Chapter 523 Hannibal

Upon entering the canteen of Airship No. 1, Chen Yu was astonished by what he saw.

Inside the mess hall, hundreds of Merika soldiers sat at rows of tables, their plates laden with delicious food. They were quietly enjoying their meals, their faces showing an indescribable sense of ease and relief.

These prisoners seemed unaware that they had become someone else's captives, as if they had finally found a place to rest peacefully after a long and arduous journey.

After Chen Yu and Lin Lele entered the canteen, the soldiers nearby all looked up at them with puzzled expressions before continuing to eat.

If it weren't for the fact that the dishes of the Great Xia Dynasty on the soldiers' plates looked completely out of place with their Merika military uniforms, Chen Yu would have really thought he had come to the wrong place.

"Mr. Chen, over here!" A familiar voice rang out from a corner of the noisy cafeteria, and Niu Sike was waving at Chen Yu.

Liu Menghan sat beside him, looking at Chen Yu with excitement.

Directly opposite them sat two middle-aged white men, one dressed in military combat uniform and the other in a thick white cotton-padded coat.

At this moment, he was looking at Chen Yu not far away with a kind but slightly nervous expression.

Upon seeing this, Chen Yu quickly walked over.

"Chen Yu, you're back just in time! Let's head back immediately and go find that aircraft carrier we encountered yesterday!" Liu Menghan said excitedly.

"Hmm?" Chen Yu raised an eyebrow. "You've found a way to suppress that unknown creature?"

“Yes, Mr. Chen,” Niu Ke replied, his voice tinged with barely concealed excitement.

Then, pointing to the middle-aged man in a cotton-padded coat opposite him, he introduced him: "This is Dr. John, the chief scientist of the 'Project S.H.I.E.L.D.'."

Upon hearing this, Chen Yu immediately focused his gaze on Dr. John, his eyes sparkling with anticipation and curiosity.

He had previously discovered some documents with the words "Project Aegis" in the aircraft carrier's command center, but since he couldn't operate the computer system in the extradimensional space, he was unable to open those documents.

Now, the chief scientist of "Project A.E.L.D." is right in front of us, and it seems that this so-called "Project A.E.L.D." is related to neutrino technology.

However, Neusk and his team were unaware that he had already taken the aircraft carrier and completed its reconnaissance.

Chen Yu didn't intend to let them know about this, so he kept quiet and just watched Niu Ke, waiting for him to continue.

“Mr. Chen, this is probably the first time you’ve heard of the ‘Project A.H.I.E.L.D.’. Let me explain. The ‘Project A.H.I.E.L.D.’ is a military research project sponsored by the US military. The neutrino human is a product of the ‘Project A.H.I.E.L.D.’,” Newsk explained.

"So, you've already mastered the technology to transform between normal human bodies and neutrinos?" Chen Yu asked John with a look of surprise and doubt.

“Mr. Chen, you’re joking. We don’t have that kind of ability,” John said with a wry smile. “To be precise, it was that military doctor named Hannibal who acquired this ability by chance.”

"A coincidence? An ability?" Chen Yu frowned. Why did it sound so fantastical?

“Well, do you remember the global blackout a few days before this natural disaster?” the middle-aged man in military uniform next to John interjected.

“Mr. Chen, this is the captain of that aircraft carrier, Colonel Paul,” Newsk introduced at the opportune moment.

Chen Yu nodded slightly and said to Paul, "Go on."

Paul took a deep breath, as if to gather his thoughts, before slowly speaking: "After that global blackout, our country discovered a crystal emitting unknown energy on the west coast. Through testing, we found that it contained boundless energy. So we immediately began research on it, and that's how 'Project Aegis' came about. This is a top national secret. To prevent leaks and to avoid any impact on our Merika homeland from a sudden energy leak, this project was carried out on our aircraft carrier."

"You mean, this technology comes from that major blackout?" Chen Yu frowned.

"To be precise, it was probably this 'energy stone' that caused the blackout," John added, his eyes filled with seriousness and awe.

Chen Yu frowned. Based on his previous life's experience, the global blackout was undoubtedly caused by an electromagnetic storm triggered by the cosmic particle beam that caused the sun to go out. But seeing John's certainty, Chen Yu couldn't help but wonder if there was some secret he didn't know.

"Dr. John, why are you so sure that this 'energy stone' is the culprit behind the blackout?" Chen Yu decided to ask directly, wanting to know the basis of Dr. John's deduction.

"This energy stone was only discovered after the major power outage, and it was on a scenic beach. Isn't that obvious?" John said matter-of-factly.

"So this is just your deduction?" Chen Yu was speechless.

“But the natural disaster struck just a few days later, and we haven’t had time to do a more in-depth analysis yet.” Dr. John’s voice carried a hint of helplessness and explanation. “But all indications suggest that the appearance of that energy stone is inextricably linked to the blackout. Moreover, since we started studying it, all sorts of anomalies have emerged, including Hannibal’s mutation.”

Dr. John rubbed his hands together, looking both excited and slightly uneasy: "First, the electronic equipment on the aircraft carrier started malfunctioning frequently. At first, we thought it was just ordinary electromagnetic interference, but then these malfunctions became more and more frequent and inexplicable. Then, some people on the carrier began to experience hallucinations, severe mood swings, and some even experienced temporary memory loss. We initially thought it was some kind of unknown virus or radiation, but after a comprehensive inspection, we found no trace of any biological or radioactive materials."
