Chapter 85

As midnight approached, only a few dim lights shone in the hotel corridor, and hardly anyone was walking around.

The two walked directly to the end of the corridor, where there was a window. The soft, clear moonlight streamed in and spilled onto the floor, casting a shadow on each of them.

"Actually, it's not impossible to talk about it tomorrow." Su Xun moved his lips slightly.

"If you deny it after we kiss tomorrow, who am I supposed to hold responsible?" He glared at her fiercely.

"How could that be?" Su Xun instinctively retorted upon hearing this assessment, which sounded like that of a scumbag. She had written quite a few heartless scumbag male supporting characters when she was writing novels, and she was almost attacked by readers.

"Oh? So you mean you're willing to take responsibility for me?" His mood immediately improved. "Then how are you going to take responsibility for me?"

The window was ajar, and a gust of wind blew in. Su Xun shrank his neck and looked at Pei Ke, who was only wearing a thin sweatshirt.

Aren't you cold?

“It’s cold, so when are you planning to return my clothes? I only brought one coat.” Pei Ke’s eyes swept over the black coat that Su Xun was holding on his arm.

"Oh, okay." Su Xun quickly handed over the clothes.

Pei Ke reached out and took it, then put it on.

She had been wearing the clothes an hour ago, but now they were back with the original owner, and a strange feeling arose in her heart.

He was quite adept at these intimate gestures.

"Alright, let's not change the subject. What are you planning to do, hmm?" The voice was deep, coming from the chest, stirring ripples in the night.

Su Xun felt dizzy and disoriented from the low sound.

I've wanted to express my thoughts and reluctance for a long time, but now that the time has come, I find myself not knowing where to begin.

The events of the past few years were too complicated to be explained in just a few words. During the summer vacation, she could confide in Tang Shi without any burden, but when the other person was Pei Ke, she began to hesitate.

Perhaps it was her hidden sense of pride that was causing her distress; because it was Pei Ke, she didn't want him to know how pathetic she was.

In her second year of high school, she applied for a financial aid program for students from impoverished families with her homeroom teacher. Her classmates saw the application form that described her family's situation. They apologized and pretended not to know anything about it, but afterwards, the way they looked at her was more or less tinged with pity, which she didn't like at all.

She was afraid of finding that emotion in the eyes of the person in front of her. Girls are always more proud, especially in front of someone they like.

Pei Ke's gaze remained fixed on her face, noticing the girl's hesitation. The little bit of expectation in his heart was gradually extinguished by the cold wind.

His eyes were terrifyingly dark, yet he still managed a slight smile. "If you feel it's too much to ask, then forget it." He paused, then added, "It's late; we should go home."

As she spoke, she reached out to take Su Xun's hand, but stopped halfway through the movement and finally let it fall limply to the ground.

"You look pretty energetic, so you probably don't need my help," he explained awkwardly, then turned on his toes and walked forward on his own.

He was afraid that if he stayed in this place any longer, he would lose control of himself. He couldn't guarantee that he wouldn't do anything out of control, even if he stayed for just one more minute.

When he heard her say tonight that she didn't have a boyfriend, he was excited for a long time, thinking that he still had a chance and couldn't wait to tell her how he felt. But it seems he was just being delusional.

His steps were heavy, and he looked especially lonely in the darkness.

Suddenly, there were hurried footsteps behind me, and a pair of hands wrapped around my waist.

"sorry."

He froze, stopped in his tracks, and uttered each word with difficulty, "I don't want you to apologize to me."

All I've ever wanted is you.

He suddenly understood Lin Nuoyu's feelings last night, but he couldn't be as calm as she was.

"I said we'd be together after graduation, but it's been four years since then," Su Xun's voice trembled. "Does that promise still stand?"

She tightened her arms, desperately trying to hold onto something.

"Um?"

Upon hearing those words, he turned around almost instantly, grabbed the girl's shoulders with both hands, and asked urgently, "What did you just say?"

Su Xun raised her face and stared intently into her eyes, which shone with a soft light in the darkness. "I want to do what I didn't finish four years ago. Is that okay?"

She was enveloped in a fragrant atmosphere, faintly scented with the aroma of a recent bath, with soft fabric pressed against her face.

A warm breath lingered in her ear, and a soft voice reached her ears, "I'm so happy, but please don't play tricks on me this time, okay?"

She knew what he meant. Four years ago, she left without saying goodbye, leaving the bewildered boy alone. He must have been very angry then.

"good."

As the moonlight sank in the west, it cast long, overlapping shadows of the two people, much like that night many years ago.

The girl bravely expressed her feelings, and the boy said he liked her too.

Perhaps because he slept too much during the day, Su Xun got up very early the next day to take a good look at the ancient town before leaving at noon.

The streets were deserted in the early morning. Most tourists who had finished exploring the night market chose to sleep in and leisurely while away the time. She sat alone by the river for a while. A chill wafted from the water, and the vegetation on the bank glistened with dewdrops from the night before.

What happened last night was both sudden and so natural, and I felt a little excited.

She had always been uncertain about Pei Ke's thoughts, but she underestimated him.

Her sudden departure caught him off guard, and then her reappearance without a word would make any normal person angry or even hate her.
