After some hesitation, Gu Chu picked up Rong Shi's bath towel, wrapped it around herself, and left the bathroom.
She had three choices: put on her wet clothes that she had changed out of; wear the clothes from Rong Shi's dressing room; or wrap herself in the blanket and go back to the next room.
Gu Chu ultimately chose to wrap the blanket on the bed around herself.
Gu Chu, wrapped in a gray plaid down comforter, hunched her neck and looked like a fat and silly quail.
She cautiously approached the door and gently pressed her ear against it to listen carefully to what was happening outside. However, both the door and the walls were too soundproof, and she couldn't hear anything.
After hesitating for a while, she still couldn't bring herself to open the door.
In the living room, Rong Shi was sitting on the sofa chatting with Grandpa Rong.
He glanced at the time and saw that an hour had passed. He looked up at the tightly closed door.
Another half hour passed, and Gu Chu's legs were numb from standing. She took a deep breath and looked down again to check if there were any exposed areas on her body. Seeing that everything was safe, she pulled open the door and rushed into the next room, slamming the door shut behind her.
Rong Shi, with his sharp eyes, looked up and saw a gray figure flash into the next room. He got up, walked to the door, and looked into his own room.
He immediately understood what was going on when he saw that the blankets were missing from the bed.
He couldn't help but smile.
Gu Chu got dressed, grabbed a blanket, and knocked on Rong Shi's door.
"Enter."
Gu Chu pushed open the door: "I borrowed your blanket just now. If you mind, I can exchange it with you?"
Rong Shi didn't say whether she minded or not, but just looked at her and said, "I have some newly bought furniture and clothes in my walk-in closet."
Gu Chu placed the blanket on his bed and glared at him resentfully.
He thought to himself: Why didn't you say so earlier!
Winter comes early in the north, and it gets dark very quickly.
After receiving a phone call, Rong Shi went downstairs to the first floor, where someone was delivering groceries to him outside the villa.
After Rong Shi spent an hour in the kitchen, five dishes and a soup were laid out on the dining table.
Gu Chu was somewhat surprised to receive a call from Rong Shi and learn that the food was ready.
As soon as I went downstairs, I saw several steaming home-style dishes on the table.
"Did you make this?" Gu Chu walked to the dining table and looked at Rong Shi, who was serving rice, with surprise.
"Hmm, give it a try. If it doesn't suit your taste, you can order takeout."
Gu Chu sat down, picked up her chopsticks, took a piece of tofu, and put it in her mouth. It tasted good.
The two ate their meal in silence when Gu Chu suddenly spoke up: "I didn't expect you to know how to cook. I thought someone from a family like yours would disdain cooking. There's a saying, 'A gentleman keeps away from the kitchen.'"
Rong Shi stopped eating and looked at Gu Chu very seriously.
"Those who achieve great things should not be bothered by trifles. In addition, the saying 'a gentleman keeps away from the kitchen' has a deeper meaning. A true gentleman not only needs to pay attention to his own character and cultivation, but also to the social atmosphere and people's values. He should stay away from things he should not do and be brave enough to take on his responsibilities and obligations."
Gu Chu never expected that her casual remark would be met with such a long lecture from Rong Shi.
She ate with seemingly resentful mouthfuls, her bulging mouth moving back and forth, much like a wronged pufferfish.
Rong Shi continued, "Aside from what I just said, to put it simply, food is the most important thing for people. Eating is the most basic condition for a person to live, and this does not conflict with my background."
Gu Chu was completely speechless.
In her understanding of Rong Shi, he was a ruthless and taciturn person. Whenever he spoke, he would be concise and to the point, and he would never speak if he could express something with his eyes.
Today, he overturned Gu Chu's previous perception of him.
It turns out he wasn't just quiet; he could also speak at length and had excellent eloquence, capable of leaving others speechless.
The next day——
Gu Chu followed Rong Shi to the Rong family's old residence. The Rong family's old residence is located in a development zone in the city center. It is an antique courtyard with a large area, at least several thousand square meters, and should have been left by their ancestors.
The two remained silent in the car, the atmosphere heavy with tension.
Gu Chu suddenly spoke up: "Rong Shi, let's play a song!"
Rong Shi did not answer, but instead proved that he had heard through his actions.
Soon, music started playing in the car—"Listen, the bugle call of the new journey sounds, the goal of building a strong military beckons us forward, if the nation is to be strong, we will proudly shoulder our responsibilities, the battle flag is inscribed with the glory of iron and blood..."
Listening to this inspiring song, Gu Chu felt her blood boiling, as if she were about to go to the battlefield.
She's going to meet the other person's elders today, so she can't let her emotions get affected.
"Um, I don't want to listen anymore," Gu Chu said, trying to stop her.
Rong Shi turned off the music.
Before long, the two arrived at the Rong family's residence. The butler, having been notified, was already waiting at the gate. Upon seeing Rong Shi's car arrive, he greeted him with a smile.
"Young Master, you're finally back!" The butler warmly opened the car door for Rong Shi.
Upon seeing Gu Chu, the butler asked with a smile, "This must be the young mistress?"
Rong Shi looked at Gu Chu, who was getting off the car: "This is Uncle Fu, the Rong family's butler."
Gu Chu gave Uncle Fu a polite smile and said, "Hello, Uncle Fu!"
The butler smiled politely: "Young Madam, you're too kind. Please come in!"
The butler followed behind the two and shouted loudly into the house, "Master! The young master and young mistress have arrived!"
Rong Shi and Gu Chu walked side by side. When they were almost at the lobby, Rong Shi suddenly grabbed Gu Chu's hand.
Gu Chu was taken aback and turned to look at Rong Shi.
Rong Shi knew without looking that Gu Chu would have objections, so he said, "Grandpa is very shrewd, so we should be careful in front of him."
Gu Chu remained silent; her silence spoke volumes, and this time she agreed with Rong Shi.
The two entered the hall, and Rong Shi said to the sprightly old man Rong in the ancestral hall, "Grandpa, how are you feeling? Are you feeling better?"
