Chapter 527 Welcome Dinner

Chen Yu, Lin Lele, and others reached an agreement to accept Colonel Paul and his soldiers, including Merika, into the "Cold Relief Militia Corps".

Upon hearing the news, Colonel Paul was overjoyed and wept: "Great! We've finally found our people!"

That afternoon, the militia held a simple yet solemn welcoming ceremony in an open space outside, officially accepting Colonel Paul and the remnants of the aircraft carrier USS Merica "Fu" into the "Cold Relief Militia Corps".

On this day, the original "Cold Relief Militia Corps" was officially upgraded to the "International Cold Relief Militia Corps".

To welcome Colonel Paul and others to the relief team, the legion hosted a special dinner with a more lavish spread than usual.

The soldiers of Merika felt the warmth of the militia and enjoyed the sumptuous meal, and couldn't help but shed tears of emotion.

After escaping from the aircraft carrier, they intended to seek refuge with other ships in the carrier strike group, but to their surprise, all those people had already fled, and even the supplies had been taken away by those soldiers.

Fortunately, not many people escaped from the aircraft carrier. They collected some leftover supplies from the warehouses on several ships, which was enough for them to last for a while. At least they would be able to reach the continent of Merica.

Even so, of the 236 people who successfully escaped the aircraft carrier, dozens died on the way, some from starvation and others from freezing.

Finally, after a difficult journey of nearly 2,000 kilometers across the icy sea, they arrived at the continent of Merica, only to find that the situation was not as good as they had imagined.

Having barely survived until now, dozens more have starved and frozen to death.

Of the 236 people who escaped together, only 112 remain; more than half have died.

In their extreme hunger, they even considered cannibalism.

Fortunately, just when they were in utter despair, a huge "cold-resistant disaster relief airship" appeared in their field of vision.

Like rain after a long drought, they saw hope for survival.

Looking at the faces of the Xia people, they didn't care whether the other party was friend or foe, or what their intentions were, and immediately decided to surrender.

The other side is clearly a wealthy and powerful nation with no shortage of supplies. In any case, surrendering and becoming a prisoner would at least give them something to eat, which is better than starving or freezing to death there.

As they enjoyed this sumptuous dinner, they felt as if they were dreaming. They had been barely surviving, but had suddenly become members of the "International Militia Corps for Cold Relief and Disaster Relief." From now on, they would not only have food and clothing and a reliable source of support, but they would also be engaged in a sacred and great cause—cold relief and disaster relief.

However, what they didn't know was that Chen Yu's "cold relief and disaster relief" was not the kind of "cold relief and disaster relief" they understood.

Of course, it's not to say that Chen Yu was planning to do something bad, but at least his starting point wasn't for "disaster relief."

What he wants to save are those precious scientific research materials, including high-tech equipment and top scientific research talents. Incidentally, he also wants to build several more "Tianyu Base branch bases" to serve the overall strategy of the Tianyu Base.

But this isn't necessarily all bad for the people of Mereka.

At least, if things proceed as Chen Yu envisioned, the Tianyu base headquarters would reap the rewards, and these overseas branches would get a share of the spoils. This was far better than them running amok, fighting amongst themselves, squandering their resources, and ultimately heading towards destruction.

At this moment, Chen Yu, Lin Lele, Niu Kesi, Zhao Feng, and other leaders of the Tianyu Base, as well as the leaders of the Tianyu Base's "International Militia Regiment for Cold Relief and Disaster Relief," were also sitting around a table in the canteen, discussing the next steps together.

Along with them were Liu Menghan, the temporarily resigned deputy director of the Science and Technology Department of Tianyu Haidu Branch Base, as well as newly joined Colonel Paul and Dr. John.

"Hehe, Deputy Commander Paul, Dr. John, welcome to our family." Chen Yu raised his glass to Colonel Paul and Dr. John, his eyes filled with expectation and trust. "I believe that with your addition, our strength will be even greater."

Colonel Paul also raised his glass, his voice tinged with excitement: "Thank you, Mr. Chen, for your acceptance. We will do our utmost to contribute to the Legion and the 'cold relief and disaster relief' cause."

Dr. John, on the other hand, appeared more reserved. He smiled and nodded, saying, "I am delighted to continue my research, especially in such a hopeful and promising environment."

In order to ensure that these Merika soldiers would better pledge their loyalty to the militia, and to facilitate the militia's subsequent "cold relief" work in Merika, Chen Yu directly appointed the newly joined Colonel Paul as the deputy commander of the airship formation for this "cold relief" mission, and gave him partial command authority in the Merika area, responsible for coordinating and managing all the newly joined Merika soldiers and subsequent "rescue" operations.

John, as the chief scientist of Merica's highly classified "Project Shield," naturally has some skills.

Chen Yu has always valued talent, so he generously allocated a laboratory to him on the No. 1 airship so that he could continue to carry out scientific research projects, and appointed him as the chief scientist of the "anti-cold disaster relief" airship formation.

Chen Yu naturally didn't expect John to be able to make anything out of this limited airship laboratory. The reason for this arrangement was simply to make John feel valued.

Besides valuing John's personal abilities, he also wanted John to show him the way.

After all, John, as a top scientist who closely cooperated with the Merica military, must have been very familiar with the distribution of Merica's various high-tech projects.
