Good news, veteran fan Li Shiguang has been reborn and reincarnated as a rich second-generation.
Bad news, his father, who was Leeds United's largest shareholder, passed away right before...
Before the match even started, the war of words between the four head coaches had already spread like wildfire online.
Mourinho and Benitez are doing well, but the gap between Chelsea and Liverpool has been quite large in the last two years.
Even though Mourinho was quite arrogant in his pre-match interview, believing that Liverpool had no chance to fight back, Benitez, who had just lost his playmaker Deisler, did not confront him directly. He simply humbly stated that Liverpool would fight with all their might, and whether they could win depended on the players' performance on the field.
But the relationship between Ferguson and Wenger was not so uneventful.
The feud between the two has a long history. From Ferguson calling Wenger a "rookie coach" to Wenger criticizing Ferguson for breaking the rules and forcing the FA to change Manchester United's schedule, the verbal sparring between the two managers has become a spectacle on the field every time Manchester United and Arsenal clash.
Amidst this noisy atmosphere, at 8 p.m., both matches kicked off simultaneously at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford.
The first half of both matches was relatively uneventful.
Although Liverpool seemed to take the initiative at Stamford Bridge after the start of the match, they struggled to create clear-cut chances against Chelsea's tight defense, managing very few shots on target.
Furthermore, Li Shiguang could see something from Liverpool's formation: Liverpool was very afraid of Chelsea seizing opportunities to launch quick counter-attacks. Drogba, Robben, and Shevchenko were positioned in the center circle, requiring Liverpool to send players out to mark them closely. And one-on-one wasn't enough; given Drogba's physical attributes, you couldn't stop him from getting going unless you had two defenders on him! This made Liverpool hesitant and cautious in their attacks, unwilling to commit their full strength.
Just as Li Shiguang had predicted.
Near the end of the first half, Gerrard was dispossessed by Lampard just outside the penalty area. Lampard took a couple of steps and then passed the ball to Drogba near the center circle. Drogba used his body to shield Carragher and then passed the ball to Robben on the right wing.
Robben dribbled into Liverpool's penalty area, drawing most of the defense before passing the ball back to Drogba, who unleashed an unstoppable powerful shot. 1-0, Chelsea took the lead in the first half!
At Old Trafford, Manchester United and Arsenal played a back-and-forth game, and their performance was more aesthetically pleasing than at Stamford Bridge. Unfortunately, neither team scored in the first half, and the second half ended 0-0.
Fifteen minutes later, all four teams returned to the field.
Chelsea suffered a blow in the 51st minute when Ballack was sent off with a straight red card for a tackle from behind. With one less player, Chelsea had to retreat even further, parking the bus right on the edge of the penalty area.
After watching for nearly 10 minutes, and seeing Gerrard's long-range shot go high and wide again, Li Shiguang couldn't help but shake his head. Deisler's retirement had indeed had a significant impact on Liverpool. Facing Chelsea's tight defense, they couldn't find a way to break through. It seemed that even with an extra man, they couldn't make much of a difference.
After making his decision, Li Shiguang focused all his attention on the Manchester United vs. Arsenal match.
However, both teams were all talk and no action until the 84th minute when Fabregas took a corner kick, and Adebayor, hiding at the far post, outjumped Ferdinand to head the ball into the goal, breaking the deadlock. Arsenal then maintained their lead until the end of the match.
After the match, the camera focused on the two head coaches on the sidelines.
Interestingly, Wenger, who had just won the match, went to shake hands with Ferguson immediately after the game. However, Ferguson looked livid and pretended not to see Wenger approaching, instead slipping into the players' tunnel.
This made Li Shiguang, who was sitting on the sofa and watching this scene, burst out laughing...
