Heavenly fires incinerated cities, floods raged, and plagues ran rampant, turning the human world into a purgatory. Less than one in a hundred survivors remained.
Fu Yunong was unexpectedly p...
6. I got an electric shock.
Shi Dong is very beautiful. Her features are deep and three-dimensional, and her cold, aloof face carries an air of unapproachability.
Fu Yunong's gaze involuntarily fell on the mole on the tip of her nose, thinking to herself, "Is this a standard feature of a beauty?" She admired it while praising it in her heart.
Not wanting to be born with smiling eyes, Shi Dong found it rather uncomfortable to stare directly at people like that.
Shi Dong coughed lightly.
Fu Yunong snapped out of her daze, picked up her clothes, and went into the bathroom. Glancing at the combat uniform soaking in the bathtub, she casually asked, "Are you not going to take this anymore?"
Shi Dong shook his head, "Let's take a soak."
Fu Yunong nodded. It would be a waste to throw away such good material.
Unlike Shi Dong, she didn't dare to rinse herself directly with water; she only dampened a towel to wipe herself. As her fingertips brushed through her long hair, her eyes darkened, and she made a decision.
When she pushed the door open and came out, Shi Dong paused noticeably, her gaze falling on her head.
"Your hair..."
Fu Yunong touched her shoulder-length hair, smiled nonchalantly, squeezed toothpaste onto her brush, and mumbled, "This is more convenient, and saves it from getting in the way." She had just noticed a pair of scissors on the table, so she cut off her carefully maintained hair.
After they finished getting ready, it was completely dark. They stored the collected water in their spatial storage, carefully checked the doors and windows, and then lay down side by side on the bed. The mattress was soft and comfortable, and a thick quilt covered them, warmth spreading from their limbs. Although there was a slight odor, it was still very comfortable.
Fu Yunong soon became drowsy. Suddenly, she remembered something and asked in a drowsy voice, "When is your period?"
Shi Dong's voice rang out in the darkness, saying calmly, "It's long gone."
Fu Yunong's heart sank, and she couldn't quite describe the feeling. She wanted to say something, but was swallowed up by a heavy drowsiness.
She heard even breathing beside her. Shi Dong turned her head, but the night was too dark, and she could only make out a blurry outline. She paused for a moment, then closed her eyes as well.
This was definitely the most restful sleep Fu Yunong had had since arriving here. After washing her hands, she came out feeling refreshed, and the first thing she did was open the system lottery.
The familiar box spins rapidly, and as fireworks explode, a cold, hard, and sharp knife is revealed, with the words "Tactical Machete (31cm)" printed below it.
Ha! This is a melee weapon in the [Weapon Protection] category, and you need to reach level three to unlock the purchase permission.
This is the best thing I've ever gotten!
She stroked the blade with barely concealed excitement, but her smile faded when she saw the points on the system.
She reluctantly bought a bag of high-calorie energy bars (200g/bar, 6000kJ, chocolate flavor) and two bottles of water, spending 9 points. The two of them quickly ate some water to tide them over.
"What are we doing today?" Fu Yunong asked, munching on an energy bar.
Shi Dong seemed to have planned this all along: "Search this floor, we should be able to find quite a few useful things."
Fu Yunong suddenly remembered something. She felt that there were very few people in this city, or rather, very few zombies. The background information said that there were only about one in a hundred survivors, so zombies should be everywhere.
Shi Dong explained softly, "At the beginning of the disaster, the first areas to be evacuated were the neighboring capital and this region. Most people were moved to the north."
Fu Yunong immediately understood. After the disaster, the central region was submerged, making it extremely difficult for survivors to reach it.
After finishing her meal, Shi Dong went to do the laundry. She washed it very carefully, scrubbing away the stains repeatedly before hanging it in an open area.
After tidying up, the two split up and began searching.
Fu Yunong started rummaging through her workstation in the lobby. The drawers held many surprises: an unopened can of eight-treasure porridge, several packets of biscuits, a few chocolates, a pile of coffee and tea bags, and some sealed snacks. She stuffed all her office supplies, new or old, into the drawer, knowing they would come in handy someday.
"Huh!"
Her eyes lit up, and she pulled an unopened pack of sanitary napkins from the drawer. It was like a godsend, saving her money!
After that, she found several pieces of clothing hanging on the back of a chair, several pairs of slippers, two folding umbrellas, and even unopened batteries in a cabinet, but unfortunately they were all bulging and she had to throw them away with regret.
She went to the break room and happily accepted all the small appliances, tableware, tissues, and fruit knife. She even found half a box of mixed grains and some seasonings in the cupboard. The food in the refrigerator had long since gone bad, so she pinched her nose and quickly closed the door.
Meanwhile, Shi Dong headed straight for the administration office with a clear goal in mind. After searching for a while, he found screwdrivers, wrenches, and other tools, and even found a first-aid kit on the top shelf of a cabinet, containing some basic medicines.
After finishing all that, she returned to the CEO's office, picked out a thin wire from her toolbox, and quickly pried open the lock on the safe in the corner. Inside were a stack of documents, cash, and gold bars, but she didn't even glance at them. Instead, she picked up the dark pistol in the corner, her fingertips tracing the cold barrel, a faint smile playing on her lips.
Her old gun, after running out of bullets, became a weapon for fighting, and was eventually lost in the melee.
After searching this area, the two went to the company across the street. Unfortunately, it was a mess, with broken glass everywhere and almost nothing usable.
As noon approached, the two returned to the lounge and, upon reflection, found they had indeed gained quite a bit.
Fu Yunong stored all the supplies into her spatial storage, instantly filling the 20 square meter space to capacity. After thinking for a moment, she casually tossed the two tattered sacks in the corner out.
I've been putting up with them for so long!
"Come on, pick whatever you like."
Fu Yunong smiled and spread out a considerable amount of food on the ground.
Shi Dong took a piece of chocolate and a small packet of scallion pancakes, then glanced at several unopened packs of cigarettes out of the corner of her eye and paused.
Fu Yunong followed her gaze and asked, "I found it in the drawer. Do you want to smoke it?"
Shi Dong shook her head. She didn't have that habit, but she used to have a teammate who was really addicted, smoking half a pack a day. She had even scolded him, telling him not to smoke himself to death before he died in battle, and the result was...
She silently shifted her gaze and began inspecting the pistol. She skillfully disassembled, reassembled, and cocked it, her movements practiced and efficient, making Fu Yunong's eyes light up as she watched.
She handed over the machete she had drawn, saying, "Teach me how to use a gun!"
Shi Dong removed the magazine, handed her the gun, and took the machete, gripping it tightly. "It's fine. But this is better for dealing with zombies. However, having a knife isn't enough; you also need to know how to use it."
Fu Yunong nodded repeatedly, "That's something I want to learn, but actually I'd rather learn your skills."
"You can't learn it." Shi Dong ruthlessly shattered her illusions.
Fu Yunong puffed out her cheeks, but she knew she was telling the truth, so she compromised and said, "Then teach me what you think I can learn, just don't hold you back."
Shi Dong didn't refuse. She couldn't help but yawn, stretched her sore shoulders and back, and said she would rest for a while and told Shi Dong not to run around.
Fu Yunong assumed she was just exhausted and didn't pay much attention, then slipped into the space.
The small space was crammed with all sorts of supplies. Eight-treasure porridge was spilled between two umbrellas, tissues and tape were scattered on the toolbox, and several buckets of fresh water were strewn about. It was hard to find a place to stand.
She sighed softly and resignedly began to tidy up: the fresh water was put aside, the snacks such as cookies and chocolates were packed in storage boxes, and the medicine box and toolbox were moved to a conspicuous place; the notebooks, printer paper and other odds and ends were stacked up and pushed into a corner.
After much fuss, the previously chaotic space finally became organized. Fu Yunong straightened up, looking at the neatly categorized supplies, and felt inexplicably more at ease. Finally, she took out a backpack, packed some emergency supplies inside, and prepared to take it with her when she went out in the future, so that she could remain unnoticed.
"Oops!"
She suddenly realized that Shi Dong must be getting anxious after being here for so long, right? This shabby space doesn't even have a window or anything!
With a thought, Fu Yunong instantly sprang out of the space.
Then she saw that Shi Dong was still lying in bed. She frowned in confusion, and a sense of unease welled up in her heart.
Meanwhile, dark clouds gathered outside the window, and rumbling thunder echoed in the distance.
She hurried closer and saw Shi Dong looking pained, his face as red as a cooked shrimp, and his body burning with fever.
Fu Yunong was startled and quickly reached out to pat her face, calling out repeatedly, "Shi Dong! Shi Dong!"
But Shi Dong didn't react at all.
She frantically rummaged through the fever reducer and tried to feed it to her with purified water, but she couldn't get it to go down.
Fu Yunong's eyes reddened with anxiety. Having no other choice, she rushed into the bathroom, soaked a towel, and placed it on Shi Dong's forehead. She then wrung out another towel and repeatedly wiped Shi Dong's body. Despite the cold weather, her back was covered in a layer of cold sweat from her anxiety.
"Well!"
As a thunderclap rang in her ears, Shi Dong suddenly let out a painful groan. Her teeth were clenched, the veins on her body bulged, and she was steaming, as if she was enduring extreme pain.
Seeing this, Yu Nong quickly found a clean cloth and stuffed it into her mouth to prevent her from biting her tongue. Besides that, all she could do was squat by the bedside, calling her name over and over again, tears welling in her eyes.
"You absolutely can't get hurt..."
She looked helpless. She had finally found a place to stay and her life had started to get a little better. If something really happened to Shi Dong, how would she survive here all by herself?
Suddenly, Shi Dong's body began to convulse violently, accompanied by the cracking sound of bones, which echoed the lightning that tore through the sky outside the window.
Fu Yunong quickly stepped back.
She watched this scene in horror, only to see Shi Dong's head tilt to the side and become completely still.
"Shi Dong!"
Fu Yunong cried out in anguish, thinking she was dead, and tremblingly reached out to check her breath. Thankfully, she was still breathing, just unconscious!
Tears welled in her eyes as she laughed and cried at the same time. She found clean clothes to wipe Shi Dong's body and change her clothes. She then made a little salt water with salt and sugar and fed it to Shi Dong little by little. This time, Shi Dong was finally able to swallow.
After doing all this, Fu Yunong was so exhausted she was almost completely drained. She dragged a chair to a spot a little away from the bed, a wave of fear washing over her. Looking at Shi Dong like this, what if he turned into a zombie?
As the dark clouds gradually dispersed, Shi Dong's breathing became more even. Fu Yunong cautiously leaned closer to check her temperature. Unexpectedly, the moment her fingertips touched Shi Dong's face, she felt as if she had been pricked by a needle. A strong tingling sensation instantly spread throughout her body. After a moment of inexplicable panic, she stiffened and uncontrollably fell straight down.
At the same time, Shi Dong suddenly opened her eyes, a jolt of electricity passing through her pupils. She pressed her throbbing temples, and just as she sat up, she saw Fu Yunong lying motionless on the ground, her eyes wide open, her hair sticking up like a bird's nest.
