Chapter Fifty-Two: The Moonlight Is Beautiful Tonight

A cool breeze was blowing, and the only sound in the entire teaching building was the footsteps of the two people.

When I came out of the office, I realized that evening self-study had already ended, and the students in the classroom had all gone home, leaving the surroundings quiet.

Su Xun followed behind Pei Ke, the two of them maintaining a distance, walking slowly down the corridor, feeling the wind passing through their fingertips.

The only sounds were the laughter of students walking in groups in the distance, which made the surroundings seem even quieter.

The last light went out, and darkness enveloped everything.

The darkness amplified the senses, and Su Xun seemed to be able to hear the breathing of the person in front of him, as well as a faint fragrance.

"I'm sorry, I caused you to get into trouble with the teacher just now..." He was interrupted before he could finish speaking.

The footsteps in front suddenly stopped, and then a sentence floated over, interrupting Su Xun's next words.

"What did you mean just now?" The question was light and airy, as if carried by the wind.

Su Xun, who was always paying attention to what was happening ahead, saw the person in front of him suddenly stop and immediately stopped as well.

"Hmm?" came the subconscious question.

“During evening self-study.” Pei Ke turned around, staring intently at the person in front of him.

Su Xun felt a little nervous under that gaze. Even though it was dark around her, she could feel the person's eyes and nervously tugged at the hem of her clothes.

Silence fell, broken only by the intertwining of two breaths, rising and falling.

"I have something I want to say, something I've been thinking about for a long time." She took a deep breath and looked up to meet his gaze.

The other person didn't move, just looked at her, waiting for the person in front of her to continue.

"I know this might sound abrupt, but I hope you'll let me finish. My feelings for you might be affection."

He then shook his head at himself.

"No, it's not just a possibility, it's just liking. I don't know when it started. Maybe it was when you were explaining problems to me, or when you were comforting and encouraging me and telling me to look forward, or when you were deliberately trying to make me angry. So many times, I was incredibly moved."

"You may have already sensed it, but, but I..."

Overwhelmed with emotion, she became somewhat incoherent.

Her nose felt a little swollen and sore, and she couldn't control herself. She looked down at the floor and saw a few clear, crystalline drops fall onto it.

As the clouds dispersed, the moon, its edges still somewhat blurred, finally emerged, casting a gentle light that allowed the two to clearly see each other's figures and expressions.

She suddenly raised her head again, looking at the person who was only two steps away from her, waiting for an answer.

As time passed, her emotions gradually calmed down, and the enthusiasm in her heart slowly faded.

He suppressed his emotions without showing any emotion, swallowing his disappointment.

She shook her head and looked around, forcing a smile. "It's late, let's go back."

"Why didn't you ask me what I was thinking?" Pei Ke finally spoke after a long while, his voice hoarse from not speaking for so long.

She looked up at him, stunned.

“You’re never the only one who feels nervous, scared, and insecure.” His deep voice reached the girl’s ears.

He stepped forward and placed his hands on the girl's shoulders. "I'm here too."

Under the moonlight, he could clearly see the girl's watery eyes, and his heart fluttered.

She had no idea how excited she felt when she heard those words. It was as if she had found something she had lost. All the anxiety and fear she had felt in the past few days vanished, and she was enveloped in a sweet feeling.

"I'm so happy."

He murmured softly.
