Chapter 37 Bian Xi's Confession

Chapter 37 Bian Xi's Confession

In her memory, her father always came home drunk because of work. So she figured this time would be no exception.

“It’s okay, don’t worry, we believe he can handle it,” Su He said. “He’s always been able to do that all these years.”

"Hmm..." Momo stopped talking and lowered her head to eat her breakfast in peace.

"Oh, right, I'm going to buy a gift today. You can also ask Qiqi if there's anything she particularly wants to eat, and we can send it to her at the same time," Su He reminded her before leaving the kitchen.

Momo nodded in agreement as she chewed on her bread.

After breakfast, Momo texted Qiqi and then went out with Bian Xi. He said that he found many places had changed since he came back, but he hadn't had a chance to go out and explore for several days, so he asked her to go with him.

Momo agreed without hesitation after hearing him say that.

The two drove to places they used to frequent, each bearing the marks of time, especially the sycamore-lined avenue they had walked countless times before. It was the only way to school and a place they often walked together.

The lush sycamore leaves cast dappled sunlight onto their shoulders.

"Momo, do you remember? One summer, you fell down here because of the rain, and when you saw me coming, you cried, tears streaming down your face." Bian Xi couldn't help but laugh as he spoke, still vividly remembering Momo's aggrieved expression at that time.

Momo laughed and turned to look at him, "Brother Bian Xi, why are you bringing up my embarrassing moments?"

“It’s not embarrassing at all. I remember back then, even your crying was so touching.” His words were bold, with a hint of probing.

Momo smiled but didn't say anything more.

Finally, in the afternoon they went to a wetland park. It's famous for its red-crowned cranes, which fly in large numbers from the north every winter.

Momo used to enjoy coming here whenever she had free time. Even though there were no red-crowned cranes to see, she would still habitually come here to spend some time.

Bian Xi arrived and parked the car. The two walked towards the center of the park, which was still full of vibrant greenery even though it was just the beginning of autumn.

"Brother Bian Xi, I heard you're going to start working at the company next week?" Momo looked up at him and asked.

"Yes, I need to go to the company as my dad's assistant first to familiarize myself with the work process. I'll take over once I'm more comfortable with it," Bian Xi said.

Momo smiled and said, "You're so smart, you do everything so quickly."

When he was in school, Bian Xi was a well-known academic star. He was good-looking, from a good family, had good grades, and a good personality. Back then, he was the white moonlight of many girls in the school.

"Wow, hearing you say that puts pressure on me." Bian Xi smiled and said, "Then I'll have to work even harder to live up to your trust."

Momo smiled too, "I believe you."

Bian Xi looked at her sincere and earnest face and couldn't help but feel moved. He reached out and touched her hair, and said with a smile, "Then let's work hard together."

“Okay.” Momo knew he was referring to her dream.

Because it wasn't yet the season for seeing red-crowned cranes, the bare grassland didn't have its own beautiful moment until the sunset painted the western sky.

"Look, Brother Bian Xi..."

Just then, a white egret flew by in mid-air, its silhouette seemingly imprinted in a sunset painting, flapping its wings toward the west.

Momo excitedly pointed ahead to him, then took out her phone to take some photos to share with her mother and Qiqi.

"Yes, I saw it." Bian Xi stood behind her, holding up his phone, capturing the beautiful moment along with the scenery and the person.

Even though it's just a view from behind, the person in the photo is still incredibly beautiful.

Momo, standing in front, was completely unaware of what was happening behind her. After sharing the photo, she put away her phone and looked back at him.

"It's getting late, why don't we head back soon?" Momo said.

Today, Dad finally decided to stay home and rest for a day, saying he would have Aunt Zhang cook a good meal so that both families could get together.

“Okay,” Bian Xi agreed readily.

The two drove back to the residential area. It was already dark. Bian Xi parked the car in front of her own house, intending to walk over later.

After the car came to a complete stop, Momo unbuckled her seatbelt and prepared to get out, but before the door could even open, Bian Xi reached out and grabbed her.

"Momo...wait a minute."

Momo released her hand from the doorknob and immediately turned to look at him, thinking he had something else to say. "What's wrong, Brother Bian Xi?"

"I have a gift for you." Bian Xi took out a bag that had been prepared next to her and handed it to her. "It's a necklace I bought in England. I saw it while shopping and thought it would suit you very well."

Momo was a little confused by the gift he suddenly gave her. Although she didn't know why he wanted to give it to her, she still accepted it with a smile. Looking at the exquisite bag, she knew that the contents probably wouldn't be cheap.

Although she didn't really want to accept such an expensive gift, she was still happy to accept it when he said it was specially bought for her.

"Thank you, Brother Bian Xi."

"You're welcome. Let me put it on you and see how it works." Bian Xi took the box out from inside and opened it for her.

"Okay," Momo replied.

Bian Xi opened the box and took out the necklace inside. Momo quickly moved closer so he could fasten the necklace at the back.

The cool pendant pressed against her skin; it was a circular ring surrounded by pink diamonds, and she lowered her head to touch it.

"You can take the mirror down to see, otherwise you probably won't be able to see the overall effect," Bian Xi reminded her.

"Oh, okay..." Momo immediately looked up and put the mirror down.

As soon as the mirror fell, Momo instinctively shrank back. She didn't expect that along with the mirror, there was also a red rope with something hanging from it, swaying and hitting the mirror.

Momo followed the red string downwards and saw that what was hanging below it was a ring.

Momo's heart couldn't help but tighten as she watched.

Just as she was about to turn her head to look at him, Bian Xi's gentle voice reached her ears, "Momo..."

Momo immediately turned to look at him, her heart pounding rapidly.

There was a strange sense of anticipation, but mostly a feeling of helpless joy.

"I hope I didn't scare you." Seeing her nervously clutching her clothes, Bian Xi couldn't help but chuckle softly, trying to ease the tension.

Momo remained stunned; she felt something was amiss.

"There are some things I've kept in my heart for a long time. I thought about them for a long time before I came back this time, especially after seeing you. I became even more determined to say them as soon as possible."

"Do you remember? Several years ago you asked me casually, 'Someone as outstanding as me must have an outstanding girlfriend in the future, right?'"

“Actually, I already had someone I liked back then.” Bian Xi looked into her eyes with a smile and anticipation.

"But the girl was still young at the time, and I was afraid that saying it suddenly would scare her. Besides, I didn't know what she was thinking, so I was quite unsure."

As he spoke, Bian Xi reached out and took the ring off the red string. He looked down and felt for the ring in his hand, then looked up at Momo.

"But I know that waiting won't get me anywhere, so I'm going to try asking..."

“Brother Bian Xi…” she called his name almost subconsciously.

It seemed that she already had the answer in her heart at that moment, judging from his paused words.

"Momo, would you give me a chance to be my girlfriend?"

When Bian Xi said those words, he suddenly became a little nervous.

Perhaps no matter how outstanding a person is, they will feel a little powerless when facing the person they like. They may wonder if they can successfully realize their desire for the person they want.
