Chapter 1 / Section 4: The Monster
He was once a monster who could not feel pain. Countless blades slashed across his body, yet only bright red blood flowed silently, without the slightest pain.
Cang Ruoxi and Xiong Yingguang walked side by side on their way home, the afterglow of the setting sun stretching their shadows long, as if telling an untold story.
"Xiong Yingguang, aren't you going to tell Lu Xiyao? He likes you so much, he'll definitely understand and accept your secret."
"What can I say? That I'm a monster who can't even feel pain? Or that I indirectly caused my mother's death? Jing Mo Ran doesn't know about this, and I want to bury it in my heart forever."
Xiong Yingguang couldn't feel physical pain, but heartache was an exception. Her love for Lu Xiyao was mixed with unspeakable suffering.
"If you don't tell him, how will he know? The truth will always come to light eventually."
“Lu Xiyao does love me very much, but I can’t hurt him. I want to try to like Jing Moran, even if it doesn’t work out. Jing Moran is also a patient with analgesia. People like us should be together and not drag others down with us.”
She was covered in wounds, yet she never felt pain. She thought it was a stroke of luck, but on the day she tried to end her own life, she unexpectedly took the life of her loved one.
Passing through the boy's world, she saw many things that seemed familiar yet strange. She thought that as long as they shared the secret of painlessness, they could take a step closer, but at that moment she was wrong.
"Xiong Yingguang! Xiong Yingguang, you stop right there!" Lu Xiyao got out of the Mercedes-Benz driven by Haiyang and saw Xiong Yingguang. He told Haiyang to stop the car and walked straight towards her.
Xiong Yingguang dared not look back. She deeply loved Lu Xiyao because he was the gentlest person she had ever met. However, they were ultimately not of the same kind. She knew that Jing Moran was a womanizer, but she still chose him because only they belonged to the same world.
She stopped walking, but didn't turn around, letting her long hair sway in the breeze, each strand carrying an untold secret.
"Xiong Yingguang, why don't you dare tell me? I care about you so much. Why didn't you tell me you have pain insufficiency? It's not a big deal."
Xiong Yingguang finally turned to face Lu Xiyao and said, "Nothing? This is nothing? I don't even feel pain. I'm different from you."
“Xiong Yingguang, you are a human being too. No one is perfect.”
“I am different from you, I cannot tarnish your beautiful world.”
Haiyang got out of the car and said to Lu Xiyao, "Forget it, Xiyao, you should go home. I'll take Xiong Yingguang home. Remember to go home early."
Lu Xiyao was speechless. As he brushed past Xiong Yingguang, he was filled with confusion, not understanding why she always felt that she was not worthy of love.
The boy was the gentle center of the world; she had tried to approach him, but dared not turn back. His gentleness was unattainable; even if it were within reach, she would not possess it, for they did not belong to the same world. She feared that one day she would hurt him.
As the sun set, Lu Xiyao felt heavy-hearted and uneasy. All the beautiful moments had vanished like bubbles, leaving only confusion in her heart. Even the sound of the rain seemed heart-wrenching.
"Why? Why can't we go back to the way things were before?" Lu Xiyao was in great pain.
Jing Mo Ran watched all this silently from a distance, without approaching. He knew that he and Xiong Ying Guang belonged to the same world. They had been fellow patients in the same hospital, sharing the secret of painlessness. They couldn't feel pain, and could only watch helplessly as blood flowed from their wounds. Jing Mo Ran cherished every moment he spent with Xiong Ying Guang, who was deeply mired in inferiority due to her mother's death.
Jing Moran understood that a relationship between people like them wouldn't end well, so he deliberately acted like a womanizer in front of Xiong Yingguang, hoping she would back down and choose to love someone else. He had given her endless care, and perhaps that was why she liked him.
"Brother Mo Ran, we'll be together in the future, right?"
"Yes, yes," Jing Mozhan thought to himself, but he knew he couldn't hurt her with words, because they were both monsters who couldn't feel pain.
Jing Mo Ran's father abandoned him because of his cell defect, which led to his parents' divorce, and his mother received a large sum of compensation.
In a coffee shop, Jing Mo Ran bumped into his father and excitedly asked, "Dad, why didn't you want Mom and me back then?"
"Mo Ran, your mother and I simply chose to start over with different families."
"You're lying, is it because of me?"
"That's right, it's all because of you. You monster who can't even feel pain, cutting yourself with a knife and playing with fire every day, is that interesting? You can never change that fact, you should stay away from normal people."
"You call me a monster? But wasn't I born of you? How could you abandon your wife and children?"
"You monster, stay away from me, and don't come near anyone."
After saying his last words, the father turned and left without looking back; his heartless attitude was chilling.
He was created by his father and mother, yet his father resented him. Everything he had came from his parents, and they abandoned him. Parents and people like them will eventually become the scum of society.
Jing Moran felt a light pat from behind Lu Xiyao. He said, "Is that your father? He seems very cold towards you."
“I don’t have that kind of father,” Jing Moran replied.
