Chapter 29 The Reasons for Pei Zhenwei's Betrayal
Xu Lingzhao looked at Ji Cunxi coldly, her heart filled with disgust for this woman. She didn't want to get entangled with her any longer: "Bai Feng, take her back."
As soon as she finished speaking, Ji Cunxi, who had been staring intently at her, turned grim. She took a deep breath, tucked her hair behind her ear, and said arrogantly, "What do you mean by this? Turning your back on me?" Her eyes glanced at the bouquet of flowers in Xu Lingzhao's hand, and her voice was almost squeezed out through clenched teeth: "You used me and now you want to just walk away? You got all the benefits?"
“Be careful what you say, I’ve never seen you before.” Xu Lingzhao’s lips curled slightly: “I only know that you are Ji Yao’s daughter.”
"You! You're Yu Lingyue! What are you pretending for?" Ji Cunxi pointed at Xu Lingzhao, frowning, looking incredulous. Indeed, Xu Lingzhao was with her in a completely different guise.
"I don't know the person you're talking about. If you continue to pester me, I will kill you." Xu Lingzhao withdrew his gaze and entered the villa gate surrounded by a group of people. Pei Zhenwei had already been transferred to the base. After a busy day, she went straight to the master bedroom on the second floor.
Xu Lingzhao pushed open the door. Without turning on the light, everything was shrouded in darkness. A mound on the soft bed seemed to refuse anyone's approach. Xu Lingzhao reached out and turned on the heater. The "click" was particularly clear in the quiet environment. She saw the mound of blankets move slightly.
Xu Lingzhao took off her coat and slowly approached the bedside. Her well-defined knuckles gently pulled down the blanket, revealing a person with their eyes closed inside. Their eyelashes trembled slightly, and their cheeks were flushed from being covered for so long. The rich, sweet scent of pheromones instantly filled the entire room. She brought the bouquet of white roses close to Chu Jingze's cheek.
Soft petals brushed against his cheek, and Chu Jing slightly opened his eyes. He touched the petals with his hand, looked at Xu Lingzhao who was smiling at him, and asked softly, "For me?"
Xu Lingzhao touched his cheek, slipped his forearm under his knees, and lifted him up onto his lap with a little force, his lips brushing against his rounded earlobe: "I bought this for you on a special occasion while passing through Flora Star, do you like it?"
"I like... What kind of place is Flora?" Chu Jing shook his head slightly to avoid her kiss, unable to bear the tingling sensation. His body temperature rose instantly, and he bit his lip, his face revealing a hint of grievance.
"Flora is a planet where flowers are mainly grown. It's very beautiful. I'll take you there once it's built, okay?" Xu Lingzhao pinched his chin with her hand, making him look up and meet her gaze. "Don't believe what she says. I've only ever had you, no one else." The thin calluses on her fingers made his fair skin turn slightly red.
Chu Jingze's eyes welled up with tears, and his voice choked with emotion: "I...I..."
Seeing his pitiful appearance, Xu Lingzhao felt a pang of heartache. She gently kissed his lips, her fingers kneading his swollen glands, constantly soothing him. After a long while, Xu Lingzhao wiped away the water from the corner of his mouth and met his somewhat aroused gaze: "I know you might not believe what I'm saying now, but I will prove it with my actions in the future. Don't be sad anymore, okay?"
Under her gentle advances, Chu Jing felt like he had turned into a puddle of water. His mind was blank, and he only felt that the person in front of him was very gentle. He nodded randomly, put his arms around her neck, and said softly, "Hmm... I believe you. You can't let anyone else hug you in the future. Only I can."
When Xu Lingzhao heard Chu Jingze's blunt words for the first time, she was pleasantly surprised. She immediately realized that Chu Jingze must have seen the StarNet photo of Mo Zhiyan hugging her. In front of Chu Jingze, she contacted Song Shuci and asked her to deal with these kinds of gossip.
She turned off the personal computer screen, nuzzled his nose with hers, and said in a doting tone, "Only you can hug me." Seeing that Chu Jingze was in a much better mood, she continued, "Aren't you a little bored at home? How about we go to headquarters tomorrow?"
Chu Jing nodded. He wanted to know more about her and who she usually associated with. He blinked and leaned his head against Xu Lingzhao's chest: "Then, in what capacity should I go?"
Xu Lingzhao reached out and opened the red velvet ring box on the bedside table. His fingers deftly took out the ring, and with his other hand, he gently lifted the ring onto the ring finger of the boy's right hand. "What do you think?" A smile finally appeared in his eyes as he looked at the boy.
Xu Lingzhao picked him up and carried him into the bathroom, kissing his neck affectionately: "Now it's your turn to comfort me."
Pei Zhenwei was led into a special room with no windows, only a small vent. To leave, she had to undergo an iris scan by someone with authority. Looking around, there was a bed, a chair, a table, and a small bathroom. The bed was covered with neatly folded clothes.
On the table was a steaming plate of food. She licked her dry lips, picked up her spoon, and ate it in big mouthfuls. Her eyes stung, and her thoughts drifted to an ordinary afternoon.
They grew up together, both families were prominent, and everyone assumed they would be together. She had liked Huo Qi for many years, until she realized that every time they bumped into each other by chance, she would look at Huo Qi, but Huo Qi's gaze was always fixed on Xu Lingzhao.
At that time, he probably just admired Xu Lingzhao. She never expressed her feelings and only wanted to wait for the right time to make them. But she always helped him and protected him silently.
That day, after the two families had finished their meal, Pei Zhenwei followed behind Huo Qi as they strolled in the garden. The sunlight shone on him, as if gilding him with gold. Just as she was about to speak, Huo Qi spoke first: "Why does Xu Lingzhao like Chu Jingze?" He turned to face Pei Zhenwei, his handsome eyes filled with incomprehension.
It seems that an answer is urgently needed.
“They… Ling Zhao said she saved Chu Jingze before she came to Sandhurst, um… I guess it was love at first sight.” Pei Zhenwei spoke cautiously, observing Huo Qi’s expression. An answer was about to come to her mind. She swallowed and asked with some difficulty, “You… like her?”
"Hmm." Huo Qi's expression was calm, as if he were acknowledging something very ordinary.
Pei Zhengwei's lips trembled slightly as she forcefully suppressed her emotions: "And what about me?"
Upon hearing this, Huo Qi frowned deeply: "You? I've always considered you a friend." His words pierced Pei Zhenwei's heart like needles. She forcefully pulled Huo Qi's wrist, pinched the back of his neck, and forced him to look up. Feeling his struggle, Pei Zhenwei could no longer resist kissing his lips.
She only stopped when Huo Qi bit her tongue, then Huo Qi raised his hand and slapped her, breathing heavily as he glared at her and left the garden.
Pei Zhengwei stood rooted to the spot, the taste of blood filling her mouth. She savored the kiss; it was so sweet. She wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth with her fingers. She couldn't bear the thought of Huo Qi liking someone else; Huo Qi could only be hers. She knew Huo Qi admired strength.
But she didn't think she was much worse than Xu Lingzhao. An inexplicable emotion welled up inside her. Later, Huo Qi deliberately avoided her until Xu Lingzhao decided to go to Xites. In the conference room, she said that Huo Qi was secretly assisting her. Only then did she have a chance to see Huo Qi, but his attitude was cold, so cold that Pei Zhenwei couldn't stand it.
Just then, Lu Qianxue assigned her a task to clear out a newly discovered Zerg nest in the border forest. As she set off, it started to drizzle and the sky was misty.
Upon arriving at their destination, they followed the route inwards, but a layer of black fog gradually filled the surroundings. Realizing something was wrong, they tried to turn back, but all communication devices malfunctioned. The main group had lost their way, and panic quickly spread among everyone.
Pei Zhenwei smashed the wireless communication device on the ground. She saw countless green eyes open in the black mist. In a situation where death was almost certain, she picked up the pulse rifle in her hand, quickly adjusted the formation, and hatred flashed in her eyes. Lu Qianxue actually wanted to kill her!
The roars of the Zerg and the screams of the Planetary Army mingled together, constantly assaulting Pei Zhenwei's nerves. She was bitten by the Zerg like an arrow, but even though they fought with all their might, the number of Zerg did not decrease but increased, until... Pei Zhenwei lowered her head, her chest pierced by a Zerg stinger.
She spat out a large amount of blood. As the stinger was pulled out, she knelt on the ground. Her helmet had already fallen off, and her hair was stuck to her face. Her body did not fall down. She just stood there in the chaotic crowd. Her pupils were unfocused, and the blood flowing from her mouth congealed into a paste, dripping down drop by drop.
A green crystal core appeared before her, emitting a faint light. The sounds of her teammates fighting gradually faded, and Pei Zhenwei felt as if she were floating outside her body, her consciousness gradually blurring.
Just as she was about to close her eyes completely, a highly deceptive voice rang out: "Are you unwilling to die here? Do you want to live? Do you want to possess great power?"
Pei Zhenwei's pupils twitched slightly, and she struggled to lift her eyelids. She was certain that the sound came from the green-glowing crystal core.
"As long as you eat me, you can live and gain power." The crystal core kept talking, relentlessly tempting its inhabitants.
Pei Zhenwei knew she had no way out. She wanted to take a gamble. People's will to survive is often strongest at the last moment. So she slowly reached out her hand towards the crystal core that was like Pandora's box. What would happen if she ate it? No one knew, but the worst consequence would be certain death.
But now that she was at her last gasp, did she have any other choice? No, she put the crystal core in her mouth and swallowed it.
Pei Zhenwei felt an unfamiliar power enter her spiritual sea of consciousness. At the same time, another consciousness appeared in her spiritual sea of consciousness. The black mist dissipated, and she stood up shakily. Looking at the corpses and severed limbs scattered all over the ground, she took out a miniature iron shovel from her backpack and opened it. A large iron shovel appeared in her hand.
She kept digging deep pits, seemingly without feeling tired, and buried all the corpses in a day and a night. She was covered in mud and looked utterly disheveled.
She found a stone and carved her epitaph on it with a dagger, her palm already a bloody mess.
After doing all this, Pei Zhenwei staggered out of the border forest. A voice that didn't belong to her echoed in her mind: "I will parasitize you as payment for your resurrection." She didn't respond to this. She still had many things to do. She felt her mental sea was more abundant than ever before. She met the rescue team that was searching for her.
Lu Qianxue rushed to her anxiously. Pei Zhenwei looked at her hypocritical appearance and reached out to grab her neck hard. Lu Qianxue's face turned red quickly, but because of her weak body, she was able to break free quickly.
The next second, she felt a sharp pain in her neck; Ling Qianzhu was injecting a sedative into her neck.
My vision gradually blurred, the world spun, and I completely lost consciousness.
