Chapter 167 An Tanli

Ping An felt about the same as Wang Xiaoman had estimated, but she definitely couldn't eat another fish, so she thought she would let them eat first and then eat the rest herself.

Unexpectedly, Ping An's little belly could hold quite a lot; the two of them ate another fish before they were full.

Zhuang Zhiwen also asked them.

Are you really full?

They patted their tummy peacefully, indicating that they were safe and sound.

"I'm so full!"

Since everyone was full, we didn't need to worry about them anymore. We grilled the remaining fish and each of us got two more.

After finishing the grilled fish, we also grilled the green peppers and corn, but not the sweet potatoes.

Everyone ate to their heart's content.

While they were having a happy gathering, the atmosphere at An Qingbai's home wasn't as lively.

An Tanli slammed his fist on the table in anger.

“How could my elder brother do this? Just because he was afraid of being implicated by his family, he severed ties with them?”

Is this how his father taught him? How will he face his ancestors in the future? How will he feel when burning paper money for his parents?

An Tanxiao hesitated for a moment, then coughed lightly.

"cough!"

Shi Meiling didn't keep it from An Fugui; she told An Tanli directly.

“An Fugui has never burned paper money for his parents. He doesn’t consider himself a member of this family at all, and he never acknowledges himself as his parents’ child when he’s outside!”

An Tanli looked at An Tanxiao with suspicion. Who was An Fugui? How come he didn't know him?

An Tanxiao coughed again.

"cough!"

Shi Meiling glared at An Tanxiao.

“If your throat is sore, go drink some water. Why are you coughing like that? What’s there to hide? An Tanzhong changed his name to An Fugui after severing ties with his family!”

An Tanli smiled sarcastically.

"Heh! Wealth? Is he wealthy now? Did he become wealthy the moment he cut ties with his family?"

Shi Meiling grimaced as she thought of An Fugui's current situation and told An Tanli.

“He’s not even as well off as we are now! We have three children, and we’re often considered to be in a situation where we’re less well off than our family in the village!”

Our children are all capable and usually earn full work points. It's a miracle if his children can get the same work points as the women!

Even so, An Fugui and his wife still believed that their child should live in the city and not in the countryside.

All they ever talk about is which of their children went to the city to find a job, or which city person has taken a liking to their child tomorrow.

He loves to brag, and nobody believes anything he says!

An Tanli's sneer widened.

"Ha! I never expected my elder brother to turn out like this!"

An Tanxiao sighed.

"Alas! The human heart is the most unpredictable thing since ancient times. This may just be his nature! It wasn't obvious when he was young, but it only showed after the family tragedy!"

An Tanli shook his head in disappointment.

"I thought I could find my way home once I regained my memory, but I never imagined that only the two of us brothers would be left!"

An Tanxiao excitedly pulled An Tanli's arm.

"Second brother, what happened to you? How did you lose your memory?"

An Tanli patted An Tanxiao's hand to comfort him before beginning his story.

"Back then, I was knocked unconscious by a towel by a womanizer. When I woke up, I found myself in a room, and I had a bad feeling about it!"

I heard the bandits planning to move me away, so I pretended to faint and let them escape when they weren't paying attention to me!

An Tanxiao asked anxiously.

"Second brother, what happened next? Why didn't you go home? And why did you lose your memory?"

An Tanli continued to reminisce.

"Later they found out I had run away, and they immediately went after me!"

In my panic, a sharp object on the corner outside the house pierced my head. When I fell, I hit the back of my head and lost consciousness on the spot.

I guess the paparazzi thought I was dead, so they just left me there.

When I woke up again, I found myself in the hospital, but I had no memory of anything except my name.

A couple took me to the hospital. They noticed I had amnesia; I couldn't remember where I lived or who I was. I only remembered my name.

They had no children of their own, so they adopted me! They planned to send me home when I remembered!

An Tanxiao never expected it to be like this.

"Second brother, after you went missing that day, I searched for a long time. I cried all the way home and told our parents that you were missing. We all went out to look for you and reported the case to the police station."

"My parents couldn't let you go when they died, and they told me I had to find you someday!"

When An Tanli heard his parents' voices, his heart ached, and tears streamed down his face involuntarily.

"It's my fault for being unfilial! I didn't see my parents off on their final journey!"

An Tanxiao comforted him.

"Second brother, Father and Mother certainly don't blame you anymore. Now that you're back, they can rest in peace!"

An Tanli wiped away his tears and told An Tanxiao.

"I almost didn't make it out of this world a while ago. While I was lying in bed, I suddenly had my childhood memories come back!"

I once thought it was a final burst of energy before death, and I was ready to just let it go and let you all consider me dead!

Cheng Zong didn't want me to leave, so he secretly came to Northeast China to look for ginseng. He only managed to bring me back after buying ginseng from Qing Bai!

I thought to myself, since God won't take me, I must come home!

Mentioning An Qingbai was a good way for Shi Meiling to distract the brothers from their emotions by talking about the third son.

"Second brother, you've come home at just the right time. Third brother is getting engaged in a few days, so you can attend as a relative!"

I didn't even want to invite An Fugui and his wife over!

When asked about it, An Tanli immediately agreed.
