Chapter 16 Lost

I woke up close to evening.

The afterglow of dusk shone through the window into the room, gradually bathing the entire room in a warm hue.

Wen Mo rubbed his sleepy eyes and was about to get up to reach for his phone when he realized that he had no feeling in his right arm at all.

Turning my head, I saw a delicate little face pressed against mine, eyes slightly closed, clearly still fast asleep, and I could hear soft breathing from time to time.

She didn't know how many hours she had slept, but her arm was numb from being pressed down, and even with her head resting on it, she couldn't feel any warmth or weight.

Wen Mo frowned, remembering what happened at noon.

"How long have I been asleep...?"

He said he would lend his arm to Xia Lian to use as a pillow, but he ended up falling asleep himself and didn't wake up until it was almost dark.

He took out his phone with his left hand, looked at the time (nearly evening) on the screen, and remained silent for a moment.

"Hmm... um...?"

Perhaps it was Wen Mo's movement of touching his phone that disturbed her, Xia Lian's eyelashes trembled slightly, and then she gently opened her eyes and sat up with a sleepy look on her face.

She had just woken up and probably hadn't realized it yet, staring at the other person for a good ten seconds before she realized that the two of them were sleeping in the same bed.

"Good morning, Wenmo." She tilted her head slightly, seemingly not taking it seriously.

"Early my foot! It's almost evening now. Are you still half asleep?" Wen Mo gently tapped her forehead with his finger, then shook his still sore and numb right arm.

He finally regained some feeling in his arm, and when he first woke up, he really thought his arm had disappeared.

"You said you'd rest your head on your pillow for a bit, how come you fell asleep?"

Upon hearing this, Xia Lian lowered her head slightly, but her eyes would occasionally and cautiously rise up, looking exactly like a primary school student who had done something wrong.

“I feel very safe with Wenmo by my side… so I accidentally fell asleep…” She tapped her index fingers together, which looked rather cute.

Wen Mo smiled slightly; he really couldn't find anything wrong with this reason.

He looked away and slowly sat up.

"Alright, now that you're awake, let's think about what to eat tonight. I woke up and it was almost dark, and I'm starving."

If a person sleeps from noon until night, they will feel a huge sense of emptiness and loneliness when they wake up, accompanied by hunger.

Fortunately, Xia Lian was also lying next to him. When Wen Mo saw her face when he got up, he did not feel any emptiness.

That's the advantage of having someone sleeping next to you, isn't it?

"Let's go buy some groceries. Didn't I say yesterday that I'd show you my cooking skills?" Wen Mo glanced at the sky outside, which wasn't completely dark yet. It seemed the market wouldn't be closing anytime soon.

"good."

Xia Lian blinked and skipped to the entrance to change her shoes.

The sleepy look he had just had vanished without a trace.

"You're in a good mood, you're even jumping up and down." Wen Mo laughed.

"I want to eat Wenmo's cooking."

She skillfully changed her shoes and then stood obediently beside Wen Mo, though a hint of liveliness flickered in her eyes, though it wasn't shown on her face.

Once outside, it was the same old routine: Wen Mo walked in front, Xia Lian followed behind, both holding onto his clothes as they moved forward.

Since it wasn't the best time to buy groceries, most of the stalls in the market had closed down, but most were still open.

The smell of the market wasn't particularly pleasant; it was a mixture of sweat and animal stench, and if it rained, it would also smell like sewage.

However, there aren't many people here now, and most of them are older women and men, all focused on buying vegetables. The orange lights on the meat stalls, the electric fans swatting flies, and the sounds of people bargaining as they come and go add a touch of liveliness to this old vegetable market.

"What kind of food do you want to eat?" Wen Mo looked around at the stalls. Most of them sold vegetables, while the meat stalls mainly sold pork and chicken.

Xia Lian followed closely behind him, glancing around at her surroundings from time to time. Her long, flowing hair was tied into a large ponytail, but it didn't make her look capable. Instead, the oversized ponytail made her appear even smaller.

"Eat...what Wenmer is good at."

"Oh? I'm good at making so many dishes, I probably won't be able to finish them in two or three days," Wen Mo said with a hint of pride, before leading her on a aimless stroll through the market.

As night slowly fell and the number of stalls dwindled, the two men carried several bags of vegetables before heading home together.

"Sit on the sofa and rest for a while. I don't think my cooking will be ready so quickly; it will take some time."

Wen Mo placed the dishes on the table one by one, picked out the dishes he would use today and placed them next to the cutting board. He turned his head and saw Xia Lian standing beside him, staring straight at him.

"Trying to help me again?" He was rubbing a potato in his hand, the dirt on it gradually falling off.

Xia Lian nodded slightly, then skillfully began to pick vegetables. Judging from her practiced movements, it was clear that she had cooked a lot at home.

"Do you like spicy food?" Wen Mo asked, wiping his sweat as he turned around.

She didn't answer, but silently handed him a plate of washed chili peppers.

The two worked together, and the kitchen gradually became more lively, with one home-style dish after another being stir-fried from the boiling wok.

After about several tens of minutes, the aroma of rice wafted from the rice cooker, and the two hungry people were finally able to eat the dishes they had made.

Wen Mo served the dishes to the table one by one, while Xia Lian helped serve the rice.

Looking at the table full of dishes, Wen Mo put his hands on his hips with a sense of accomplishment.
