A survival game sweeps across the globe.
Without time to prepare, Xia Ning is thrown onto an endless highway.
To survive, she must keep moving forward: highway survival, maritime advent...
There was little noise in the tavern; it was a typical place where the first floor was used for selling alcohol and the second floor was used for living.
Xia Ning didn't see any zombies, but she did deal with two mutated rats.
She also played billiards behind the bar for a while, and there were many cigarette butts and beer cans scattered around the table.
After a short rest, in the afternoon, Xia Ning, the three of them, and the cat continued their journey towards the embassy.
The embassy of the country is located in the large city ahead.
If nothing unexpected happens, Xia Ning and the others should arrive in three hours.
However, after getting into the car, Xia Ning felt that it would be a surprise if there were no surprises.
She glanced at Memi through the rearview mirror. No matter how much the heavily pregnant woman tried to hide it, she couldn't erase the fatigue on her face and her obvious anxiety.
Memi probably didn't even realize that she was subtly shifting her body almost every five minutes, and her breathing was becoming increasingly heavy.
The younger sister jumped off Xiong Xue's knees, darted to the back seat, and obediently nestled next to Mei Mi.
Even the oblivious Xiong Xue noticed Mei Mi's lack of attention and kept giving Xia Ning meaningful glances.
Xia Ning stopped the car, glanced at Mei Mi's slightly unfocused pupils, and decisively turned around and returned to the small bar she had just left.
Mei Mi was truly out of her mind; she only slowly asked, "What's wrong?" after Xia Ning opened the back door for her.
Xia Ning frowned and said, "Are you about to give birth?"
Memi's lips moved as if she wanted to argue, but in the end she only let out a painful groan.
Xiong Xue, this 18-year-old who had just entered adulthood, was stunned: "Really, you're really going to have a baby?"
"Otherwise what?" Xia Ning said irritably.
Then, with a quick bend, he picked up Meimi in a princess carry and told Xiong Xue to bring the portable gas stove to boil water.
The bear nodded frantically, like a chick pecking at rice.
He didn't know what to do. Xia Ning told him to boil water, so he boiled water like crazy, a pot of rainwater and a pot of mineral water.
Xia Ning didn't know how to deliver a baby!
As a single, unmarried young woman, her knowledge of childbirth came mainly from online novels and a little bit of basic information she had learned from Dao Xiaoqin's nursing book.
Now that we've escorted them all here, we can't let it end up with three lives lost.
Almost the instant Xia Ning carried Mei Mi out of the car, Mei Mi's water broke.
Having no other choice, Xia Ning washed her hands and mixed a vial of [Basic Nutrient Solution] and a vial of [Basic Detox Solution] into the milk and fed it to Mei Mi to help her maintain her strength.
In ancient Chinese novels, pregnant women are often depicted holding ginger slices in their mouths; it's essentially the same idea.
She knew that entertainment works were not worthy of consideration, but what did she know? She could only try anything as a last resort.
Despite Xia Ning's calm demeanor, she was just as flustered as Xiong Xue, but she was afraid that if she caused panic, Mei Mi would become even more anxious.
Which pregnant woman doesn't want to give birth in a hospital and receive professional care?
Meimi was born in a completely unfamiliar environment, with two strangers as her midwives. Zombies could break through the window at any moment. Just thinking about giving birth under such circumstances made Xia Ning's scalp tingle.
She almost moved her hands and feet together.
"Tying a rope, yes, in period dramas they always hang a rope for pregnant women to pull on for leverage."
Xia Ning now has to talk to herself while doing things, otherwise her mind will get confused and she won't know what to do.
When it comes to giving birth, it really depends on the mother's efforts. Xia Ning realized that besides shouting "Go for it! Push harder!", she couldn't think of any other way to help Mei Mi.
Meimi, a woman who never complained of feeling unwell throughout the journey, even when riding in Xia Ning's bumper cars, simply acted as a safety cushion for herself.
Now, she has lost her former elegance and is no longer afraid that her voice will attract the zombies around her.
Because she simply couldn't care less.
Xiong Xue stood guard outside the room with a wrench in hand, listening to the cries of pain coming from inside. His eyes welled up with tears, and he took a deep sniff.
Inside the room.
Xia Ning unbuttoned Mei Mi's clothes, revealing prominent veins on her swollen belly, as if it were about to break free from the skin's constraints.
She found it terrifying to look at; she really didn't know how Meimi had endured so many days of torment.
Meimi was covered in sweat, and her eyes were bloodshot.
Xia Ning knew that childbirth wouldn't be quick, so she could only squeeze Mei Mi's hand tightly and feed her some rice porridge so that she would have the strength for the actual delivery.
Mei Mi looked at Xia Ning, a string of clear tears sliding down her beautiful blue eyes. Then she pushed away the bowl Xia Ning offered and began to grit her teeth and strain.
Time passed by, minute by minute.
Xia Ning didn't know how much time had passed before she finally heard the first cry.
"She's a beautiful little princess," Xia Ning said happily, looking up.
The joy of new life seemed to give the pregnant woman strength; with a sudden burst of effort, Meimi's twin sister also emerged.
Xia Ning quickly wrapped the two children in the clean cloth she had prepared, intending to place them beside Mei Mi's pillow.
"Don't!"
Meimi weakly stopped Xia Ning.
Xia Ning paused, but then heard Mei Mi ask, "Are they... healthy?"
Xia Ning replied truthfully, "It has all four limbs, it just looks a bit small."
It's normal for twins to be smaller at birth.
Meimi let out a slow sigh and asked again, "Is it black hair?"
Xia Ning's heart sank; she roughly guessed what was going to happen next...
Xia Ning said in a deep voice, "It's dark hair."
Outside the door, Xiong Xue knocked cautiously and asked, "I heard the baby crying. Has it been born yet?"
Xia Ning: "I've given birth. Go and help prepare brown sugar water and millet porridge."
