She is often expressionless, never revealing what she’s thinking.
No matter what, the cautious cousin arrived at Wenmo’s abode.
These two ended up living together inexplicably.
<...Wen Mo tidied up his desk, rubbed his sore neck, and heard a "clattering" sound coming from his neck.
He seemed to have used too much force, and he grimaced in pain. Studying with his neck hunched over for a long time was really not feasible, and he almost got a stiff neck.
"Let's skip dinner and go to the night market to fill our stomachs later."
He finished speaking, but heard no response from the girl.
Xia Lian stared intently at the new group photo on her phone, holding the phone in her hands, seemingly reluctant to put it down.
"You really like my handsome face that much? You're totally mesmerized." Wen Mo leaned over for a glance, then smugly flicked his nose.
"Mmm." Xia Lian didn't deny it, but looked at the little boy with red lips and white teeth in the photo, and reached out her small hand to poke his head, "Wen Mo is very handsome."
"You won't get any reward for saying nice things about me."
"award……?"
Xia Lian tilted her head in confusion; the photo in her hand was already the greatest reward for her.
Wen Mo looked at Xia Lian's innocent little face, his Adam's apple bobbing.
This guy is just too cute...
The next second, he inexplicably reached out and pinched the girl's soft cheek. By the time he realized it, his fingers were already on her cheek.
He quickly let go, feeling that he had been incredibly impulsive.
"Sorry! Did I hurt you?"
Xia Lian didn't say anything, she just obediently shook her head.
"I'm glad I didn't hurt you... Let's get ready to go, I'll take you to the night market."
Wen Mo awkwardly changed the subject and turned to walk towards the entrance.
Xia Lian didn't follow them out. Instead, she stood there, lost in thought. After a few seconds, she gently touched the spot where she had been pinched.
Hmm... I got pinched...
But she was actually quite happy.
...
Since starting high school, Wenmo has rarely gone to the night market.
Firstly, I'm very busy. I'm already busy enough with my studies, so where would I find the time to go to the night market? Secondly, I'm lazy, and there's not much fun in going to the night market alone.
Thinking of this, Wen Mo glanced at Xia Lian beside him, intentionally or unintentionally.
Well, thankfully I'm not alone now.
Night markets are a unique sight in big cities. Unlike some bustling commercial streets that are surrounded by shops, night markets are filled with all kinds of small vendors, noisy hawking, and a dazzling array of novel trinkets.
In addition, the night market is crowded with people, so cars rarely drive in, and you can hardly hear any noisy horns.
"How long has it been since I last came here?" Wen Mo looked around with a sense of nostalgia. His parents often brought him here to play when he was a child.
I remember when my family bought a DVD player, he would always beg his dad to buy him a bunch of Ultraman discs whenever he went to the night market.
DVD players are practically nonexistent these days. If you want to watch something, you can just search online and find tons of results. DVD players have clearly become relics of the past. (Sad)
"Wen Mo's here, what are you thinking about?" Xia Lian asked curiously when she saw him lost in thought.
"Nothing, I just remembered an embarrassing thing that happened when I was a kid," Wen Mo said casually.
In the past, if you took an old DVD that you had already finished watching, you could exchange it for a new one for five dollars at the DVD shop. I remember that year my dad got a new DVD of Ultraman, and then Wenmo cried for a week because Ultraman was gone.
Shaking his head, Wen Mo smiled and patted Xia Lian's head, "There's no shortage of delicious food here, what do you want to eat?"
The aromas of various snacks mingled on this not-so-wide street, but surprisingly, they weren't unpleasant; only occasionally could you catch a whiff of stinky tofu.
"Um……"
Upon hearing this, Xia Lian hesitated for a moment before pointing to the stinky tofu stall on the side, "I want to eat that..."
She had heard of stinky tofu before, but had never tried it.
"Eat stinky tofu?" Wen Mo was clearly surprised by the answer. He had thought that this girl would like the grilled squid from the stall next door, or the fried chicken leg from the other side, which smelled delicious.
"Um, is that okay...?" Xia Lian asked cautiously.
That makes sense. Stinky tofu smells stinky, so how could it possibly taste good? It's mostly just curiosity.
But she just inexplicably wanted to try it.
"If you want to eat it, let's buy as much as we want! Don't be timid." Wen Mo smiled and pulled the girl to the stinky tofu stall.
Strangely enough, the stinky smell of stinky tofu is quite noticeable from a distance, but it diminishes considerably when you get closer.
"Both black and white, um... which one would you prefer?" Wen Mo asked, turning his head.
Xia Lian did not answer, but fell into deep thought.
Seeing her reaction, Wen Mo nodded thoughtfully, "Oh...! So you were planning to buy both together, that's a perfect decision."
Before Xia Lian could reply, Wen Mo had already asked the owner to cook two portions.
"Yeah, I remember I used to really like eating this stuff." Although it doesn't look very appealing and smells stinky, the taste is absolutely amazing.
Xia Lian was a little worried that buying two portions might cost too much money, but since the tofu was already in the pot, she couldn't let the owner take it back.
"Wenmo, money." Xia Lian tugged at his sleeve.
"I'll pay later, no rush."
Upon hearing this, Xia Lian shook her head vigorously. "I'll pay." With that, she took out her small wallet and carefully counted the money inside.
