She is often expressionless, never revealing what she’s thinking.
No matter what, the cautious cousin arrived at Wenmo’s abode.
These two ended up living together inexplicably.
<...(A glorious resurrection!)
Wenmer rarely buys these things when he goes to the movies. He doesn't really like popcorn, nor does he want to drink beverages while watching a movie, otherwise he'll keep needing to go to the bathroom.
However, today I brought Xia Lian to experience a complete movie-watching process, so popcorn and drinks were essential, especially since that girl loves sweets.
Just like a birthday cake, even if you don't like it, you still have to buy one to make it feel special.
Speaking of which...
When is this girl's birthday?
Looking back, Xia Lian was still by Wen Mo's side, her gaze fixed intently on a poster in the theater, completely absorbed in it.
A male and a female high school student stand on opposite sides of the poster, gazing at each other in the distance. A huge shooting star streaks across their heads. That's the whole picture of the poster.
"Do you like this poster?" Wen Mo followed her gaze and smiled. "It's the movie we're going to see in a little while. You can look forward to it."
This is an animated film that I watched several years ago. Due to its popularity, it was re-released in China a few years later.
The girl's face was expressionless; she just nodded blankly, carefully holding a large bucket of popcorn in her arms.
"I'll get the popcorn." Wen Mo took the popcorn bucket from her hand.
A few minutes passed, and after the previous movie ended, the next group of viewers gradually entered the theater.
I handed the movie ticket to the ticket collector at the door. With two "snip" sounds, the movie ticket was cut down to just a stub, and then I handed it back to Wenmo.
"You can go in now."
Clutching the ticket stub, Wen Mo gestured for Xia Lian to follow behind him.
There weren't many people in the screening room. Due to the subject matter of the film, most of the people who came to see this movie were couples or groups of friends.
The two of them were seated slightly to the left of the middle. Wenmo originally wanted to buy seats in the very center, but unfortunately, he bought the tickets too late yesterday, and most of the middle seats had already been taken.
"Come on, sit next to me." Wen Mo patted the seat next to him and placed the popcorn on his lap.
Xia Lian's lips were tightly closed, her eyes flickered uncertainly, and she looked somewhat reserved as she sat cautiously beside him.
"Don't keep your head down. We paid to come in, so don't be so tense." As he spoke, Wen Mo smiled and lifted Xia Lian's head up a little.
With his reassurance, Xia Lian's tense emotions finally relaxed a lot, and her eyes changed from nervousness to curiosity.
"It's so bright here..."
"It'll be dark soon." Wen Mo took out his phone and put it on silent, then moved the popcorn bucket to the side a little. "Want to eat some popcorn first?"
Xia Lian nodded, reached into the bucket with her little hand and scooped out a few kernels of popcorn, the round kernels rolling around in her palm.
Wen Mo also popped a piece of popcorn into his mouth. The sweetness and heat instantly filled his mouth, causing him to furrow his brow slightly.
This stuff is too oily; he's not used to it. But if we're just talking about the taste, it's very sweet, and Xia Lian would probably like it.
Turning our attention to Xia Lian, she was clearly still craving more popcorn after finishing hers, gazing longingly at Wen Mo.
Seeing this, Wenmo simply put the popcorn bucket on her lap; if she liked it, he would give her all of it.
"Wenmo, aren't you going to eat...?" Xia Lian tilted her head in confusion, looking at the popcorn bucket in her arms.
"I don't really like it, but it's fine if you like it."
Wenmo took a sip of his drink, which diluted the taste of popcorn in his mouth. He didn't know when the tradition of watching movies with popcorn started, but it seemed to have been around since he was born. His parents would always buy a bucket to satisfy their cravings when they took him to the movies.
But his parents always said they wouldn't eat it, so Wenmo ended up having to finish the whole bucket of popcorn, leaving him with a dry mouth after every movie.
As Wenmo grew up, he finally began to understand his parents' thoughts a little better. They all wanted to save the best food for the important people in their lives.
Just like now.
Hearing Wen Mo say he didn't want to eat, Xia Lian started to pop popcorn into her mouth in small bites.
This thing is expensive, and she doesn't want to waste it.
I had only taken a few bites when everything around me suddenly went dark, pitch black, and I could only see the big screen in front of me.
Xia Lian was startled by this sudden change, forgetting to chew the popcorn in her mouth, and blankly raised her head to look around.
"It's so dark..."
"It's okay, you can eat." Wen Mo shifted to a more comfortable sitting position. "The darkness around us means the movie is about to start."
Hearing his explanation, Xia Lian swallowed the popcorn in her mouth and stared blankly at the big screen that was still playing commercials, afraid of missing anything.
A few minutes later, as a familiar piece of music began, the movie officially started.
This movie tells the story of a boy and a girl who switch bodies to experience each other's lives. In the end, they fall in love with each other because of this wonderful experience and embark on a journey to find each other.
I had seen it once before, but even watching it a second time, I was still moved by the plot and felt deeply immersed in it.
As the male and female protagonists recognize each other, the end credits song begins to play.
The movie has ended.
"The aftereffects are really strong..." Wen Mo rubbed his red eyes. Even though he knew what the plot was about, tears still welled up in his eyes.
The screening didn't end immediately; most people were still listening to the end credits song.
Xia Lian, however, did not shed tears like Wen Mo. She simply stood motionless in place, her thoughts wandering elsewhere.
"Are you alright?"
Wen Mo moved closer, and Xia Lian didn't realize that their faces were almost touching until Wen Mo moved closer.
"it's over……"
This was the first thing she said after watching the movie.
"Hmm, it's over. Pretty good, right?"
Xia Lian didn't answer Wen Mo's question. She just kept her head down, seemingly lost in thought, while the popcorn bucket in her arms remained full.
"Wenmo".
"Um?"
"Will they be together?" Xia Lian raised her head, her innocent eyes revealing no emotion, only emptiness and listlessness.
The sudden question startled Wen Mo for a moment. After thinking for a few seconds, he smiled and said, "Yes, they recognized each other at the end of the movie, didn't they?"
"Really?"
"Yes, I'm not lying to you."
"To be together forever and ever? The kind where we never separate."
This was the most coherent sentence Xia Lian had uttered since they met, without a single stumble or stammer, and even her tone carried a hint of seriousness.
"Yes, they will be together forever."
Although he didn't know why Xia Lian asked that question, Wen Mo eventually gave his answer. He vaguely remembered that the director had also said that the two main characters in the movie got married.
Upon hearing this answer, the girl in front of him suddenly moved closer, speaking as if to herself:
"How can we... never be apart?"
