Nan Xian debuted at twenty and became an overnight sensation. At twenty-three, at the peak of her career, she married He Mingxiao. Who knew that on their wedding night, Nan Xian would receive a con...
"I'll sleep with you."
Looking at He Mingxiao's serious and earnest face, Nan Xian's mind went blank for a moment, thinking she was hallucinating.
Otherwise, why would her ex-husband, whom she'd only divorced a few months ago, brazenly knock on her door in the middle of the night and say—he wanted to sleep with her?
Her lips twitched slightly, she laughed in exasperation, crossed her arms and looked at him: "He Mingxiao, do you know what you're saying?"
He Mingxiao nodded, then suddenly stepped aside and squeezed through the door without a care.
Nan Xian was taken aback by his actions and stared in astonishment, glancing instinctively towards the door.
"He Mingxiao, are you crazy! Get out of here right now!" she yelled at him in a low voice, "Do you know how much trouble it would be if someone took a picture of us...?"
He Mingxiao looked around the room, picked up the slipper she had kicked under the table, bent down, and held her left foot.
Nan Xian was tall, but she had a pair of small and delicate feet, slender and thin, white as jade, with toes as cute as tender lotus sprouts, pitifully curled up slightly from the cold.
He Mingxiao's large hand enveloped her small feet, and warmth spread rapidly with the intimate contact of their skin. Nan Xian froze on the spot, and when she came to her senses, she was both ashamed and annoyed.
"He Mingxiao! Let me go!"
She wanted to pull her foot back, but there was nowhere to hold onto. She couldn't get any leverage in this position, so she could only grit her teeth and glare at He Mingxiao, angrily thinking that she should just kick this bastard in the face.
Despite her fiery gaze, He Mingxiao calmly warmed her icy feet with his own body heat before putting slippers on her feet.
Nan Xian was finally free. When she saw him stand up, she immediately took a few steps back warily.
Before He Mingxiao could speak, she straightened her face, pointed towards the door, and said, word by word, "Get out!"
He Mingxiao gazed at her quietly for a while, his eyes flashing—though it was quite inappropriate, he had to admit that her current exasperated appearance was exceptionally cute and charming, making him inexplicably feel a little itchy.
Thinking of this, He Mingxiao couldn't help but chuckle a few times.
Seeing his reaction, Nan Xian became even angrier: "What are you laughing at? Get out of here!"
"Sorry, I just couldn't help it." He Mingxiao quickly clenched his fist to his lips and coughed lightly to cover his laughter.
Nan Xian glared at him fiercely and continued pointing to the door.
He Mingxiao knew he couldn't tease her anymore, so he straightened his expression and said, "You'll have nightmares tonight. Having me with you will make you feel better."
Nan Xian assumed he was just making up an excuse to stay, and scoffed coldly, "Do you think I'm a three-year-old? Do you think I'd believe such nonsense?"
He Mingxiao said, "You often dream of a black snake that wants to eat you, right?"
Nan Xian's cold smile vanished instantly, and she was stunned for a moment. "You... how did you know?"
He Mingxiao slowly approached her, his eyes flashing. "During those days in the cave, you talked in your sleep almost every night. I heard you calling for help... You were having nightmares, very scared, wanting to escape but unable to."
“I can’t wake you up, so I can only do this—” he said, gently wrapping his arms around Nan Xian, “holding you and patting your back. Every time I do this, you calm down quickly.”
Nan Xian caught a whiff of his faint shower gel scent and snapped out of her surprise. Upon hearing his words, she frowned deeply and pushed him away.
She looked at him with a scrutinizing gaze, her tone rather cold: "I don't know what you're trying to do. If you're planning to use this to blackmail me, then I'm sorry to disappoint you. I don't care about nightmares or anything like that, and I don't need anyone's help."
She pulled her coat tighter and strode towards the door. "Since you're not leaving, fine, I'll go."
He Mingxiao sighed softly, "Nan Xian, this is the last time."
She stepped across the threshold.
"Let's verify together tonight whether what I just said is true or not. If I've told you even half a lie, I swear I'll never bother you again, okay?"
Nan Xian slowly retracted the foot she had stepped out with, turned around and looked at him.
It has to be said that the conditions proposed by He Mingxiao were indeed tempting to her.
If what he said is true, then it doesn't matter to her. But if it's false, his existence won't affect her dreams at all, and she'll be spared some trouble in the future...
Why not do a deal that you can't lose money on either side?
Nan Xian closed the door. "You promise you'll keep your promise?"
He Mingxiao secretly breathed a sigh of relief, his tone unconsciously carrying a hint of joy, "Of course, if you don't believe me, I can write it down right now."
Nan Xian lay down on the bed and glanced at him indifferently when she heard this. "No need."
He Mingxiao wasn't annoyed by the rebuff; on the contrary, he was quite pleased and quickly took off his clothes.
Nan Xian was startled and sat up. "What are you doing?"
He Mingxiao blinked: "...I'll sleep with you."
She gestured towards the ground with her chin and said irritably, "Dream on! There's a spare blanket in the closet. You can sleep on the floor!"
He looked at the bed, then at the floor, and said with a pitiful expression, "But I'm sick..."
She said expressionlessly, "Then go back to your room and sleep."
He Mingxiao had no choice but to compromise and obediently made a makeshift bed next to her bed.
The room quickly fell silent again.
Nan Xian gradually felt sleepy, and just as she was dozing off, she was suddenly awakened by a sneeze.
"Achoo—" followed by a soft sniffling sound.
She frowned and looked down by the candlelight on the bedside table—
