When they arrived at Kaifeng Prefecture, it was Mid-Autumn Festival and all the main officials were on vacation at home, leaving only a registrar named Li on duty in the prefecture.

Zhang Shixun didn't understand how high a rank the Silu Canjun was, but he was too lazy to ask.

With Li Gang around, he doesn't have to worry about anything.

Li Gang reported his official title. The registrar was very polite. After asking what happened, he said nothing and waved his hand to have the bailiffs take the two Wuyou Cave criminals to the jail.

Kaifeng Prefecture has always treated the criminals from Wuyou Cave as criminals sentenced to death.

The registrar ignored Zhang Shixun and the other commoners. He simply had someone write down Li Gang's name and official title, briefly asked about the general circumstances of the incident, and then politely bowed to Li Gang and said, "Mr. Nie is not here today. Please go back first. When Mr. Nie arrives tomorrow, he will handle the case."

"In that case, I'll take my leave." Li Gang didn't waste any more time talking to him and turned away.

"Li Shaoqing, is this the end?" Zhang Shixun asked in a low voice from behind.

He is the person involved, why doesn't he even ask?

We must always clarify the whole story.

"With the Lord not here, nothing can be done." Li Gang walked out of Kaifeng Prefecture and suddenly stopped. "Tell me, why did the people from Wuyou Cave want to go after you brothers?"

Zhang Shixun had anticipated this question and replied with a smile, "We've only just returned from overseas a few months ago and have never had any trouble with the Wuyou Cave thieves. My guess is that they're probably being paid to cause trouble for us."

"Paying for a life?" Li Gang looked him over carefully, seeing he was neither humble nor arrogant. "What have you done to deserve someone paying for your life?"

"I didn't do anything. I just had a fight with a yamen official, and then he was arrested by Kaifeng Prefecture and imprisoned for a few days."

"Whose son is this?" Li Gang asked.

"He seems to be the son of Wang Xiang. People call him Wang Husun."

Hearing this, Li Gang suddenly realized, "So it's Wang Fu's son. This matter has been rumored for a long time. So, you are Gao Yanei's accomplice?"

Even Li Gang knew about this.

This proves the old saying: Good news doesn't travel far, but bad news travels a thousand miles.

There was almost nothing he didn't know.

Arriving at Zhou Bridge, Zhang Shixun looked at the huge crowds of people on it. He was too lazy to move forward and turned to walk towards the Imperial Street. As he walked, he asked, "Yanei, tell me about the Ghost Fan Tower you mentioned just now."

"Ghost Fan Tower is right under our feet." Gao Yanei stamped his foot and said mysteriously, "There are many caves under the ground in the capital, leading in all directions, each cave connected to the other. The exits are all in the ditches that can be found everywhere in the capital. All kinds of monsters and demons are in these caves, including criminal fugitives, lazy idlers, and poor people who have wandered here from other places... These people live freely in there, not afraid of being arrested by the government at all."

"Why aren't you afraid of being arrested by the government?"

"Emperor Taizu sent troops to capture them, and so did several subsequent emperors, but to no avail. These fugitives were very arrogant, calling these underground caves Wuyou Caves. They burrowed in them to sleep during the day and emerged at night to commit crimes, defrauding, seducing women, and robbing people on the road. They took the women they had lured in for pleasure and called themselves the Ghost Fan Tower."

"Why are there so many caves underground?" asked Zhang Shixun.

Gao Yanei shook his head and said, "It seems that this drainage channel was built by previous generations. It's so old that no one can figure out when it was built."

Zhang Shixun nodded. There was no natural cave in Kaifeng, so the reasonable explanation was that these underground holes were probably artificially built.

"Yanei, please find out more about the matter of Guifanlou later."

"What are you doing?" Gao Yanei was startled and stopped to ask.

"What else can I do? I'm just curious."

"I'm curious, too, but I don't dare to pry around. If those fugitives find out, they'll do anything. We can't afford to offend them." At this point, Gao Yanei shuddered, as if remembering something terrifying. He grabbed Zhang Shixun's sleeve and said, "It's a major holiday, and thinking about that gloomy cave is really... Brother, let's not talk about this anymore."
