Chapter 481 I Know What It Feels Like to Be Burned to Death

Chen Yu gazed at the roaring fire in the fireplace, seemingly lost in some distant memory.

Suddenly, he asked Li Yi, "Do you know what it feels like to be burned alive?"

"What?" Li Yi was taken aback by Chen Yu's sudden question, his face full of confusion and bewilderment.

He didn't understand why Chen Yu would ask such a question that seemed out of place in the current situation.

Chen Yu picked up the fire tongs beside the fireplace, poked at the firewood, and slowly said, "I know."

"Hmm~?" Li Yi looked at Chen Yu with a strange expression, somewhat puzzled.

Chen Yu completely ignored Li Yi's reaction and continued, "It's an excruciating pain. First, when the flames touch the skin, they immediately bring an unbearable burning sensation, as if a thousand needles are piercing it simultaneously. Then, the skin begins to blister, turn black, and finally melts, revealing the bright red muscle and bone underneath. The acrid smell accompanies the entire process, almost suffocating you, and you can even feel a tremor from your very soul. When the flames engulf everything, you can't even cry for help; you can only silently endure this hellish torment. Finally, your consciousness will gradually fade away in endless pain and despair. The whole process isn't actually long, but it's enough to condense a lifetime's worth of suffering into that one moment."

A flicker of pain crossed Chen Yu's eyes, but it was quickly replaced by indifference.

He seemed to be telling a story unrelated to himself, but every detail revealed that he had personally experienced this kind of pain.

Li Yi was terrified. Was this Chen Yu a madman?

Although Chen Yu's body was covered in a combat suit, the parts of his body that were exposed did not look like someone who had experienced such horrific burns.

His skin was smooth and flawless, but his eyes held a deep gloom.

That crazed and pained expression made it seem as if he were a witness to it all.

Li Yi swallowed hard, forcing himself to remain calm as he asked, "Chen Yu, what... what exactly are you trying to say?"

Chen Yu withdrew his gaze from the flames. He had already used fire tongs to carve a concave fire pit into the pile of firewood.

Chen Yu slowly stood up and put the fire tongs back in their original position.

Then, he turned to look at Li Yi, a relieved smile on his face: "It's nothing, I was just thinking about some things from the past."

Li Yi frowned deeply. He felt that Chen Yu was not normal, very abnormal!

Looking again at the pile of firewood in the fireplace, which Chen Yu had shaved into a concave shape, an ominous premonition gradually rose in his heart.

"Chen Yu, there's no deep-seated hatred between us. What do you want? What do I have to do for you to let me go?"

Li Yi's voice trembled slightly. He felt an invisible pressure approaching him, as if Chen Yu might do something unpredictable at any moment.

"Li Yi, the grudges of the past life should be settled today. I will send you on your way!" Chen Yu's voice was deep and powerful, each word seemingly squeezed out from between his teeth, carrying an undeniable determination.

With that, he strode toward Li Yi.

Upon seeing this, Li Yi's heart trembled. He disregarded the gunshot wound on his leg and felt as if his body was suddenly injected with boundless strength. He scrambled and crawled toward the entrance to the hidden underground passage beside the bed.

Chen Yu strode forward and stomped hard on Li Yi's injured leg.

"Ah—!" Li Yi screamed in agony, the excruciating pain in his leg almost causing him to faint.

Chen Yu's eyes were filled with coldness and determination. He stomped hard on Li Yi's leg, as if he wanted to vent all his hatred in this moment.

"Trying to run? Not so easy!" Chen Yu's voice was deep and powerful. He bent down, looked at Li Yi who was struggling in pain, and a cold smile appeared on his lips.

Li Yi twisted his body in pain, trying to break free from Chen Yu's grasp, but his injured leg prevented him from moving.

He looked at Chen Yu helplessly, his eyes filled with despair and fear.

"Chen Yu, please let me go, I beg you!" Li Yi's voice was choked with sobs; he was on the verge of collapse.

"Let me go? Then when did you ever let me go in my past life? Those people you oppressed, those people you threw alive into the furnace to burn, did you ever let them go?" Chen Yu's words were as cold as ice, each word seemed to come from the depths of hell, carrying unspeakable anger and sorrow.

"Madman, you madman!" Li Yi roared in despair. He felt a pang of grief in his heart. How could he, a powerful and ruthless man, be driven to such a desperate situation by a madman who spouts nonsense?

He had given up all hope of surviving, so he shouted, "Chen Yu, just kill me! I only ask that you give me a quick death!"

Falling into the hands of such a madman, who knows what he might do to him? He only wishes for a quick death.

"Hmph! You think you can get away with something so easy?" Chen Yu sneered. "You will suffer the same things I did before I died in my previous life."

As Chen Yu spoke, he grabbed Li Yi by the back of his neck and roughly pulled him up, as if he were a helpless chick.

Li Yi's feet were off the ground, and he could only wave his arms helplessly. A "gurgling" sound came from his throat, his face quickly turned red, and he had difficulty breathing.

A flame of revenge flickered in Chen Yu's eyes as he approached step by step the concave fire pit he had deliberately dug out beside the fireplace.

Li Yi's eyes were filled with terror; he could clearly feel the shadow of death gradually enveloping him.
