Mei and Zhao Di.

When they went to bed at night, the two children touched and looked at their new clothes all over the bed, treasuring them very much.

"These are gifts from your cousin. When you grow up, you must treat your cousin well, okay?" Song Xiu'e instructed.
